I don't get the illegal procedure penalty on the Bettis touchdown that was called back. Hines Ward was on the line of scrimmage, covering the tight end. If it had been a pass play (and the TE had released), it'd be ineligible man down field. But since it was a running play, what was the problem? You have to have seven or more playes on the line of scrimmage. Eight should be okay. What am I missing?

Just a guess, but is it because it then makes the TE an ineligible receiver wearing an eligible number?

That's probably it. He would have had to report to the ref before the huddle in that case.

Simms: Coach Cowher, when I talked to heem on Fridee, said they were gonna git their receivers involved in the geem, and throw them the ball.
 
Up to this point, the NFL playoffs sure have sucked...Hopefully Carolina and Seattle can provide the viewers with a decent game.

 
Goal line back is the most overated phrase in football. Almost any NFL quality running back can score from the 1 if that was his only job. Its about the offense line. With Bus case he knows his line but i can guarntee willparker or Veron haes could do the exact same thing or if not the fullback could. running backs get knocked for not having goaline ability but that can change easily. Look at Corey dillon when he was with Cincy he was always knocked as a bad goaline runner, (I rember him tripping over a lineman), now he is praised as a goal line finsher. What israre is aplayer who can do it all and still finsh as Shaun Alexander

I'm sorry, but I find this totally absurd. There is no RB in the NFL that runs with a forward lean as well as Bettis in short yardage. GL running is about finding the hole, running low, moving the pile when you need to and falling forward rather than backward on impact. Nobody does that better than Bettis right now nor has anyone done it better the last 4-5 years. It amazes me every time I watch Bettis run in these situations how he ALWAYS finds a way to contort his body in a way to get that last foot-yard push with his unique body lean and power.

If the Steelers keep playing like this, they will never lose again.Edit to add: It's only fair to say that I hate the Steelers, but I have money on them. I win either way.

He was 14-3, they beat the team who has won three of the last four Super Bowls, and they are one of four teams left. I'd say he's ok.

I am a huge Bronco's fan and despite the Broncos not able to catch any breaks in the game. Roethlisberger is just killing the Broncos on 3rd down.Yes the Broncos are stopping the Run.. but hell Big Ben it tearing them up thru the AIR

Well lets see this year just for pittsburghVerron haynes had 3 td on 15 attempts from 1-19 yds out=20%

Bettis had 9 tds on 42 touches=21%

then Alstott has 6 tds on only 16 attempts for 38%

Seems to me bettis job isnt all that hard

Randle El made a nice catch (albeit a risky one) on that punt. Over the shoulder catches are risky. And again - nice camerawork CBS.

1-19 yards out is hardly goalline duty.Try 1-5 or 1-10.
