Crawl Space Encapsulation (1 Viewer)

Terminix has been trying to sell me on this for two years. Anyone have insight on this? Think it would cost 5K plus.

Crawlspace suck. They are dirty and moldy and buggy.

How big is yours? I know someone who did this themselves. Their space wasn't that big, and there was decent clearance Dien there so they didn't have to be all on their belly and ####. But he said it wasn't bad. Took a day and cost a few hundred bucks. Just need some heavy duty vinyl tarp #### and some screws I think.

1100 sqft I believe.

Mine isn't exactly "encapsulated" as well as a professional would do but I throw some 6 mil plastic down and it cut down greatly on issues I inherited when I bought the place. Fortunately, the "crawl" space is a walk in for the most part. Only a bit of it did I have to crawl. Unfortunately, it's huge and took a lot of plastic and time.

We encapsulated both attic and crawl space. I am short on details about the process itself, but I have seen a noticeable decrease in our energy consumption.

In the Chicago burbs, and we had the crawlspace done with a drainage system and then sealed with concrete. We then had them spray foam insulation the foundation walls up onto the sill plates and into the joists a bit. Made a huge difference for us in terms of energy consumption, smells and insect/rodents. These did ours.

Probably a waste of $$$ unless you have draining issues on the property.
My experience says otherwise. Heating bills went down, musty smell is gone and not more mice or tons of spiders and other insects. Well worth the 3k.

What about the foam insulation sprayed under the house? Seems like a better solution, but probably more expensive.
