Computer guys, diagnose my problem (1 Viewer)

Fred Flintstone

3 year old ASUS K52F.

Spilled water on it in December, let it dry for a couple days, booted right up and worked great for a day or so, then started to freeze up. Every time after that I could turn it on and it would start up, but after about 10 mins the mouse would start to intermittently freeze up, then everything would just lock up.

I replaced the keyboard because after the water spill, half the keyboard went out. Also replaced the fan as I couldn't hear it run. New fan and I still can't hear it run.

What do you guys think? Motherboard? Bad memory?

Sounds like  a loose BIOS.

Try putting a pillow on your table and smacking it with your computer about as hard as you would with a 7 year old.

I am guessing the new keyboard and fan you bought are probably worth more than the whole computer.

You should get a flash drive, get what you need off it and buy a new computer.

Finding what is wrong with it after water damage will drive you crazy. I know, I dropped a bowl of cereal on mine once. After hours of pulling Fruit Loops out of it and trying to get dried milk off the motherboard, I ended up killing it with a hammer.

Agreed.  You just never know with water damage.  Cut your losses, buy a new laptop, and then add a SquareTrade warranty with accident protection on it.  Way cheaper than extended warranties from the manufacturer.

Cut your losses, buy a new laptop and if it breaks again buy another laptop with the money you saved by not buying an extended warranty.

Ugggggghhhh.

Was really hoping I could fix this for about $100

Turned it on yesterday and it fired right up, but froze up after 10-15 mins again

The problem is you spilled water on your keyboard.

Two options:

1. Time machine

2. New computer
