Pats this year have one of the best WR corps EVER....
Moss #1 pick, future HOF
Stallworth #1 pick
Welker - great possession WR
I was trying to think of comparisons - and while you might find comparable #1 and #2 WRs, and maybe a solid TE that compares to Watson, those teams didn't have a #3 like Welker. He really is the X-factor for the Pats.
Better than any WR corps the Colts ever had, I think better than the Run-n-shoot Oilers, the Redskins trio, I just can't think of an offensive assembly that matches the Pats team this year.
Harrison(#1 pick), Wayne (#1 pick), Stokely (great possession/slot wr if matched with a good QB), Dallas Clark (#! pick with freakish measurables like Watson) and Pollard are on equal footing. The 2001 Rams had Holt, Bruce and Faulk who were complimented by Proehl, Az Hakin and Conwell. Not as deep, but Marshall Faulk get the Edge over his cousin, with 800+ receiving yards and 9 receiving td's.
I would actually take Moss over Harrison, he's taller, faster, can jump higher, is equal in hands, just doesn't run as good of routes. Stallworth and Wayne are equals - in fact, I believe had Stallworth not had the hamstring problems, people would be singing his praises as a STUD WR, just look what he's done when 100% healthy...
Welker is better than Stokely - Stokely had what, one good season??
Pollard has been proven to be a product of Manning after floating around the league, and Clark is more an H-Back than TE (nevermind Brady also has Brady a former #1 pick)
I would agree that Bruce and Holt measure up well against Moss and Stallworth - in fact I'd give the Rams the edge there - but Welker is better than Az because he has hands and can run a crossing route. Proehl was sure handed, but slow, fell down every time he caught the ball - ok not every time. Conwell is nowhere near Watson.
I really looked around at the great offensive squads, I just don't see anyone as good as the Pats receiving weapons... I was thinking maybe the Vikes Moss' rookie year, or his second season, pretty close...
