Democratic Debate (2 Viewers)

They always ask about deportation but never about strengthening the border.

Sanders reminds me so much of McGovern
McGovern was special - honesty, integrity a true love of this country trying to make it better every day he went to work - a top 10 worst moment in our history to be beaten by the anti-american Nixon.

But I'll let HST explain it even better

If the current polls are reliable... Nixon will be re-elected by a huge majority of Americans who feel he is not only more honest and more trustworthy than George McGovern, but also more likely to end the war in Vietnam. The polls also indicate that Nixon will get a comfortable majority of the Youth Vote. And that he might carry all fifty states... This may be the year when we finally come face to face with ourselves; finally just lay back and say it — that we are really just a nation of 220 million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns, and no qualms at all about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable. The tragedy of all this is that George McGovern, for all his mistakes... understands what a fantastic monument to all the best instincts of the human race this country might have been, if we could have kept it out of the hands of greedy little hustlers like Richard Nixon. McGovern made some stupid mistakes, but in context they seem almost frivolous compared to the things Richard Nixon does every day of his life, on purpose... Jesus! Where will it end? How low do you have to stoop in this country to be President?

Good answer by Sanders, I don't like how many Democrats tout how great immigration is by citing how cheap they work for and they don't receive the social security benefits that they put into. If good humanity is part your reasoning then, that's a conflicting message.

Sorry, but every single one of Bernie's solutions involves taxing the top 1.5%. Just exactly how much money does he think they have? How many ways can we tax them?

That's why he'd be schlonged in the general election by Trump or any Republican.
The only shot Bernie would have IMO is against Ted Cruz. Cruz is such an unlikable guy that Bernie could possibly win. I think Bernie vs Cruz and you'd get Bloomberg in, and that's the only way he would jump in.
Bernie would do worse than even McGovern because he's also a-religious. I don't think he's been to synagogue for decades. America is not ready for an honest atheist.

Thom Hartman just did a sanders/mcgovern comparison tonight. His main point was that the youth of the mcgovern voter didn't go to a very high age. people around age 30 didn't have the same sense of betrayal by their government that people do today.

Wasn't Mcgovern's VP pick undergoing shock therapy a big deal?

Eitherway, polls show Sanders doing very well in a general election, so any comparison as far as Bernie not being electable just isn't based in reality.

Did he say that? Because that's just simply not true. Young people were being drafted and sent to fight in a war they didn't believe in, and they were scared of dying. You bet they felt betrayed.
