Democratic Debate (1 Viewer)

Hillary gets way too tactical when talking about foreign policy. It's like she has no high level beliefs.
This seems like a pretty fundamental difference between them. Bernie finished his answer to one of the foreign policy questions with "and that's how you get peace in the world." I don't think Hillary has ever had "peace in the world" as a motivation for her foreign policy, or even really considered it as a goal.

I fell asleep for most of this debate and tuned out much of the rest. I felt the last debate was much more interesting. But I am also not the intended audience so take my opinion for what it is worth...not much?
You would have loved the amnesty talk. Right in your wheelhouse!
I guess. But there is nothing they are going to say that is going to change my opinion about them and I suspect that there really isn't enough of a distinction between their two positions to impact how the voters will see them in the primaries.

Do you think Hillary did anything to cut into the huge lead that Bernie has with people under 35 at all tonight?
I'm not even going to try to guess.

So striking that Hillary has no vision for herself. Now her message is vote for me if you like Obama
Blacks revere Obama...smart strategy for the Southern primaries IMHO.

Bernie dropped the ball on FDR, should've went MLK.

One of the reasons I really like Sanders is he doesn't do much pandering. FDR is his natural comparison with the safety nets he wants to see in place. To go anywhere else in the USA would be disingenuous at best.

Churchill did seem like an odd answer.

I'll also agree, little juice tonight, Hillary ran scared on campaign finance, Bernie tried to patch through foreign policy but he was more effective than he's been.

I do think Bernie had the better soundbytes but its up to the networks to pull them. The exchange on not punishing kids was strong for him

Bernie the clear winner tonight, I think he cruises in Nevada
Do you think so? We'll know soon enough.
We know CNN thinks she won
CNN is pro Hillary or something? I watch it a lot during the day, never got that impression. They actually spend more time on the Republicans on a daily basis.
This panel is nearly the entire Hillary choir - Begala for Christ sake and Brazile. Then to top it off Gergen - hell why not ask Bill Clinton to sit in.

Sure he didn't pander but was it the best answer?

I thought the question was around/in context of foreign policy leaders
FDR?
... do you not consider FDR someone who had to deal with "foreign policy" issues?

Sanders reminds me so much of McGovern
That's why he'd be schlonged in the general election by Trump or any Republican.
Sanders would destroy the Donald.
Trump would crush the Berm
X

Trump seems to only have a ceiling of 30-35% of Republicans only in a primary full of other unlikable flawed candidates. He'd get destroyed in a general election, especially facing the new reality demographics in this country. The embarrassing loss would be YUGE.

Oh, I see. Yeah I'm not watching 14 people on set again trying to talk over each other.

His #1 priority tonight seemed to be shoring up his weakness on foreign policy. I actually thought he did a reasonably good job on that front too.

You don't think FDR was a strong leader on foreign policy? Probably one of the best ever.

People knocking the Kissinger stuff, but that plays with the old former hippies who are currently Hillary's top demographic

Agree that this debate probably didn't move the needle much. Bernie needs to get on the ground in South Carolina

They've had 8 years of Obama; she is from the same party. It would be very odd if she didn't act as his heir.
This is one of the reasons why I think HRC isn't a shoo in during the general assuming she gets the nomination. She is hugging Obama's nuts...partly to secure the black vote.

But here is the deal...people are not happy in general with the direction of the country. I can't remember the last time I saw a poll that had more than 50% of the country stating that America was on the "right track" or approved of Obama's job performance.

From Real Clear Politics:

President Obama Job Approval Gallup | Approve 48, Disapprove 48 Tie

President Obama Job Approval Rasmussen Reports | Approve 47, Disapprove 52 Disapprove +5
President Obama Job Approval Reuters/Ipsos | Approve 45, Disapprove 52 Disapprove +7
Direction of Country Reuters/Ipsos | Right Direction 23, Wrong Track 63 Wrong Track +40

I do, just not the answer I'd give if I were trying to win the upcoming primaries.

When answering how she would address the refugees boats tipping over in the Mediterranean she said she would work with NATO to stop them from getting into Europe but they are welcome in the US?

He also isn't running against a Socialist in that primary. That's going to be an anchor around the neck in a general election.

Hillary calling out Kissinger's name as a friend and advisor is kind of shocking thinking of how he was once regarded in the Democratic party, I thought that was a great point by Sanders. Henry is an architect of Vietnam intervention and Realpolitik, these were once thoroughly disgraced policies.

Biggest win was easily Sanders response to Clinton's attacks that he was critical of Obama, "I'm not the one who ran against him".

I want to take you back in time. Oh...to around August 1, 2015. A whole 6 months ago.

What do you think Trump's ceiling at that time was?

That was one of many parts where Sanders ####### owned her. She looked like a total buffoon during that exchange.

Yeah his background and history explanation saying he stumped for Obama twice, and Obama came to Vermont when he was running for Senate to lend his support.

But even as someone who voted for Obama twice, I don't really care who has or hasn't supported him 100%. Bernie is not the VP who has to tell everyone he supports POTUS (well unless you are **** Dastardly Cheney).
