every team that looked at Duante said how they were amazed he was available as a FA. He's clearly better than a few starting qbs in the league. Lets hope he and CJ can "get their roll on".

So why is he still a FA?

Been blackballed for not having a lawyer/agent. In pittsburgs case it was because a player of relatively equal worth (Byron Leftwich) was availlable. in MIA's case they had Pennington fall in their laps. In houstons case they decided to stick with sage Rosenfels as a back up.

But I think it's pretty easy to argue he's better for a team like DET than orlovsky. He was never "great" with MINN, but he can move, and can throw a good deep ball ( CJ is most like moss of any young receiver, and that combo worked pretty well)

Calvin's numbers should improve just as much as Chris Chambers' did when Daunte signed on with Miami!
But chambers is not similar to CJ. Just both good receivers. Culp knows how to throw a few passes decently. The short jump ball, the deep fly. Think of the number of those balls that CJ gets in an orlovsky led offense vs a Culppeper led Offense. I hope they sign him as a three league CJ owner.

I still don't understand why the Lions aren't giving Stanton a shot, clearly Culpepper isn't the guy. Maybe Stanton isn't but give the kid a shot, save some money. This year is already lost, so roll with Stanton or Orlovsky and see what you have, then draft Stafford next year.

I think he's been blackballed for having teeny little hands that like to drop footballs at random times, and not having been decent for about 5 years.Give Orlovsky and/Stanton the rock, see if you have anything in them. Losing Kitna for the year, and going into the offseaosn without knowing what you have in the young arms would be a mistake, IMO.

Actually, they're talking to him about being the head coach. That way, when they fire Marinelli, they will have fulfilled the minority requirement.

So why is he still a FA?
Because he's his own agent. That can't be good for contract negotiations.

don't they have Henson too? What's he there for?
trying out for one of the cheerleader spots next year
IIRC he was some great prospect but also real raw too so it was going to be a while. Didn't Dallas give up on him? Baseball pitcher too right?Well, Orlovsky isn't impressing me and I figure they should at least trot Henson out onto the field and see what he can do. Give Calvin Johnson a catcher's mitt for a week, at least that'd be entertaining.

 Having said that, I like Culpepper as the bridge plan to Stanton's development with some upside to looking good with Megatron.

Did nt they let him leave Detroit without a contract ...

I still dont think he will play this season , Detroit probably told him Stanton was the future and he did nt like it.

He wants a place where he will start right away and next season , and next season in Detroit it will be Stanton.

3B prospect who spent some time in the minor leagues with the Yankees. He wasn't considered to be raw at QB - in fact he started over Tomb Brady for the most part at Michigan and there was alot of talk that he would have been the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft if he didn't sign with the Yankees.Since he proved he stunk at baseball he's been with at least three NFL teams (Dallas, Minnesota and Detroit) proving his not very good at football either.

Henson never started in front of Tom Brady. Brady was the starter (and clearly the better QB) and Henson was the backup. During his sophomore year, Henson did rotate in for a few series each game because he was such a highly regarded recruit, but he did not start a game until Brady had graduated.

So is he worth picking up at this point in any leagues? How long before he gets a chance to start this year if he gets a contract worked out?

I think he's been "blackballed" because it appears he wants to still get paid like this is 2003.I think it's time to just stick to the T.G. Lee commericials, Daunte. (If they're even still calling, that is.)

This wouldn't affect CJ at all. You can't expect a QB to come to a team mid-season and learn the playbook in a week. He'd be nothing more than a backup QB in case Orlovsky/Stanton get hurt or choke.
