D-Jax in Denver (1 Viewer)

Madden Freak
I know conventional wisdom would suggest that with his injury history and last year's terrible season in San Franciso, D-Jax is done.

However, in Denver, he does have an enormous opportunity.

Javon Walker is gone. Brandon Marshall severed his tendons in his arm. The other guys are Brandon Stokley and Keary Colbert.

Shanahan's offense in Denver can result in really big numbers for WRs. Obviously Brandon Marshall really produced last year but it has been productive historically too - remember the days when Rod Smith or Ed McCaffrey would catch 100 balls?

Let's not forget that before last year in SF he was considered a top WR. Obviously he had a horrible year but, well, it was SF.

I think he is a very low risk high reward type guy to pick up now - in many dynasty leagues he is on waivers and he will be undrafted in many other leagues.

I sure hope so! Last time he played in a west coast offense, he was a top 5 WR (in results)... if he is half as good as he was 2 years ago, he will be a tremendous value.

you are right as in low risk high reward. My honest opinion though, D Jax is toast. Slow, no hands and he is an Ashole in and out of the clubhouse. Marshall and Scheff will probably lead that team in receptions.

I thought he was going to be good value last year, but I think it's more and more clear why Seattle was willing to trade him to a divisional rival. It seems like they saw the writing on the wall that his days were well in the past.

2004: 87 rec 1,199 yds, 7 TD

2005: Only played in 6 games

2006: 63 rec, 956 yds, 10 TD...missed the last 4 games

2007: 46 rec, 497 yds, and 3 TD...had Alex Smith throwing him the ball and a new OC in SF that did not seem to be able to take what Norv Turner left behind and do anything with it. I don't judge DJax on his 1 year in SF.

DJax must be 35 years old the way you all talk about him...He's actually 29 years old and won't turn 30 until December.I guess I'm an optimist but it sure seems like people that are down on him got burnt last season adn now want to poo poo him to the entire board. The Shark will see upside of DJax in Denver...he won't be drafted high and he can be had for little in Dynasty right now. Have players at RB or WR ever had a terrific year in Denver and not be able to follow thru the next season? 1 hit wonders if you will?

Quick trivia...Deion Branch, Jerry Porter, Ashlie Lelie...which WR has had 1,000 yds in a season?

:goodposting:
Amazing to think that at one time Lelie was commonly ranked in the top 20 dynasty wise ...Now that was a quick fall from grace.

the name of the game here is opportunity. The Broncos want DJax to bounce back in a big way, and he will get plenty of chances in that offense. We know Stokley is the perfect slot receiver, Royal is a rookie, and the rest have little chance of being the #2. A great low risk pick.

I'd say downside is 25 450 0 and upside is 55 850 3. Most likely he will fall somewhere in between those projections imho.

You are correct!!! And we all know what a fine career he's gone on to.

I think the point was that even Lelie was able to have a decent season in the Denver offense and so could Darrell Jackson.Really just depends on if he is recovered from injury. The opportunity is there.

What's your opinion on Scheffler? Based on the tsail end of last season and his chemistry with Cutler, I'm expecting him to potentially jump into the Top 5-8 range.

Correct once again
Jackson could indeed rebound, but I don't see the Lelie comparison as compelling. When Lelie had his one 1K season in 2004, the Broncos' offense was peaking (ranked 5th in yards, 9th in points) The offense line was still dominant, Plummer threw for over 4000 yards and 27 TDs, Droughns had his big year rushing the ball, and Rod Smith was still putting up decent numbers. Plus, there was no bona fide TE threat to take away catches (Putzier led with 36 receptions).

Fast forward four years, and we have a old rebuilding OL, very questionable running game, an emerging stud WR that has great chemstry with Cutler (ignoring the injury for now) and a very good pass-catching TE in Scheffler.

I could certainly see Jackson outperforming his ADP (which wouldn't take much in stats), but given these factors I think the likelihood of a 1K season is extremely remote.

i actually came into this thread ready to poo poo jackson, but now that i look at things, he could very well turn out to be a decent #3. everything hinges on the health of marshall of course. if marshall plays the season, however, jackson becomes a deep reserve.

eta quick stats:

based on games he has STARTED, he has averaged 74 catches, 1057 yards, and 7.6 TDs per 16 games. If you remove the SFO year, it becomes 74/1085/7.9...barely moving the average upward. if you include the games he missed due to injury, he would average 66/964/7

I have an idea, let's remove all his bad games, not just the ones in San Fran. I figure he'll end up with career averages of 85/1200/9. Looks like a WR2 to me!

Frankly, He's going to be the 5th, at best 4th option in that offense.

Marshall

One of the RB's

Scheffler

Stokley

then D Jax.

Sorry.

You really think he won't have more opps than Stokley...take out 1 magical year in Indy and you don't have numbers anywhere close to DJax...sorry

I have no reason to think he wouldnt be a solid 3-4th WR. If he is really healthy he could be a #2. If he comes in focused he will be fine.SF is not a good place to go for numbers, thats for sure. Good thing is he will be there really late so he is worth a flyer.
