D/ST on CBS - Onside Kick recovery? (1 Viewer)

What is the ruling / opinion here? I always assumed this was treated like fumble recovery and should be credited to team defense/spt. GB D/SPT recovered an onside kick last night but CBS gave no credit. board thoughts?

I don't think there is a fantasy football service on the planet that gives the D/ST credit for onside kick recoveries.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't get points for it; just that it's not something that is tracked.

Nobody fumbled the ball on that play.

If a punt hits someone on the receiving team and the kicking team recovers that gets credit as a fumble recovery. In an onside kick scenario I can't see it.

Seriously?Why?

Who fumbled? The ball was kicked.

I don't understand why you would have ever assumed this.
In the world of fantasy football, D/STs are given points for a wide variety of things besides fumble recoveries (i.e., sacks, blocked kicks, tackles, etc.)So why not give them points for onside kick recoveries? It's more impressive than a sack, IMO.
I didn't say leagues shouldn't award points for an onside kick recovery. But an onside kick recovery isn't a fumble recovery, just like sacks, blocked kicks, tackles, etc. aren't fumble recoveries.

A kickoff is a live ball - there's no need for the other team to fumble in order for the kicking team to recover. I don't think that your assumption is valid, sorry.

You'd need a separate addition to the rules to cover this. They're not treated like turnovers, because they're not... it's a live ball available to either team. Neither team has possession to lose, so, not a turnover.

This. It should be 3 pts as not only is it a turnover, it's a special teams TO. I could even see making it 4-6 pts depending on the feelings of my leaguemates. I just assumed it was accounted for in dST scoring like punk/blocked kicks are.
