I'd love to see him opposite Andre Johnson in Houston. What a beast of a combo!
Lots of good players brought up in this thread, but I want to second Austin in particular because he doesn't seem to have the same kind of awareness about him as some of the others because of his small school pedigree.Simmonjm is correct in pointing out that Austin had moved ahead of Crayton on the depth chart, and also that there is more opportunity in Dallas than you might think at first glance because TO's days are numbered (and quite frankly, Roy Williams looks like a bust).More important than opportunity and current depth chart status is Austin's talent and physical ability. He's always had a great size/speed combo, that's how he got his foot in the door even though he went to Monmouth. Through the first two years of his career, his outstanding athleticism and straight line speed for someone who goes about 6'3" 215 was apparent on kick returns, but what little chance he had to be a receiver showed a lack of natural ball skills and polish in his routes and execution. This year that all changed. Austin looked like a natural receiver bringing the ball in, losing none of his speed and agility (which would happen if he was thinking instead of just doing). His routes were sharp and his timing was on point. I believe he turned the corner, and the coaching staff seemed to agree when they promoted him. He's a real threat to take any catch the distance (just as he did as a kick returner), and he's still just learning how to use his natural size advantage.Even though Austin looks like a future starting WR (and a good one at that), he's still very much under the radar in the FF community. That will change in 2009, don't let him sit on your WW.Miles Austin for the Cowboys should start producing. Had it not been for injuries he would have had better stats. He has already taken the WR #3 role from Crayton and if the Dallas offense can get back on track in 2009 Austin would be a great target. In 2007 Crayton as the #3 WR had something like 700 yards and 6 tds not bad at all for a guy who can be had on the WW. Also there is speculation that if Garrett returns to Dallas as OC it would signify the end for TO meaning Austin would take over as the #2 WR which would really increase his value, again this is just speculation though.
I'd push all my chips into the middle of the table and bet that this doesn't happen.Love him or hate him T.O. plays for his place in history. He's not going to walk away from adding on numbers to his Hall of Fame career. That's also why he'll never sign with New England. As he views Moss as his only competition to being the 2nd greatest statistical WR of All Time.My personal Top 3 Landing Spots for T.O.:1. Jags - Garrard will finally get his big play WR.2. Chargers - I see the Chargers as making a big 1 year push for the SB. Usually teams have a 1 year Honeymoon with T.O.3. Vikes/Bears - Either of these teams would jump to the head of their Division with Owens in the fold.Honorable Mention: Ravens, Broncos (1 year replacement for a suspended Marshall) and Titans.Edited to add: These are places I see him having the most impact. Not necessarily the most plausible places.is it possible that TO actually quits the game and walks into the sunset quietly? ... doubtful. i think it goes against his instincts to just quit, but at this point in his career, I just don't see him joining ANOTHER franchise, learn their verbage, obey(or not) coach's rules, get along w/ team mates, etc.unless the right situation comes up (Indy, NE, SD, NYG), he's not going to a Cincy or some other rebuilding team.my guess is that he retires ...
As he was in S.F. once Rice was gone. And in Baltimore during his cup of coffee stopover, and in Philly, and in Dallas.Honestly as a GMEN fan i would welcome Owens. He knows they are a great team without him and one infraction he will be cut.If he comes to NY he would be on best behavior
Put me down in the TO to NYG camp, makes a lot of sense, and TC can whip around anyone including TO...they controlled Plax behind the scenes...TO doesn't run around night clubs as much and while he is a loudmouth you rarely hear about him causing a stir out in public. They put the language in the contract about fines and how they are handled, don't give too much guaranteed money, Giants become the front runner to be the 3rd team this decade with multiple SB wins.that is some compelling logic, & i agree with all the points... the one you left out is coughlin is a stern disciplinarian & TO is a loose cannon, so in that respect, not exactly a match made in heaven... also, do they have the cap room, after signing canty & boley... wherever he goes it will by definition almost have to be incentive-laden... maybe he will be OK with that, since he is a confident (bordering on cocky) dude...* coughlin came aboard in 2004 & plaxico a year later... & though i think he had a rep for being flaky with PIT, not sure if he was as known AT THAT TIME for being the malcontent & troublemaker he has evolved into? also, not sure that was coughlin's call in 2005 (was accorsi there than, & did he call the shots in the war room... not sure how much input, if any, coughlin had then... giants homers, chime in please?)...i really liked your point 3 above, not sure if EBF was the first to mention WAS... it would also of course satisfy the criteria of sticking it to PHI & DAL twice a year EACH... though they just signed haynesworth to one of the biggest contracts in league history...Three words - New. York. Giants.1. Plaxico is unlikely to escape legal / league issues.2. TO will want to play for a contender.3. TO will now have a chance to "stick it" to both Dallas and Philly twice a year for each.4. TO goes to an NFC team that is poised for a playoff run.5. New York City - media capital of the United States and the NFL. It makes too much sense, and look for Drew Rosenhaus to be talking with the Giants by Friday.
The problem with your theory is that teams had to game plan for TO. At this point people will stack the line to prevent the run and make Romo beat them. Romo has a habit of not being able to get the job done. So this will cost the Cowboys a playoff spot.. again. Romo is not the QB that the media has made him out to be and it will be seen this year.If you get rid of your best WR it does not make you a better team. Plus if you believe that TO was the only one that had issues with Romo I think your wrong. Remember it was not just TO that went to the Garrett about the Witten/Romo issue. 'I am in the minority here but I actually think this move will help the offense. (not necessarily in total points or yards but in consistency) The struggles last year seemed to be driven from Owens making noise to get the ball more, them trying to force the ball to him more and having miscues because of it. I expect the offense to be able to game plan how they want to and not feel like they have to get Owens the ball. They should be able to be more consistent week in and week out.
I've heard this from some fans before, but I can't place when or where. Be careful what you wish for...Put me down in the TO to NYG camp, makes a lot of sense, and TC can whip around anyone including TO...they controlled Plax behind the scenes...TO doesn't run around night clubs as much and while he is a loudmouth you rarely hear about him causing a stir out in public. Well, he doesn't play the 3-4 D. And he's a free agent, Green Bay doesn't know how to sign those. When he signed in Dallas the fans, almost with one voice proclaimed how it would be different there, and that anyone who said otherwise was a hater. Now I find no Dallas fans who even remember tht they had once said so.Predictable really, and not wholly unique to Dallas fans.I love that of all the speculation so far in this thread that I have seen no speculation that he might latch on with my favorite team.
Sorry to jump on you, but this is the 3rd post in the first 2 pages commenting that the Vikes are a logical landing spot. Just stop this nonsense. Remember the circumstances surrounding Owens' dispute with Philly, and the OC he would not speak to... Childress. Minnesota is the LEAST likely landing spot for Owens.I think he ends up in Indy or Minnesota.
Teams did have to game plan for TO but Dallas wasn't and isn't a one trick pony (although that is what TO wanted) Witten is still a stud and if teams crowd the line he will and has consistently proven that he can get open and deliver when needed. Big playmaker for the Cowboys. I agree Romo hasn't delivered in the playoffs but he has proven in the regular season he is more than capable of getting the job done. Unfortunately he has to be able to change that because it ultimately doesnt do anything for the team getting it done in the regular season and not the playoffs. He is capable of doing it though and several really good qb's struggled for a few years in the playoffs before they turned it around so I am not worried about that yet. (but I am starting to...)TO demanded the ball, IMO he was the one who made the other WR's complain about Witten/Romo. I saw no evidence of Roy Williams ever complaining about getting the ball while in Detroit. (could be a bad thing he didnt) I am not sure what to make of Roy Williams at this point but I do believe he will still get teams focusing on him. He may not be a stud like TO but I believe he will be solid enough to make teams aware of him. If not by name only. The problem with your theory is that teams had to game plan for TO. At this point people will stack the line to prevent the run and make Romo beat them. Romo has a habit of not being able to get the job done. So this will cost the Cowboys a playoff spot.. again. I doubt TO wants to be the 2nd best WR on the team.I'd love to see him opposite Andre Johnson in Houston. What a beast of a combo!
The TO whining about Romo favoring Witten was bad enough, but even after the fallout from that, his decision to have this stupid reality show .
OH MAN! There went my must see TV for the summer...hopefully the show follows T.O....Also, I don't see anyway he ends up on a disciplined team like MIA, a rebuilding team, or a recently-stung team like NYG.no way. not after the last few years. they want clean, no headache players and coaches. see matt ryan.I could see him going to Atlanta. Isn't that where he's from? He's not going to a place with a bad QB, so I doubt he would want to go to Washington or Minny.
Vikings could definitely use a WR of Owens ability, but Childress holds grudges and Owens wouldn't like playing on a run first team where he's only going to be able to drop so many passes thanks to the limited amount of passes coming his way. The Vikings could update their offensive plan around having Berrian/Owens/Rice/ Shiancoe, but it's just not likely given what went down in Philly.Minnesota: Owens clashed repeatedly with Vikings coach Brad Childress when the pair were in Philadelphia. According to an oft-repeated but possibly apocryphal story, Owens told Childress not to speak to him during his final season with the Eagles. Childress responded by going out of his way to say "Hi," to Owens every day. It would be a stunner if the pair reunited.

After TO and his agent missed the deadline to submit his FA paperwork, SF still held the right to trade him. He then seemed to agree in principle to be traded to Balitimore. When he realized he could get more money from PHI, he balked. He was actually called by Ozzie and Billick in what was going to be a 'welcome to the Ravens' call right as the trade was to be announced, and he said 'talk to my agent.' He and his agent filed a grievance about the NFL not informing everyone of the changed date for filing FA paperwork, and the NFL granted him his Free Agency...so he was free to go to PHI.He would not be welcome in BAL...by the owners, staff or team.Didn't T.O. insult Baltimore in some way the last time he was a FA? I wonder if Ray Ray would be in his corner again.
There are a lot of successful teams out there who are highly successful without a stud WR1. Pittsburgh doesnt has a TO type WR and they won the superbowl. Neither does Tenn, Jets, Dophins, Ravens and they were all playoff teams. Is is all about creating mismatches with your players in your game plan. With TO you are forced to put him in your game plan to keep him happy, with out him, you create your plan how you want to and exploit certain match ups.The problem with your theory is that teams had to game plan for TO. At this point people will stack the line to prevent the run and make Romo beat them. Romo has a habit of not being able to get the job done. So this will cost the Cowboys a playoff spot.. again. I'm betting on New York Giants, Oakland, New England, Minnesota or Seattle as his next stop.
Just WOW.There are probably only a couple of landing spots for him, that include crazy money and idiots that think he'll help...OAK, MIN come to mind.
Childress testifies that, as contrasted with the first year of their relationship, Owens was incommunicative. From the first time they met in training camp that second year, he says, he was met “with nothing, no response, just kind of a straight-ahead stare.? Childress continued to greet the Player for some seven or eight nights until Owens, at one point, said: “Why do you talk to me? I don’t talk to you. You don’t talk to me. There’s no reason for you to talk to me."
Yes. He would also be elected Mayor of DC.If TO signed in Washington, would he wear Art Monk's #81?
Alabama. Went to college on the Georgia boarder. Lives in Atlanta now. Has begged the Falcons before. Atlanta is set at WR and no way Artie Blank puts up with his stuff..I could see him going to Atlanta. Isn't that where he's from? He's not going to a place with a bad QB, so I doubt he would want to go to Washington or Minny.
Yea, always a great move to just dump your best offensive player. It's going to be grand seeing them tank this year. Their WR core now completely sucks. The WR they should have cut should have been Williams whose a total bust and can't even pick up their system.Hyperbole. He is a big ### problem who is no longer a problem. Good riddance.I know exactly what I'm talking about...he was in the bottom 5 of the Cowboys' problems. An excellent and necessary move by Dallas. I don't think you understand what you're talking about.Horrible move by the Cowboys
Do you think evaluating talent is the same thing as evaluating locker room "chemistry"?I heard Mort say that Matt Jones (WR for the Jags)was the most explosive player he had ever seen in the draft and that any team that passed on him in the first round would live to regret it. Let's just say that the man can be prone to exaggeration.i heard Mort say a while back that the Cowboys locker room was the most dis-functional locker room he has ever seen is his career covering the NFL.I know exactly what I'm talking about...he was in the bottom 5 of the Cowboys' problems. An excellent and necessary move by Dallas. I don't think you understand what you're talking about.Horrible move by the Cowboys
This would be my dark horse candidate.2. Chargers - I see the Chargers as making a big 1 year push for the SB. Usually teams have a 1 year Honeymoon with T.O.
He was on his best behavior in Dallas until last year.Honestly as a GMEN fan i would welcome Owens. He knows they are a great team without him and one infraction he will be cut.If he comes to NY he would be on best behavior
Someone call the Jets and tell them they made the playoffs. There are a lot of successful teams out there who are highly successful without a stud WR1. He was always in the news while Parcells was coach, including the overdose issue. He wasn't causing turmoil with the players, (that got any publicity that I remember anyway) but he was still an issue. He was on his best behavior in Dallas until last year.Honestly as a GMEN fan i would welcome Owens. He knows they are a great team without him and one infraction he will be cut.If he comes to NY he would be on best behavior
No way with Vincent Jackson finally emergingThis would be my dark horse candidate.2. Chargers - I see the Chargers as making a big 1 year push for the SB. Usually teams have a 1 year Honeymoon with T.O.
As a Giants fan, I just threw up in my mouth a little.Three words - New. York. Giants.
1. Plaxico is unlikely to escape legal / league issues.
2. TO will want to play for a contender.
3. TO will now have a chance to "stick it" to both Dallas and Philly twice a year for each.
4. TO goes to an NFC team that is poised for a playoff run.
5. New York City - media capital of the United States and the NFL.
It makes too much sense, and look for Drew Rosenhaus to be talking with the Giants by Friday.
Edit to add: Due to cap concerns and Coughlin's style, I see the Redskins as a likelier landing spot. You were close .. I fixed it.Owens is being made the scape goat for the dissapointing season , brought on by injuries to the Secondary and the lack of prodution from the backup QB postion (which was not hard to predict going into the season.)The problem wasn't TO it was GM Jerry Jones.
wow, just wowHahahahhaa![]()
