cowboys might trade martellus bennet and tashard choice (1 Viewer)

Why not?

Looking at potential trades

October, 14, 2011

By Calvin Watkins

IRVING -- The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday.

The most recent major deal the Cowboys made, sending three picks, including a first-rounder for Roy Williams in 2008, might go down as one of the worst in team history.

Running back Tashard Choice or tight end Martellus Bennett could be dealt. Both players are in the last year of their contracts and while Bennett has underachieved, Choice isn't getting the playing time he desires.

Demarco Murray was drafted this past spring to compete with Choice and while that hasn't happened on a consistent basis after four weeks, a trade could facilitate that.

"There's always a question with me," Choice said. "I just handle my job. I'm here with the Cowboys."

Choice said he wants to remain with the Cowboys but understands the business side of the NFL where something could change. It appears the Cowboys want to keep Bennett around to backup Jason Witten and compete with John Phillips for snaps.

Choice might be expendable, if the Cowboys can get the right price for him. The New York Jets got a conditional seventh-round pick for receiver Derek Mason, who is a veteran player.

What would they get for Choice with 1,117 career yards in four seasons?

"I'm doing my thing," Choice said. "I don't control nothing. I'm just ready to play."

Lol agreed, nobody wants Bennett. Choice is an average back, I don't understand what we'd get.
So, ya don't think it'll bring back a "Herschel" type treasure trove of picks? :P If Choice does get moved, then Tanner becomes an interesting player going forward ... Murray would be first in line after Felix, but the buzz on Tanner has been pretty high.

I haven't followed the Boys too closely over the last year and half or so, but I thought there was a lot of excitment around Bennett. Why did he fall out of favor?

Lack of maturity, drops and untimely penalties. He is a hell of a blocker though.

might as well get rid of a RB, since we dont run the ball much. Even though Choice has made some big mistakes, I still like him as pretty solid runner when he gets his opps.

as for Martellus, he's just never progressed. all the potential in the world, just too many mistakes.

I think Bennett is well worth a late third or fourth rounder. He has more potential than a TE that will be selected then in the NFL draft. His shenanigans would worry me if not the proper coach.

I still think he can be special, has the ability to be, he just needs a disciplinarian type coach to be all over him from day 1. Some of his crud could be because he is sick of not starting, playing and doesn't want to be a backup forever. I'm not in anyway in favor of poor attitudes like this, but this trade could erase that if true.

Choice to the TB makes since as the Bucs have not added a RB and seem thin at tailback
I don't think so. Choice isn't better than what they have and I don't see whom they'd want to cut in order to land Choice. For a young team, this is cutting a player for a roster spot and giving up a pick in the trade. I wouldn't do it.
