DB statistics? (1 Viewer)

I was interested if there is a free website out there that has 2007 statistics for CBs that show how many passes were thrown their way and how many catches they allowed.

I remembering reading an article about Nnamdi Asomugha and how over the 1st 14 games of the season he was only thrown to 27 times and only allowed 9 catches.

Where the heck did they get that stat from and how do other DBs stack up?

Football Outsiders chart this data manually, but it's not available until all of the game charting is done (I think they're through week 13 or 14 right now), and I don't think they make it available for free. If you buy Pro Football Prospectus this summer it'll have all of that data in it.

:bow:I don't think any of the game charting data is available for free unfortunately. I'd love to get my eyes on all the defensive stuff they have. Only a fraction of it makes it into PFP. As SSOG says, though, the number of targets against will be in there as will each defender's (including LB, CB and S) success rate.At one point, KC Joyner (the Football Scientist) had that data in his yearly book as well. Both are published in the summer.

The Boston Herald posted stats on Ellis Hobbs that I posted before:

***Opposing teams threw at cornerback Ellis Hobbs 106 times, ranking him 13th in the NFL. Seattle’s Marcus Trufant led the league, as he was thrown at 133 times.

· *** Receivers Hobbs covered scored four touchdowns. There were 44 defensive backs in the league that gave up more touchdowns than Hobbs, including teammate Asante Samuel, who surrrendered six. Denver’s Dre’ Bly and New Orleans’ Jason David led the league by giving up 10 touchdowns.

· *** Of the 106 passes thrown at Hobbs, receivers caught 58 of those passes, making quarterbacks successful 54.7 percent of the time when throwing at the Pats’ defender. Among the defenders that were thrown on at least 30 times this season, 156 NFL defenders were less successful than Hobbs (the receivers they covered caught a higher percentage of passes). As a comparison with Samuel, receivers caught the ball 53.2 percent of the time (50-94).
