Daunte Culpepper Is Retiring (1 Viewer)

Is it really retiring when nobody wants to hire you?

No link yet but I'm guessing it will be arriving soon.

still kind of baffles me, this guy had talent....I realize much of it was lobbing NERF balls to Moss and letting him make a play, but he had some monster years.....can it really be over that quickly.......I know he has had some injuries, but you would think he could come back......it must be bad if he can't even get a look in KC, Chicago, etc.....as a KC fan, I have always wondered why he didn't get a chance there......

Yea it's a mystery why teams hold onto clearly horrible QBs like Croyle, Orton and Grossman. I don't think Daunte has much left but he could be better than those guys. That said, if he was dead set on only being a starter then it's easy to see why he wasn't signed. The Packers offered him a contract to be the backup to Rodgers and he turned them down. So he had at least one chance to get a job this season and didn't want it. That's on him.

In a nutshell, if Moss had single coverage he was the option, chuck it up. When everyone was covered he'd chuck it up to Moss. Without Moss, decisions had to be made. He couldn't do it right or quickly without loads of time with any consistency. He would then get to the line with the deer in headlights look.

Also, I think the guy still limps when he runs. The injury was the end for him.

everyone seems to say this about C-Pep... but I recall Moss going down and him lighting it up in the same fashion... only with Nate Burleson hauling in the recs. And didn't he have a 5 TD game just last year?I really wish he would've accepted the Packers' offer.

I think that this crybaby crap is a perfect example of why nobody wants to sign him. The other letter he wrote on PFT, where he said that Pittsburgh's offer of the veteran minimum was significantly below market value, was similarly deluded. Does he even know what market value means?

He had some amazing years before his knee injury, let's not just say it was Randy Moss...Brady won 3 SB befroe Moss arrived...CPepp had like 40 TD one year, that wasn't all Randy Moss.i know where you're coming from and I agree he had a big impact.

I know some people will miss him, but you'll still have his weekly open e-mails to the league to read.

also, I hear he might start a mailing list.

I suppose he averaged out the salaries of guys like Trent Green, Billy Volek, Brad Johnson and other back up vets and expected something like that. Not totally unreasonable, IMO.

Our take:

Things move pretty fast around here. That's why it's called the Not For Long league. Whatever's next for Daunte in his life, we wish him the best of luck.

Didn't Culpepper get a huge contract extension in Minnesota before the injuries? He should have plenty of "bank" to retire.....unless he spent it all "makin it rain" on that party boat!

As a Vikings fan, I will say thanks for the good times, we had a few. We complained about him a lot but looking back now we haven't had a decent QB since he was injured. One of my favorite Daunte plays ever was when Warren Sapp recovered a fumble and was chugging towards the end zone. Daunte hauled ### from across the field and rode Sapp down like a cowboy wrestles a steer. Hilarious.

He made some amazing plays with his arm and his feet. Turnovers kept him from being elite though. I don't miss his 2 fumbles a game.

I have a feeling he was blackballed by teams for not having an agent. Maybe no one wanted to deal with him outside the normal realms of negotiation. I do feel Daunte could still play.

the whole demanding a raise when he was hurt was so stupid, I honestly think we would still be stuck with him if he hadn't done that.

"Since I was not given a fair chance to come in and compete for a job, I would rather move on and win in other arenas of life," Culpepper said

Maybe he can go back to boating on the great lakes..

He's not the only player to have represented himself. He just didn't have a realistic view of what he needed to do to get back on the field. He wanted a shot at starting... no team was going to give him that.

:lmao: I'd think any team would love to deal with the player who represents himself since he would "have a fool for a client" as the saying goes.

His other problems consist of the fact that he actually thinks he's good and this embarrassing display:

um whats embarrasing about scoring touchdowns?

wouldn't being blackballed entail actually NOT getting offers...?

maybe I just don't know what that means.

edit:

if the dude was smart, he would've had a camera following him around the whole time he went door to door and turned it into a reality show.

David Carr got a 1 M to back up Eli. I would trust Culpepper more as a backup than Carr.

It would probably exposed his fumbling problems: Daunte fumbles for his keys, Daunte fumbles for his ballpoint, etc.

Commish Roger Goodell to Daunte, after Daunte strong-armed him into trying to get a team owner to give him a starting job:

"Peace out, Dante!"

Who cares! Overrated from day 1, when he didn't have enormous talent around him he could never produce, and he had the worst touchdown dance (that dopey forarm spinning) in history.

Buh bye! Don't let the door hit your ### on the way out.

This guy spends many of nights at the Hard Rock Casino outside Miami, playing poker. Maybe we will see him winning the WSOP next year.

His knee was down before he crossed the goal line. Roll on Daunte.....roll on.

He's better than all three scrubs known as the Bears QB's....he obviously still has something left in the tank, and this retirement will not last for long unless he truly has been blackballed for some reason or another...assuming he still wants to play, of course. That video was hilarious, if that was DC's last hurrah, he truly got his roll on one last time...
