Daunte Culpepper Is Retiring (1 Viewer)

GET AN AGENT YOU BIG DUMMY!
This is the real reason why he is not employed. He did not have an advocate to dispel negative rumors started by agents of other free agent QBs (e.g. demanding a shot at starting in Pittsburgh). It's a shame that he is leaving particularly with schlubs starters like Orton, Croyle, Ryan, Flacco, O'Sullivan and possibly Campbell in the league. Looking at some of the backup QBs out there it is even more shocking that Daunte is unsigned. How can the Cowboys honestly pin their hopes on Brad Johnson if something happens to Romo?

It's sad in a way. He lived in a world of unreality, refusing to follow the advice of others, and turning down an offer than might have given him a chance to play again. He had an overinflated view of his own value.

Sin transit gloria mundi.
Sic transit gloria mundi. Thus passes the glory of the world.

Sin would roughly translate to something like "the glory of the world does not pass".

I'm sorry what are we talking about in here?

still kind of baffles me, this guy had talent....I realize much of it was lobbing NERF balls to Moss and letting him make a play, but he had some monster years.....can it really be over that quickly.......I know he has had some injuries, but you would think he could come back......it must be bad if he can't even get a look in KC, Chicago, etc.....as a KC fan, I have always wondered why he didn't get a chance there......
Yea it's a mystery why teams hold onto clearly horrible QBs like Croyle, Orton and Grossman. I don't think Daunte has much left but he could be better than those guys. That said, if he was dead set on only being a starter then it's easy to see why he wasn't signed. The Packers offered him a contract to be the backup to Rodgers and he turned them down. So he had at least one chance to get a job this season and didn't want it. That's on him.
;) Yeah, why didn't the Seahawks release Hasselback when he was benched for Trent Dilfer or why didn't the Chargers just release Brees after he stunk and they drafted Rivers with their 1st pick. Because never have QBs won anything after being journeymen for a little while right? (Think Rich Gannon)

I understand Culpepper hasn't been the same since he hurt his knee. I understand that making himself his own agent effectively blackballed him from many teams. I get that he may not have the best personality and could even be considered a locker room problem when he's put into the situation of backing up someone he doesn't feel is better.

ALL THAT SAID, this is the NFL we're talking about.

This is the place where Chris Henry is re-signed by the very same team he disappointed so many times the coach swore him off

This is the place where Ricky Williams can literally walk out on his team the eve of a season, then fail to stay clean on two occasions, and STILL be welcomed back BY THE SAME TEAM to compete for touches

This is the league where Adam Jones can be traded for by a championship caliber team during a suspension and then be given a major role

You mean to tell me there's no place at the table in that league for Daunte Culpepper? Baffling.
