Crabtree has foot injury that could sideline him weeks (1 Viewer)

According to local reporter Matt Barrows, Michael Crabtree has a foot injury that will keep him off the field for 4-6 weeks. This is most likely the same injury that kept him from running routes during Camp Alex, and signifies the 3rd year in a row where Crabtree has missed significant training camp/preseason work.

As a niners fan, I'm calling shenanigans on Crabtree, and am ready to call him a bust. He has never performed as well as expected during the season, and has had two injuries that conveniently make him ineligible for preseason, but end right before the season starts. Now, if he was playing well, I wouldn't care at all, but his performance on the field has been dreadful. I think I read a stat where over half the INTs thrown by 49er QBs last year were directed at Crabtree. This means that there's serious communication issues THAT COULD BE FIXED DURING TRAINING CAMP...

Anyway, for fantasy purposes, I'd think this torpedoes his value even more, since he's missing all of training camp once again and will have no time to actually get used to the new offense.

Worst pick I ever made. He's like a cautionary tale to me now.

<little voice in head> Don't reach for a Crabtree here. <little voice in head>

Hang onto him... could be huge next year when they get Luck.
I doubt SF sniffs anywhere near the draft slot of #1.
The niners have lost a lot of starters this offseason and have some big holes to fill at center and in the secondary. If Gore has a long holdout, and the offense is reduced to Alex Smith, Vernon Davis, and Josh Morgan, I wouldn't have high hopes for many scores. The defense had very serious holes last year, and none of those have been addressed this year unless Aldon Smith turns into DeMarcus Ware, and in fact the defense may have gotten worse by losing Franklin at NT, and possibly losing Clements and Goldson. Add in a brand new coaching staff and a shortened offseason, and you have the possibility of a bottom rung team. Of course, a few key FA signings and a Gore extension could make the picture rosier, but we'll see.

I feel as though he has become unfairly scrutinized by everyone. Crabtree certainly didn't have a breakout year last year but did increase his touchdowns and improved, albeit minutely, his ypr. The fact that he's a prima donna has not changed since before he was drafted, so our current perspective of him shouldn't be altered by that fact either. His reoccurring foot injury seems to be an unfortunate circumstance that would certainly slow anyone's progression in their second year in the NFL. Not to mention Alex Smith has so far been less than adequate of a passer. Crabtree may not say or do the right things as a teammate or player but that doesn't mean he can't produce at an elite level, though I'm not claiming he ever will. However, I'm still convinced his problems thus far are factors he has no control over: Alex Smith, injury, and (assumingly?) a run-heavy offense.

Crabtree will have problems with that foot all season if he's having problems still.

Josh Morgan, possible new #1 WR this year. Some sleeper potential here.

#49ers aren't messing around with Crabtree injured. Not only pursued Ochocinco, also now in on Malcom Floyd. Via @MiaoccoCSN

Uhh, no. Morgan is pretty much why I don't listen to beat writers talking about training camp. His stock has been seriously bolstered by one or two local guys with fairly large twitter followings who talked about how good he looks in TC every year, only to see him exposed as an average NFL talent at best. I thought the niners would have been actively looking for a decent second WR without news of Crabtree's injury, but they better get real serious real fast about getting someone else in as they are a WR wasteland after Crabtree who was no great shakes anyway.

Not to mention how the rest of the NFC West seems to be improving while the 9ers are looking stagnant. Besides, I could see see see Harbaugh going all Ditka in the draft for Luck even if they don't pick first.

I know Harbaugh doesn't have a track record in the NFL, but I would say this move would be WAY out of character for him.

Sorry I missed the paste

Reportedly has shed walking boot

Michael Crabtree has kept a low profile since reporting for 49ers training camp on July 28 and immediately going on the PUP list. Neither coach Jim Harbaugh nor Crabtree have discussed the left foot injury that has kept the 49ers' third-year wideout from practicing for the first three weeks of camp. But there were encouraging signs Monday, as Crabtree was seen walking briskly from the locker room to the parking lot and back without an orthopedic boot on his left foot. It's the first time Crabtree has been spotted wearing two athletic shoes -- and no orthopedic boot this summer. (CSN Bay Area)

I'm done with this guy. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. I'm out. Of course I did the same with Mcfadden. Drafted him as a rookie and took a chance in year 2. So of course last year he blows up now that I'm done with him.

buy low!!!
You can buy sandwhich bags for a low price too but at the end of the day the value is still that of a sandwhich bag. When this kid was coming out, I went on record as saying that I thought his talent was one of the best 4 players I had a good feeling about as they came out. The other three were Randy Moss, Larry Fitz, and Calvin Johnson. That is how much high hope I had for him.But his attitude, IMO, has put him "almost" in the Charles Rogers tier. When he was doing the holdout stuff I was cringing. I thought this is starting off bad and its not going to work out the way I thought. Then he came in and really, given the lack of practice time, etc he had, flashed some signs. I was feeling better. But then he's had these injuries and reports that he is upset about this and not on board with that and openly criticizing everyone under the sun except the man he sees in the mirror. Even if he is 100% correct, its just not professional. It makes me question his maturity, his drive, his "want" to do things and do things the right way and put the work in. And that leads me to believe he will never do it; never be "it".A common vein with truly great WRs is that the great ones are by and large no nonsense, professionals. You never hear disturbances from the Calvins, Ajs, Fitzs, Waynes, Rices, Holts, Whites....all these guys past and present that were great.Even Randy Moss and T.O. When they came in, they just showed up and did their jobs. Randy Moss had a chip on his shoulder and determination. T.O. wasn't mouthy in the early years and even when he became "T.O.", he still worked hard. he said some things in the later years, but he never let ALL these area go to pot like crabtree does. I guess I'm saying at this point I just think I was wrong; not based on the skill my eyes could see but the intangibles that you can't see without looking harder and I think at this point I didn't look hard enough. I do not think Crabtree will ever ascend to live up to his expectations and be a perenially top 10 talent. At best, he may rise up and have an Ocho cinco-like run of a really good year or two but his character seems to be that he "IS" a character and that will ultimately hold him down.

Ocho had a bit more than a really good year or two...

Took Crabtree around 200th overall (15th round of a 14 teamer).

I don't have a lot of faith in him, but at his going rate, he's worth the flier.

Maybe this is hope springing eternal, but what has Crabtree done wrong since he arrived at Niners camp? The foot is an issue, but he'll reportedly be ready to practice in 2-3 weeks.

Crabtree seems like the perfect type of WR for Harbaughs' offense. It wouldn't surprise me if he had a much better year than many expect.

I guess I'm interested to see how he acts with this coaching staff. We really have zero idea right now about how that will play out.

Crabtree is definitely a good buy low....you can get him really late in redrafts right now. And guess what, you can always dump him to the WW after the first quarter of the year without losing anything in return. Low risk, high reward...

Absolutely. I would much rather draft Crabtree late than Braylon Edwards. I know how much Edwards sucks. With Crabtree, there is still potential for him to achieve his ceiling. We have seen Edwards' ceiling...that one fluke year where he had the Dwayne-Bowe-like-TD-% is not going to happen again.

Niners report 'oversight' after injured Crabtree catches passes

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers notified the NFL on Monday that wide receiver Michael Crabtree caught a couple dozen passes during warm-ups while still on the physically unable to perform list.

Team spokesman Bob Lange said the 49ers immediately reported the "oversight" to the league office after it happened Monday afternoon. It's unclear if the team will be penalized.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league was investigating the situation.

Crabtree, the 10th overall pick in 2009 NFL Draft out of Texas Tech, has missed his third consecutive preseason, this time while nursing a left foot injury.

First-year 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Sunday he hopes to have the receiver back in an official capacity this week, although Crabtree wasn't in uniform when he caught throws from quarterback Alex Smith at the start of Monday's practice before general manager Trent Baalke intervened and had him stop participating and then leave the area.

"We are looking into it. We appreciate Trent Baalke contacting our office to report what happened," Aiello said in an e-mail. "Our understanding is that it occurred during warm-ups and that Michael Crabtree did not participate in practice."

Crabtree hurt his foot during workouts led by Smith in June during the NFL lockout. He missed the 2010 preseason with a neck injury one year after a 71-day contract stalemate as a rookie.

Crabtree, 23, hasn't talked to reporters so far this preseason.

Crabtree, who has long had the reputation of being a diva, posted 55 catches for 741 yards and six touchdowns last season, when San Francisco went 6-10. He was angrily confronted by tight end Vernon Davis during an early September practice last year, and then-coach Mike Singletary had to step between them.
