Deadwood (2 Viewers)

Just finished the end of season 3, and I thought the show was magnificent with the exception of the ending. I don't know if they were under the impression that there was going to be a season 4, but I found the conclusion to be completely unsatisfying. It certainly keeps the series at arms length of the TV pantheon, and I would likely urge anyone that is thinking about getting into the show to go in with the knowledge that the ending will not provide what the first 2.5 seasons promise. You will very likely feel cheated given the time you invest. However, what's good is VERY good, and it'd be of strong interest to those that watch 'Justified' to see Olyphant grow into the badass law man role.
They were under the impression there would season 4 and finished season 3 with that understanding. Depending on who you believe either HBO thought is was too expensive or the creator David Milch lost interest. That it could finish its last season and close it properly has earned my eternal damnation for both parties.
You can spend the rest of your life pining the fact that you were dumped or you can have sweet memories of banging the hottest chick in town for three years.

Exactly. I am now a fan of the short-lived series Firefly. My first thought was, "How could they cancel this cool series?!" But after a bit, my final thought was, "How did this weird show ever make it on TV to begin with?"

Firefly got a wonderful feature length movie to tie up some of the story lines after the series was cancelled. That made the early cancellation easier to stomach.

A Deadwood TV movie could have served a similar purpose but obviously the money was not right.

More like banging the hottest chick without ever climaxing.

7 episodes in. Total snoozer for first 3-4, I guess 10 years ago this could have been must see TV. For some reason on demand didn't have ep5, the one after Hickok's murder, thanks Comcast. Things start to come together in eps 6&7. I'm in for the long haul now. Swearengen vs Bullock is setting up nice. Calamity Jane is best character so far. Blake Lively? is looking very :homer: . Didn't realize there were so many ####s and ####s and ##########s thrown around back then.

After getting into Deadwood and just finishing Boardwalk Empire I really think I was born in the wrong century. Living in an era where it was acceptable to drink all day, bang whores whenever, and strangle/stab/shoot/beat to a pulp with a rock/etc anyone who acted like a fool seems like a world I want to be a part of.

Did they not have cigarettes in 1876?

I mean Kristen Bell. For some reason I can never remember her name when I see her, even though she is very easy on the eyes. Also, I did notice Trixie smoking a cig in the next episode. Need to quit watching these shows high as a kite, my comprehension might improve a bit.

It's too bad this show didn't get a couple more seasons. At least I get to catch up on three more seasons of Battlestar Galactica.

I'm glad I didn't watch this when it was on, losing Al Swearanger to the cost of doing period dramas would have pissed me off.

Great show.

Just finished watching this series for the first time (over the last month) - it's free on Amazon prime by the way.

What a great series. Top 10 all time. I don't rank my top 10 as they're all different - how do you compare Deadwood to Star Trek to Flight Of The Conchords, etc?

But this show's dialogue really sets it apart as unlike anything I've ever seen. Too bad they couldn't finish this over the originally planned time frame. The season 3 episodes following Dan's battle with the Captain really suffered as a result. I'm sure they were going somewhere interesting with the actor troop, Mrs. Bullock, Steve and the General, Hearst's Aunty and Joanie Stubbs, but they ran out of time and the result was jumbled for them. I liked all of the characters regardless.

Oh well, at least they finally got rid of Leon.

They should do an Al/Wu spin off. Hayng Dai!

In speaking about the show with some others, I got the implication that Milch basically has brief periods of productivity surrounded by a mostly drug/alcohol induced torpor/craziness, and that that had as much to do with why the show got cancelled as anything else.

It's weird that McShane didn't go on to bigger and better stuff from this show. It was kinda sad to see him in a goofy role in this last Hercules movie with Dwayne Johnson - that's what he's been reduced to?

I love watching the British Open on ESPN and hearing him do the intro to every hour of coverage.

I believe the real Al Swearingen (spelled this way and Swearengen, and Swearinger (census at the time)) is buried at the Mahaska County Farm Cemetery (aka County Home Cemetery) in Leighton, IA, near Oskaloosa, IA.. No photos of his grave are known and some believe no one knows where he is really buried. He was found dead on November 15 1904 on a Suburban street in Denver, CO. He was killed by blunt force trauma to the head (likely murdered). Contrary to what some believe that he was killed hopping a freight train, that simply isn't true.

A couple of months before Al was killed, his twin brother Lemeul was shot 5 times at the family home in Oskaloosa. Perhaps Al was the real target. Lemeul survived the attack. Al left Oskaloosa for Denver right about the time his brother was shot.

I don't live too far from Oskaloosa, IA and sometimes make my way to the area. I wouldn't mind searching for Al's grave at the Mahaska County Farm Cemeter and take a picture but my guess is that this cemetery is private.

He's going to be on Game of Thrones next season

Yup- finally watched this on Amazon Prime as well. Loved it and it is sad it had such a short run.

McShane and Olyphant are awesome.

I dont know if a 2 hour movie would work. Deadwood was always a slow burn requiring 10 hours to tell. A movie wouldnt allow much of the wonderful dialogue and give short thrift to the big cast.
