colts superbowl bound? (1 Viewer)

Super Bowl "bound" is a pretty dumb statement to make about any team this time of year. It's too definitive. Probably just the way I'm reading/interpreting it but I don't like that phrasing.

But a Super Bowl contender, even preseason favorite? Why not? They will be in that category for the majority of Luck's career going forward, don't see why it couldn't start in 2015.

because the pats put 189 points on them in their last 4 meetings and frank gore doesn't play defense

I think NE will miss Revis/Browner more than they realize
They went to three straight AFCC games without either of them. In reading the tea leaves, it appears that they think Butler is a legit starting CB, and if so, then they really need to find one starting worthy CB via the draft, other team's roster cuts, remaining free agents, or by trade. By the end of the season, I doubt they will miss them all that much. Still a 12 win team.

yeah and aa 100% GRONK plus the two corners put them over the top this past season IMO.

The Colts D isnt anything to write home about either, but I think the gap closed based on the departures on D for NE.

The coach and GM aren't seeing eye to eye and the owner has his own issues.

Andrew Luck is good...but he's not that good. Yet.

Andrew Luck is amazing, but he doesn't play every position. I think we are forgetting that this is a Colts team that lost to Denver, New England, Pittsburgh, and Dallas by a combined score of 166 - 85 in the regular season. They beat up on a weak division and schedule, and then defeated Cincy (without their best player) and Denver (with a hobbled Peyton) in the playoffs. Once they played an actual playoff team, they got their doors blown off. Their window for a title is open for as long as Luck is in Indianapolis, but the offensive line and defense are a joke. Jim Irsay and co. are doing a terrible job building that team.

Whoa there, settle down. If you say negative things about the Colts, they stalk you.

(But I'm not arguing too much)

As a Colts :homer: I completely agree with this. I said it last year going into the playoffs that they were paper champions. I saw it not much different than the "Star Wars" offenses under Manning. Again, paper champs. If they don't fix the obvious issues, they will waste Luck's abilities much like they did Peyton's.

Are you really being stalked on here by a Colts fan? That would surprise me except for maybe 1 person.

I actually think they're playing this pretty well for the moment, with the caveat that they have to be ready to shift gears in a year or two.

Right now, the resources don't really exist in FA or the draft that are going to put this team over the top. But with the new media deal coming down the pipeline, the cap is going to mushroom fairly soon, and as long as Luck is still healthy, Indy's going to be a prime destination for anybody looking to go ring hunting as he enters his prime. That time should position them to be power players, since (obviously) Brady and Manning have to be considered year-to-year at this point in their careers (Manning, presumably, on the last such year), and the Seahawks have gone the opposite direction and positioned themselves horribly for the gigantic-cap era. Other power players will doubtlessly emerge, but none so surely as the one team guaranteed to have a perennial All-Pro QB and the cap space to build around him.

It's hard to play the waiting game...and not even necessarily safe in a league where careers get turned upside down in an instant...but I think it's the way the Colts have to play it if they want to make a run during Luck's career. 2016 and beyond is where they need to be setting their sights. 2015 would be nice, but it's a pipe dream.

Everyone else is going to have cap room too.

The Colts were extremely lucky that Manning's injury coincided with Luck becoming available. It gave them a leg up on roster building, but if they don't draft better, pizzatyme is right, they are going to fall into the perennial contender category, and Luck will become Marino or Manning instead of Montana or Brady.

You can't build a team through free agency.
