Derrick Johnson (1 Viewer)

Despite the apparent move to the strong side (which has come under some debate as to whether KC employs a true strong side LB vs Right and Left OLB's), Derrick Johnson is flourishing. Especially in the big play department so far (which I will give you - could lead to inconsistency), but despite that he has been in double figures in points in my league all 4 weeks.

This from Rotoworld:

'Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson made his first career interception in Week 4. Johnson has 27 tackles (24 solo), three sacks, three pass breakups, a FF, and the sack through four games, so his apparent switch to the strong side hasn't hurt him as an IDP. He's getting more pass rushing opportunities.'

I've always thought this guy was an absolute stud, but avoided him because of his strong side status. I'd be interested to hear thoughts on his production (can he keep it up?) and whether the fact this guy is a sick athlete overcomes the fact he plays the strong side for IDP purposes?

Even though the Chiefs defense has been on the field often, the 92 solo tackle pace is not sustainable. Still, like Marcus Washington, Karlos Dansby and many other talented SLBs before him, a player like Derrick Johnson in an every down role will have LB3 value. He'll probably settle into his usual 4-6 solo tackle, sack every 3-4 week pace from prior years if the offense settles down and they begin to shorten the TOP deficit with LJ.

Terrific insight. Thanks! :excited:
