Commish changed scoring rules after draft... (1 Viewer)

my commish made changes to the scoring on his own without ever asking the league. they are small changes and the reality is the rest of the league are guys that won't care because they are small changes.

are TD passes are 6 pts with 1 pt bonus for 50+ yds but he changed it to 1 pt for 40+yd TD passes and 2 bonus pts for 50+ TD passes. we had also had it set that missed FG are -2 pts up to 39 yds FG but he changes it to 49 yds.

what should I do?

Tell him to change it back immediately, and then find another league if he doesn't.

The ONLY time anything gets changed after the draft is an instance where the league is in 100% agreement to do so. Otherwise, this is a cardinal sin of fantasy sports.

He absolutely knows this, too, and on the rarest of occasions he doesn't ... you don't need to be in this league, anyway.

You do realize what day today is don't you? Finding another league right now in miniscule. At this point, post a message reguarding your feeling on the matter. Obviously you are stuck in the league for the year. Ideally it's a free league and you can just disappear. If it's local and money involved fast action is necessary. While it doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with the changes, the timing is (Ahem) wrong. Stay the course and near the end make sure that you make it very clear that you will be leaving and why, should the rules not be accepted leaguewide.Total idiot commish.

Those are minor changes, I wouldn't care. Sure, it sets a dodgy precedent, but oh well. Quit next year if it bothers you.

I suppose if it really bugged you you could demand he put it to a league vote.

i think it sets an awful precedent... it's not the changes themselves that bother me, it's the principle behind it.... changes aren't made after the draft, PERIOD! the commish is a cool guy and trying to do what he thinks is best but i just flat out disagree and need some back-up. i will be emailing the commish this link so as many responses as possible would be great

It's a fantasy football league, not the birth of your first-born child.

Time means nothing here. It's a screw-job, and you have to decide how much your time, patience and possible frustration is worth.

Bottom line ... you either put up with it or you don't. In the end, if the commish doesn't recant the changes, and you choose to ride out the league, then you pretty much waive your right to bring up the issue again.

It's up to you. Fix it, or don't ... you're the one who has to decide whether or not it's worth the effort to continue.

I agree on the precedent. I think the best thing for you to do to not come across like a jerk is to suggest that the league votes on the new rules and that approval must be unanimous. Make it clear that your problem is with the manner of the changes being made and not the specific rules (Although -2 for missing a 49 yard field goal seems kinda stupid to me)

Those changes aren't serious at all, there not going to change anyones draft board... however; do stick him out for it and tell him that no more changes better be made....

I wouldn't jump out of the league over those changes

Both sides are correct here.

Changing scoring post draft is some serious Mickey Mouse shizz.

But, the changes he made are so minor I can't imagine how it would have made anyone draft any differently.

Is this a $1000+ cutthroat league? Raise hell and make him change it back.

Is this a $20 league with some buddies? Don't lose any sleep over it.

have you considering cutting off his head and placing it on a stick as a warning to other commissioners?

My opinion-by vote only 99.9% of the time, that .1% is when some oops is discoverred that is so glaringly obvious like the commish made a typo setting up the league and enterred 44 points per TD pass instead of 4. After the latter one, I'd still expect an email telling me so.

Agreed here. I would definitely make some waves to make sure it doesn't happen again, when it would likely have more impact--but having similar scoring in my league where the td's are progressive it really won't affect vbd's or scoring noticably except for a really odd circumstance.

NO scoring rules should EVER be changed after drafting, no matter how minor, unless there is a unanimous vote by league members. Commishes should not have that kind of power either.

PERIOD.

Bingo. There's no defence for what the commish is doing, but life's too short to go slingblade on every little problem.

If he had the freedom to do what he wants with the rules after a draft..he can change another rule too then anytime in his mind..stop it before it gets worst. Last year was in a xpertsports league and the commish there changed the rules almost every week in regular season..week 3 he changed it from FCFS to Blind bidding..new owner of site now I know but I'll never go back there again!

before going ape sheet, did you talk to the commish?

did you ask him why the changes were made?

you've made the statement that:

1. he didn't talk to anyone in the league about the changes

2. nobody in the league will really care except you

Is this really true?

In one league, a "friends" league but still has some big money involved, we had to change some scoring after the draft because we configured the web site scoring improperly. It was minor stuff (ex. 2pts per Half Sack was changed to 2pts per Sack... we didn't see the "HALF" portion when we configured the scoring).

My point here is that there may be a lot more to this whole story than you (and we) are aware of.

I have way too many questions to even bother posting without knowing what the commish's answer was for making the changes

TD Ryan is always a voice of reason in a sea overreaction.
