Williams on the block?
The Eagles have had one consistent problem this year. It's not Andy Reid, Michael Vick or any offensive player. Yes, the offense has made mistakes, but they have also generally scored enough to at least have an inverted record right now.
It's also not the Eagles secondary. Sure, they have underperformed, but they aren't what's made the Eagles 1-4.
No, the Eagles are 1-4 because they have been abysmal at stopping the run. Every team has gained more than 100 yards rushing against Philadelphia, and all but one team has scored a rushing touchdown against them. This is an alarming trend that needs to stop if the Eagles are going to have any chance at the playoffs.
Fortunately for the Eagles and their fans, help may be on the way.

Rich Smith reports that the Eagles and Broncos are in negotiations for a trade that would bring linebacker D.J. Williams to Philadelphia.

Smith also reported that the Williams would likely cost Philadelphia a mid-round draft pick.
Williams has been a reliable tackler throughout his career. Philadelphia will go nowhere if they can't bring some more fight to their linebacking unit and run defense. Williams isn't the only answer, but he's a step in the right direction.
The Eagles are walking a very fine line right now. Yes, they are a team perfectly capable of a long winning streak. If they solidify the run defense, it wouldn't completely surprise me to see them finish 10-6, or even better.
But as it stands right now, that will never happen.
If teams know they can run against the Eagles, Philly will allow too many big plays and too many easy points.
The secondary will eventually learn the system; the pass rush is already strong.
Again, Williams isn't the answer to all of Philadelphia's problems—while solid, the former first-round pick out of Miami is a little past his prime at this point.
But he's the kind of player that the Eagles must go after, and it can't stop with him.
Update: Smith now tweets the Denver Broncos are looking for a second-round pick in exchange for Williams.
