D.Patten NO Sleeper (1 Viewer)

Rounders

Footballguy
I was going through the play by plays last night to check on McAllister (I like to do this for games that I do not get a chance to see) and I noticed that Patten had 7 targets in the 1st half last night. His final numbers were 6 for 75 yards, 1 TD.

Thoughts?

i have said in other threads about the NO WR's: outside of Colston, the other WR's are pretty interchangeable. Brees will through to whoever is open and able to make a play. the matchups will dictate the value game to game. the only value patten, copper, moore, etc have right now is for insurance.

How much value does Henderson even have?

Is he worth keeping as my 5th WR.

Or am I better off picking up a guy like James Jones (if Driver is out for a few games)?

I would keep Henderson - although the hammy should be monitored - before Jones. My rationale for this that Favre is being asked to no pass as much; James is still 3rd, at best, behind Driver and Jennings (yes, I know he's been MIA this preseason but still...); and he's still a largely unknown rookie WR. Henderson is in a contract year. He's a 3rd year WR. He's playing in a potentially prolific offense. As a #5 WR on a roster, he's tremendous value.

Yeah...I don't see him or Jones getting much action on my team anyway. We only have to play 2 WRs and he is behind CJ, Javon, Glenn, and Vincent Jackson.

Always thought he had more ability than what his numbers were on the field during the regular season. He's a guy I've drafted deep in leagues in the past but not this year. He'd have to make a believer out of me before I draft him again. It's good that you check what you did though.......obviously it means a lot more during the regular season.

Two schools of thought here.

1. Preseason and this week and especially next week there will be guys that rack 100 yds that you are not familiar with and end up getting cut on Monday Morning...it's sort of a way for the coaches to thank the guys for making it thru camp by allowing them to play and also not risk the injury to their stars...I'm sure many of you know this already.

2. And this is what we really need to focus on. Patten is the No.3 WR on this team. What I mean by that is Patten will likely play the slot and is not really battling Henderson or Copper for playing time right now. Much the way Engram is the No.3 WR in Seattle and Burleson and Hackett are duking it out for the No.2 slot. It isn't a matter of the depth charts but more about the position. In 3 WR sets and formations you will likely see Patten on the field or Reggie Bush possibly in that slot with Deuce in the backfield. Patten has value right now.

Add up Henderson, Horn and Copper's numbers from last season...throw in part of Reggie Bush's as well and there are a lot of balls to go around. And what happens when Colston takes a Michael Clayton step backwards this season? Think it won't happen? It could...and and and Meachem at this point is almost getting a redshirt from the coaches. He will have no impact on their offense this season which is disappointing.

In a best ball league Patten has some value and will have a good game probably once every 3-5 weeks but as far as having to start him every week...not so much.

Staying on the topic of NO WRs....

(Rotoworld) The New Orleans Times-Picayune believes 2007 could be a "redshirt year" for first-round pick Robert Meachem.Impact: With the way Lance Moore, David Patten, and Terrance Copper are playing behind starters Devery Henderson and Marques Colston, Meachem isn't needed. The Tennessee product has looked lost throughout the preseason.

Thank you for affirming my post above yours. I was sure someone would post "Do you have a link to that redshirt thing"...muchos gracias!

Lucky for him that he 'cashed in' like he said he was going to do back in January. B-U-S-T.

FWIW, I believe the broadcasters last nigh said Cooper was taking the place of Colston and Patten was taking the place of Henderson. If that's the case, and Henderson's hammy continues to give him problems, I think we will see Patten take his spot. If what I heard last night holds any water.

Also, those thinking of the L. Moore hype. He has been the PR for the team in the preseason. Last night the first PR went to R. Bush. Moore was in on the 2nd PR and fumbled, but recovered.

I don't know who's working in the slot because Colston and Henderson has never played in the game together with a 3rd WR that I can recall. FWIW, L. Moore was the slot last night and had a catch with the 1st team on the 1st or 2nd drive.

The truth is, whoever is playing on the feild is valueable. Brees will start to be considered the next T. Brady passing the ball around to the open WR. The difference? Brees has better weapons than Brady in the past, and NE's defense has been much better than the Saints currently. If that defense improves, Brees' numbers should take a hit along with his WRs.

I'm not so sure the WR3 on the Saints has as much value as you think. Adding Johnson at TE might have real impact. Brees didn't have any help at the position last year. Johnson might be the weapon the offense needed more rather than another speedy WR. Based on last year's play, I happen to think the #3 WR on the team is really all about match ups. I don't think the Saints run a conventional offense because the versatility a player like Reggie allows them to have. Payton has shown himself to be pretty creative as a play caller.

IMO, didn't seem like Johnson had as big as a role as the TEs had last year. Once again it's only preseason.
