The guys we got in the trade are the best ever, they were stolen from you. The guys you got back are all terrible, they'll be lucky to have two cups of coffee in the bigs. /torontofan

Rajai is leading off vs. lefties, but righties is anyone's guess. Certainly possible Rajai is getting this start vs. a rhp because it's opening day and Gose gets them going forward, but based off what Ausmus has said throughout Spring Training I don't think he even knows what he wants at the top of the order vs. righties. He just hopes the question is answered for him by the end of the month.

Watching them both the last few years in Toronto, Davis is so much better offensively, obviously Gose better defensively. Gose likely best used as late inning pinch runner/defensive replacement, he'll kill Detroit if they bat him leadoff.

They are going to split time early on, I would guess about right down the middle. Davis is going to bat a lot vs RHP because a true platoon would have him on the bench too much. I bet Gose plays almost every game though in some fashion.

Gose can help in a lot of ways, I just saw him leading off a few times in spring training, and I think that would be a big mistake.

Gose could pretty easily be the best defensive CF in baseball if he ever got the playing time. His range/speed and arm are insane... too bad about that swing.

Travis has been worth 2.4 wins in 62 games, Gose has been barely above replacement level. I still think Gose is strong defensively and in the bases, even if he's only been worth about a tenth of Kevin Pillar this season.

Gose is who I said he was. Boyd likely will be too. Norris should be real good.

Kevin Pillar is the pits, he and Gose have an almost identical OPS.

I'm so glad the Jays have a manager who isn't stupid enough to bat Kevin Pillar or Ben Revere leadoff though.

Gose has a .700 OPS when hitting first, Jose Reyes who led off 69 times as a Jay had a .709 mark.

Way to lose the argument in every possible way though. You're like the Canadian Da Glitz.

 
Gose needs to learn how to hit lefties and refine his defensive game, but so far I'm pleased with what he's provided.

Are you going to call Matt Boyd and tell him he can't strike out ML hitters? You should, since he's exactly what you said he was. lol

As far as getting a new skipper, per Lynn Henning "The expectation would be Avila and owner Mike Ilitch will opt for 57-year-old Ron Gardenhire, the former Twins general who wants to manage again, and who knows the division intimately."

I think Sanchez will bounce back next year, but it hasn't been pretty for him at all this year. Guy never gave up homers and now he's giving them up with more frequency than anyone. Mostly he looks good during the game too, he just hangs too many.

Since their hot start, the Tigers have been one of the worst teams in baseball. Unbelievably bad.

ETA: They really suck. Any kind of a win streak after the All-star break and they would have been in this race. But they can not buy a win.

Royals were 51-0 when entering the 8th with a lead in 2015, now 51-1.

Going back to last year, Royals had won 111 straight games when leading after 7. :shock:

One day the Tigers will have a bullpen like that. Let's just hope we are still alive to see it.

Yup, so frustrating to first see Minnesota stumble but Detroit unable to do much with it. Now LAA drops a few, yet again, we muddle along and don't jump back into the fray.

 
The Tigers are hanging on to their last hope by the smallest of threads. Last night could have ended it. Will take a miracle which does not seem to be in the cards.

 
Castellanos is rolling! His power and hard hit ball rates are way up the last two months.

Like I've been saying all along, the hit tool is there it's just gonna take some time. Seems like he's finally starting to get it.

 
Daniel Norris with the dreaded oblique strain. Was it because of his swing? Probably. That sucks, gotta think he misses a month.

In a way its a good thing. I recall I read somewhere he already pitched more Innings this year then any of his past seasons. There is nothing to play for or anything to risk this season.

Yes, anyone else than BA will look good for the time being at least, plus you would get some fresh blood as position coaches.

Crazy ...hitting that homer in his first professional at bat. And then Lester walks him on four pitches the next time up. :D ...which was the end of Lester's night. Norris was ticked when he didn't get a hit his final time up. But I agree with DD's assessment that the batting probably was the cause of the oblique strain.

Great to be at both games at Wrigley. Took my son the first night and his fiancé (a Detroit native) last night. LOTS of Tigers' fans both nights. My son and I left after Tuesday's rain delay, knowing the game would extend well past midnight, and having seen a lot of action already ..including Miggy's not-quite-a-home run. That rain was nasty, sideways stuff. Last night was a perfect night with the wind blowing out again. Loved seeing Castellanos' big night and watching Norris take it to Lester. It's amazing, though, how much the bullpen absolutely sucks. :shudder:

Still a sliver of hope! 4 games back in the wild card.

 
So Norris and Sanchez to the DL. And Boyd pitched in relief last night.

So now the rotation is Verlander and Simon and :whistle: and :shrug: and :oldunsure: .

 
Norris can use a few more starts, him learning how to pitch at this level now means better returns next year.

Sanchez needs to be shutdown at this point, he's had a terrible year and the homers point to something more sinister than just a mechanical issue.

 
Good game by the Tigers last night. Kept hoping that Texas would get to the Detroit bullpen, but alas, it was not meant to be.
