DE - James Hall (1 Viewer)

Chaos Commish

Footballguy
Oddly my best friend's name is James Hall.

Anyway, this guy is 29 years old. He was undrafted. Seems like a typical journeyman player a team would like to replace with someone better if they could. Is that right? I'm no Lions guy.

But, in the last four games of last season he closed with 24 solos, 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. Thems some good numbers for a DL. He had a bizarre 10 solo game in that run.

My drafting pattern (redrafts) has historically been patient at LB, let the others spend those high draft picks, but make up ground on the DL and with the DBs. Things didn't break that way this year as I grabbed Peterson and Urlacher on a corner where I just couldn't pass on them. While I was well aware of Hall's numbers last year, I know little about the player. He did look good recording a sack against Shaffer-- blew right by the Browns new franchise LT. I'm not asking if I should draft him. I already did. he worked nicely around my bye week problems, he fell 20+ rounds. I had Abraham and squat.

So, what can I expect? Any information would be appreciated.

I'm expecting top twenty numbers. He's a good two-way end and enough of a pass rush that he should do well in the Tampa-2. He's hard to project all season, though, because the Lions don't really have another solid pass rush threat and since the scheme leaves the defensive ends alone to generate much of the pressure he may be subject to a bunch of double teams if he looks good early and Kalimba Edwards, etal flop.I don't know what to expect for your best friend.

Thanks Jene.

Think Sims and a healthy Bailey might help keep the double teams off him?

Nope. Unless you're Lovie Smith (and maybe Perry Fewell in Buf -- that remains to be seen), the LBs have little to do with the pass rush in this scheme. What would really help (besides Edwards finally living up to a full year's potential) would be the Shaun's staying healthy and one proving to be a season-long success as a pass rushing UT.

Hopefully Hall was the 2nd DL you selected. I think Hall is a solid #2. If he's your anchor you may have some problems.

I have Abraham and Kearse.
You're solid then. I've always considered Hall the perfect "backup" DL to have on your team (for those who start 2 each week).
 Hall will probably continue to be underrated, but is a damn fine value in most leagues. Doesn't the scheme rely on the front 4 to apply the pressure? Hall should be good for 40-50 tackles plus a handful of sacks, not a bad backup or #2.
