I thought for sure they wold cut him since they have no cap money and cutting foster would actually net them like 3 mill(or something like that.) but maybe they dont think they could get a good compliment to D-Will in FA.There was a lot of talk about him being cut, but apparently that is not the case now. Is there a chance he get released after June 1?
Carolina restructured Mike Rucker, Dan Morgan, and several other players to get about 3mil under the cap. I don't think we'll see Foster going anywhere just yet.I thought for sure they wold cut him since they have no cap money and cutting foster would actually net them like 3 mill(or something like that.) but maybe they dont think they could get a good compliment to D-Will in FA.There was a lot of talk about him being cut, but apparently that is not the case now. It's possible - they could also push the cap hit to next year by waiting to June - but I think they'll likely keep himI have seen nothing on this. Maybe they are keeping Foster in 07?
Cutting him means they'll have to deal with an opening on their injury list each week, which might be too much of headache to deal with.

Nah...they're bringing Morgan back so this is a non-issue.Cutting him means they'll have to deal with an opening on their injury list each week, which might be too much of headache to deal with.

I don't think he truly won the job yet either. IMO Maroney didn't but the Pats gave it to him, same with White in Tennessee but....Sorry to burst all you D-Will owners bubbles...it's gonna be a RBBC again in Carolina. D-Will will have to wait another year.
Do you still really believe this Warpig? After DeShaun redid his contract, zone blocking implemented to benefit DWill, and DWill performed much better than Foster in the games he actually got more than 10 carries...you don't think DWill can get 250+ carries this season?Sorry to burst all you D-Will owners bubbles...it's gonna be a RBBC again in Carolina. David YudkinFoster gets THE SAME amount of money either way. In fact, it HELPS his cause because they now gave him way more money UP FRONT as a bonus then if it were paid in weekly salary checks. Again, he did not restrutcure AT A REDUCED RATE, which is what happens for people that will be going from a starter to a backup.Case in point. The Patriots wanted to acquire Randy Moss. They couldn't fit his salary under the salary cap. Tom Brady "restructured" his contract by converting deferred money and salary into a bonus to make salary cap space to sign Moss. Does that mean Brady is going to become a backup because he "renegotiated?"Foster freed up some 2007 cap space for the Panthers. That's it. But now if the Panthers want to release him they would take a much bigger cap hit.Face it, Foster's role does not change by him simply changing the accounting of his salary/bonus.

At the worst for Foster I can see it being more like a 55 - 45% split favoring Foster. I probably wouldn't want either in a redraft. But D-Will is worth holding onto in a dynasty. It'll be interesting to see what happens next year if Fox is fired too. I think it will also be bad news if they still plan on using D-Will as a return man.Do you still really believe this Warpig? Not at all. Steve Smith was returner and he started at WR. Not very common for starting offensive guys to do this, but obviously CAR doesn't mind.At the worst for Foster I can see it being more like a 55 - 45% split favoring Foster. Not really basing my assumption on much other than gut feeling and how they ran it last year. Could D-Will end up with the majority of carries? Sure. I just don't think so.I see him getting 30 - 40% of the carries and the majority of 3rd down duties. I think he'll improve on last years numbers just slightly. Nothing to draw too much attention. We'll have to see how that O-line performs. If it's better than it was last year, maybe Foster looks better running behind it so they decide to just ride him a little more since he's the veteran. It's all assumption at this point.Pretty uncommon for RBs. Anyway, how many times do I have to ask to ignore the pointless herring and address the question?
good post & i agree with this...that said, a conclusion that can be derived from this (foster sticking around a while) and not be inconsistent with the known data is deangelo seizes the starting job as soon as this season... though foster probably/almost certainly will be on the team (we can infer from the well thought out breakdowns above on cap & contract grounds), his presence in & of itself doesn't need in any way to suggest that he will get the majority of carries, or even half...its not like he is making above average starter bank...Football wise, it makes no sense for Carolina to cut Foster. RB depth is a must in the NFL. This is just wishful thinking and hoping by DeAngelo Williams owners.
One would think, but this is Pantherland. Fox has always been loyal to the vets to the point of leaving the more talented player on the second team.good post & i agree with this...that said, a conclusion that can be derived from this (foster sticking around a while) and not be inconsistent with the known data is deangelo seizes the starting job as soon as this season... though foster probably/almost certainly will be on the team (we can infer from the well thought out breakdowns above on cap & contract grounds), his presence in & of itself doesn't need in any way to suggest that he will get the majority of carries, or even half...its not like he is making above average starter bank...Football wise, it makes no sense for Carolina to cut Foster.
