Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (2 Viewers)

Also added Jason Isbell at the Ryman in Nashville today.   Only got one of the two shows in the pre-sale so hopefully can score the other day during general sale on Friday or its off to the secondary market.

Saw the Motley Crue/Def Leppard/Poison/Joan Jett Stadium Tour last night in DC.

Tickets for this show/tour went on sale way back in 2019 and the show was postponed the past two years.

It was nice to be back in the 1980s for a few hours.

Thumbs up from me.

Did not get to see Motley Crue due to a storm that rolled in right at the end of Def Leppard’s set and paused the show.  Crue apparently played after a two-hour delay but I was gone by then.  So not sure if Vince Neil’s voice has recovered over the past two years (he reportedly sounded pretty bad the past few years)

Joan Jett led off, played all her hits (she had more than I remembered), and sounded pretty good and like the Joan Jett we all remember.

Poison was and had a lot of fun.  Bret Michaels sounded good and the band as a whole sounded the best of the three I saw.  They also played all the hits you know and remember.

Def Leppard was OK but did not sound as good as the last time I saw them in 2018 (could have been a sound mix issue since it can be a challenge switching between multiple bands).  But they are Def Freaking Leppard and have and played such a broad catalog of hits that even at 80% it was a good set.  In fact, the skies opened and heavy rain fell as they played Pour Some Sugar On Me which was kind of surreal.  Only bummer was that the storm pre-emptied Photograph as their closing song.

Even though none of the individual acts are “must-see” for me on their own, the combination was enough to pull me in and I am glad I went.  I heard a ton of classic songs and got to spend 4.5 hours reliving the 1980s (would have been over 6 had the storm not delayed Crue).

Wife and I are off to see Tesla tonight.. I've lost count but guessing that this will be between the 10th to 12th time I've enjoyed rocking out at their concerts. :headbang:

I gave my son tickets for him and his buddies (all 17) to see Lil Wayne, Wiz Kalifa  and WuTang tonight as an end of school year present. I’m sure they’re all going to be high as a kite just from the second hand cloud of smoke hanging above the crowd all night. He doesn’t know I could have scored seats right up front but decided to put them mid way back near the sound board just to keep them back out of the fray a bit.

Lyle Lovett and Chris Isaak are co-headlining a tour.  Before attending their show last night, I wasn't sure how this worked practically, but it turns out they flip a coin before the show and whoever wins gets to choose whether to go first or second.    Lyle lost last night and became the opener.  What a show.  I think @Uruk-Haineeds to add the Large Band as one of his top American bands.  :)

I've seen Lyle many times and have never had less than a spectacular time, but I'd never seen Chris Isaak nor really knew any of his music other than "Wicked Game."  He's a fabulous performer as well, and was decked out in "full Texas" with a blue bedazzled suit.  Each of their sets was fantastic, and they did a few song together as well.  Just a joyous time at a show like this.  (Being held at Chateau Ste. Michelle winery as part of their outdoor summer series doesn't hurt, either.)

Got screwed by the stupid axs mobile site.   I actually had to pull over on the side of the interstate on Friday when tix went on sale b/c i was driving to pick up my daughter from camp.   The site kept showing tix as available but whenever I selected a pair, it would then say they weren't.  I did this about a dozen times before I just gave up.  Posted on reddit and others confirmed having the same problem.  Now tix that were $60 each are now $300 each.  So now I have a big decision to make on whether to just go down for the one show and maybe pick up tix day of for that friday show which is the one I really wanted to see b/c his wife (Amanda Shires) is opening and she almost certainly be playing with his band which just adds a really nice element with her violin and backup vocals.   Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to still go down for the one show and see Nashville and that legendary venue, but still bummed as it should've all came together if not for these crappy ticket providers.  #firstworldproblems.

Jerry Douglas is touring with Bela Fleck's show and played Ravinia (north of Chicago) on Friday, then brought his band up to Milwaukee to play a small venue last night. It was the perfect show for me - just 34 people in attendance including me and my buddy. As expected, his band has jaw-dropping talent across the stage. They took advantage of the situation to put on a very informal, relaxed show that was just what I needed.

Several local venues here have moved to AXS. I also hate it. I love Isbell but personally can't see paying that much. I saw him about 6 months ago and would say it was a very good show, but every time I've seen him my favorite part is when he plays the old DBT songs.

What a great time taking a trip down memory lane.. The majority of the crowd, at least 90%, were us "Old foggies" trying to :headbang: ..

Can't believe how good they still sound after all these years.. They released a new song late last year and are working on a new album..

We saw Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore last night.  The two old friends have a great chemistry on stage together.  Jimmie Dale can still hit the notes at age 77.  Dave looked a bit thinner after his cancer diagnosis in 2020 but still put on a good long show.

Oh, this sounds like a great one!

I saw Jason Isbell about 3 weeks ago. He and his band were great. Sheryl Crow played before him, and she was great too. She sounded like she did back in the 90s. The tickets for the show were $25 dollars on the lawn plus service fees, or 60 something for a reserved seat. It was a small outdoor venue, so you could see well anywhere. The tickets originally were more than $25, but the venue had like a flash sale on several concerts for two days, and we grabbed the tickets then. People who paid a higher price prior to this sale couldn't have been too happy.

Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat playing relatively close. Love Donald "Buck Dharma" Roesser, and Scot Holt a really great guitarist, singer, songwriter is now fronting Foghat. I have seen Scot several times when he was in Buddy Guy's band and have 3 of his cd's. Undecided if going but would def be worth it to see Scot and relive 70's with BOC.

Saw Puscifer last Friday.  I like them (Huge Tool / Maynard fan) but only knew a handful of songs in the set list (most from new album).  Fun show though, lotta stage comedy.  Also never realized how much Carina Rounds backing vocals contribute

just bought tickets to Two Feet for October.  Have only heard like 2 songs a handful of times but seems like something I’d like.   I idea what kind of crowd he draws though and it’s general admission so could be an adventure with the wife (she hates strangers and people in general)

also I’m pretty baked right now…for $25 a ticket though it’s worth it just for a date night

Who’s seen Blackberry Smoke?  Good show?  Coming to Detroit area in September will probably grab some tickets as long as the weather looks good

I've held tickets for 2 years for 2 postponed RATM tours. I'm supposed to go tonight and Zach blows his leg out last night, the second show of the tour. He did finish the show, so not sure if tonight is still on, but these guys can't catch a break. Age Against the Machine.

I saw them last Summer they were very good. It was a Southern Rock Tour with Allman-Betts and Wild Feathers opening, and all the bands together jamming to Southern Rock classics for the last set.

I was supposed to see The Chameleons with The Mission (UK) this September, but they postponed their North American tour to 2023 citing fuel costs and inflation. It’s a first for me. Hopefully this doesn’t become a common occurrence.

Tedeschi Trucks last night.  Great as always.

Highlight was Pasaquan.  It always feels like it's on the verge of segueing into Mountain Jam but never does.

Where did you hear this?  Mrs. Eephus has tickets for a late September show and both the venue and Mark Burgess' website still list The Chameleons on the bill.

Saw The Cult last night in NYC.

Good show - just wished they played more Love & Electric. Too much Sonic Temple imo.

The venue was fantastic. First time I’ve seen a show at Pier 17 and would definitely go back. Incredible views of NYC and the Brooklyn Bridge.

We saw Chicago teenage indie band Horsegirl the other night with LA Psych Pop band Dummy as openers. It was an all ages show and a very young and enthusiastic audience.  Most of the crowd wore the black X mark of underage shame on the backs of their hands.

One of the tradeoffs between seeing veteran performers vs. newcomers is that artists who've been at it for 20-30-40 years have gotten comfortable in the spotlight.  The three 18-19 year olds in Horsegirl were shy and kind of awkward on stage by comparison but they put on a good show encoring with a GBV song.

The band is two singer/guitarists and a drummer.  One of the guitars must have been strung with a bass string or two to play the basslines.  Occasionally the bassline would drop out entirely when the girl played a lead on the other strings.  I don't think I've ever seen that before in a trio.

Saw NKOTBs Mixtape tour last night with Rick Astley, Salt-N-Pepa, and En Vogue.

Not usually the kind of concert I would attend but got tickets for $25 each during Live Nation concert week.

Turned out to be the most fun concert I can recall.  Show started with the guys from Naughty By Nature playing 80s hits and getting the crowd fired up for 45 minutes.  Then a non-stop rotation through the headline acts on multiple stages.

I have never seen a crowd so consistently into and participating in and dancing to the show for nearly four hours straight.  Definitely exceeded whatever expectations I had and was well worth the price even with the mocking that comes with seeing a boy band.

If they’re in your area and you are up for a fun night and trip through time, I’d recommend giving it a shot.

It's been a while since I've been to a "major" show.

Can someone explain what this "Dynamic Pricing" BS is all about?
Looks like ticket prices got up to $5k without fees with this new dynamic pricing model and that's just for mid-floor.   I'd love to see the boss possibly for the final time, but I can't justify paying anywhere near that.  I can see dropping $500 but not for nosebleeds.

I had the "verified fan" code and briefly saw $65.00 nose-bleeds behind the stage for the Tampa show. TBO I'm really not that interested in seeing him play the same old greatest hits set for even that money in those seats.   I did put two nice lowers in the cart that came to to over $9000.00 I quickly yet gently making sure not to hit buy button GTFO of there.

If better seats drop at a reasonable price closer to the show, I'll buy them. If not, no biggie for me at this point. He hasn't released anything I've really liked since "Magic"

I listened to Magic the other day and it holds up pretty well IMO.  That's the last tour where we saw Springsteen (and Danny) live and based on the ticket prices it's looks like it's really going to be the last for me.

Seeing Quiet Riot, Warrant, Winger, and Skid row tonight. I feel like this could be a train wreck but I think it will be enretaining and it was a cheap ticket.

I did not know that Sebastian Bach was no longer with Skid Row so that was a bummer. The replacement wasn't bad but its not what I thought I was going to see. I am glad I went, I was entertained, But I am glad I bought the cheap lawn seats. Crowd watching was almost as fun as the show. Lots of 50 somethings reliving their 20s.
