Could Maroney Be Ready to Breakout? (1 Viewer)

Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reports that Maroney is "back to full health" and that Maroney is "excited to return to action". I really don;t understand BB's aversion to using Maroney more. At the end of last season and thru the playoffs he was clearly the best RB on the team. It seems he's produced quite nicely when healthy.

Could this be his time? Let the wisea## remarks proceed...

This topic has been addressed ad nauseum. Did you really miss all the other threads in the past 2-4 weeks? Really? Yudkin will come in and say the same thing: stay away from Maroney, except as a flex/bye week filler.

Suggestion: check out the search function, it is your friend.

In the auction league I am in, half of the people were talking him, like he was some huge sleeper this year. I chuckled then, and then really chuckled when he ended up going for about 10 times more than I would have paid for him (he went for $25 in an auction where you get $200).

I have a feeling we will being seeing threads like this for the next 5 years."2012, is this the year Maroney finally breaks out?"

Over/Under until Yudkin posts in this thread?
I don't expect him to post - as he has said the same thing over and over. Maroney is not the fantasy answer.
For Yudkins sake I hope Moroney does not become a stud because that will be almost as bad as,draft AD and Taylor to be your weekly starters. I gues he's 50/50 now on Rb's
I didn't really advocate starting both AD and CT, only that it could be an option. IIRC, I said ADP would get the lion's share of the workload and for folks in big (like 16 team) leagues it made sense to consider CT. I advocated playing Priest and LJ several years ago.As for Maroney, I still don't see him as a great fantasy option for the many reasons outlined in the past. Certainly things could change on the Pats offense where in theory he could be more valuable (like injuries to two of the other backs and a vertical passing attack). As things stand now, I'd pass on Maroney and would roster him (as others mentioned) as flex or bye week fill in.

I remember that. I remember taking LJ largely based on your advice, and winning a league because of it. And I remember a lot of people thanking you for your posts during the preseason. Yudkin shares inside info when he doesn't have to, he's not prone to hyperbole, and he tends to make a small number of strong predictions that generally work out. Really one of the top notch guys here.

Since it's been at least a week since I posted some Maroney numbers, here's where we stand with him now:

In 35 career games played (regular and post season), Maroney has:

- Missed 6 games.

- 15 games with 10 or more fantasy points (0 PPR).

- Fewer than 10 carries 10 times.

- 15 carries 14 times.

- 20 carries 4 times.

- More than 2 receptions twice.

- No TD scored in 21 games.

- 6 games with 100 rushing yards.

Conclude from that whatever you want . . .

Belichick is the new Shanahan. And in an ironic twist of fate, Shanahan is the new Belichick.

The main difference being that the Broncos actually had a running game.

I don't think this subject gets old for a player like Maroney. He's a classic example of the type of player that shows great flashes for fans and FF'ers. The major problem standing in his way seems to be opportunity. For whatever reason that we are never made aware of, the NE coaching staff just don't like to use him. Many of us have given some great excuses and compelling reasons why we think they hold him back, but even when the stars seem aligned...Belichick and his staff still don't use him as he is their true RB. Of course, he doesn't help himself either when he keeps getting hampering type injures that don't seem to go away.

So, NO he is not ready to breakout because he has to play to breakout.

Although they play/played different positions Maroney reminds me of Michael Westbrook. Westbrook looked the part in a uniform, had a lot of potential, showed flashes and every year (regardless of the numbers the previous year) there were FF owners who were convinced he was going to blow up and were willing to roll the dice. Yet when it was all said and done he did not live up to those expectations. Right now I see Maroney traveling down that same path. He's still young but the more I watch him the less impressed I am with him (and there was a time I was very high on him).

I was thinking Deshaun Foster. Can have flashes of brilliance, followed by complete disappearance, sprinkled with random injuries.

I'm predicting a nice game from Maroney this weekend vs the '9ers - perhaps 80/1. As soon as BB and Nolan are shaking hands at midfield, trade Maroney as fast as you can.

i would take that and cement his spot in my lineup this week. my choices are ronnie brown, lm, ricky williams and felix jones ... 2 of the 4 ... yuck.

What's your assesment of him, not necessarily from a fantasy football perspective but as a RB? Is Belicheck justifed in not putting his trust in him? I watch him and see loads of potential. Once he stopped dancing around last season (which he didn't do much of the season before) good things started happening for him again. While somewhat fragile he has a nice combo of speed and power.I can't even start to try and figure of Belicheck, but I guess I have to defer to him as far as what he thinks is best for the team.
