***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (1 Viewer)

Miggy with some awesome baserunning that inning.  Stretches a long single into a double where he looked out but wasn't.  Goes from 2nd to 3rd on a flyball to right, then scores on a grounder to first where the throw beat him home.  I think in general the effort from this year has been the best we've ever seen, he really wants to play in October again.

I give the Tigers credit for going with Farmer tonight.  Can't be any worse than Pelfrey or Anibal so might as well see what happens...

This team just won't give up.  I love seeing the fight.  Even if they fall short they're giving all they got and that's all you can ask for.

He allowed the first two base runners to reach in both the 1st and 3rd innings, but I guess he didn't give up six runs like Sanchez would have.

Just turned the game on and there might not be 100 people in attendance.  You can hear one guy in the crowd clear as a bell.  Never seen a MLB game so empty.

JUP has 11 homers and a 1.000 OPS the past month.
13 homers in his last 98 at bats after 13 homers in his first 400+.  Not a good year for Upton overall but it's not that bad either, and getting hot during the most crucial time of the season more than makes up for all the other crap IMO.

I thought after Saturday they were probably done, 4 games out of the wildcard.  Five days later they are .5 up on Orioles and just a game behind the Jays and those two teams play each other next week.  So if they win the rest of their games....they're in.  :)

Really hope they don't lay an egg this weekend, a really strong series sets them up next week because the Indians are gonna clinch sooner than later and might not care as much, and then three with the Braves.

Toronto Schedule is not easy.  Series with Boston, NY, and Baltimore.   All those head to head games are good since there are two spots, so one spot should stay open for the Tigers taking assuming the Tigers win most of their games.  .500 ball will likely not be enough.  But if the Tigers can't win two of three series with two of those teams outside of the playoff race, they don't deserve to be in.

I think 7-3 gets them in - that is 89 wins.  If they get to 88 wins, I think that is when a tie breaker/play in situation occurs.

So if they can go 2-1 vs KC, 2-2 vs Cle, and 3-0 vs Atl that gets them to 7 wins.  Knowing the Tigers though, they will probably get to 6 wins before the Atl series and then get swept.  But maybe that is just me still not able to get out my head that awful 2006 regular season finish when they blew the division title.

Oh and Rondon continues to pitch great.  Hopefully he keeps it up (and, more importantly, Brad uses him in tight spots).  Shane Greene continues to scare the crap out of me in the late innings.

Dare we also mention that Mark Lowe's last 3 appearances include 0 hits & 1 walk & 5 K's in those 3 innings.

JV would pitch game 162, so we'd win that.  Obviously it'd be best to get that wildcard spot by Saturday, so JV gets the ALWC game instead.

I still hate watching him pitch, but he's been fine since the All Star break.  The only team to get more than a run on him was Boston, which is understandable.

Yeah I think that's the 8th inning guy now.  Of course the last time I said it things went horribly wrong so....

Fulmer needs 13.3 innings to qualify for the ERA title.  That means he needs to go 7 in both of his last two starts, I don't see it.

Upton on ####### fire!  This is what he does, when he's hot he's among the best hitters in baseball.  And his streaks are long, as we've seen this year.

You did say he was steaky....If he had done anything the first 2 1.2 months it would have been his best season ever.

Nah, we'll wait and clinch at Comerica. :coffee:

14 baserunners LOB and I have no idea why Maybin was playing so shallow on Orlando.  I thought that was an out off the bat, Maybin really is not a good CF.

That's really a bad time for K-Rod to have his worst outing of the year.  #### me.  :wall:

Went to the game today..what a downer.  Sure as chit both Baltimore and Toronto both won..  Felt like I was punched with a Valverde-Nathan combo.

Those last two innings of Tigers baseball are the two most forgettable consecutive innings since 2013.
Played in an all day golf outing yesterday so did not see any football or baseball. Looking at the box score it seemed like a tough game to figure out. After Boyd did not make it why did Hardy only go one inning? Seen him go 3-4 at times. Then Sanchez? Pelfrey?  Read that Romine laid down a bunt on his own with the bases jammed and none of the runners were expecting it for an easy out at home.

At one point yesterday the Lions were losing 31-3 and the Tigers were down 7-0.  I didn't expect much from the Lions at Lambeau but Boyd and Sanchez were getting knocked around like a piñata.

Turn out the lights
The party's over
They say that
All good things must end
Call it tonight
The party's over
And tomorrow starts
The same old thing again

Only two games out of the wildcard with six to play and the teams we are chasing play each other the next three days.  Let's go!

The tale of the season.  2-14 vs Cleveland.   The Tribes season average is 4.6 runs per game. Against Detroit 6.5 runs per game. Looks like they will need a 5-1 finish.  Don`t think 4-2 will make it.

Hopefully they will all be hungover today.

I was hoping they'd clinch Sunday, so we could get hungover Tribe for the Buck Farmer start.  Hungover or not today and tomorrow could be wins.  I don't think the margin of error is gone, but I think the next two need to be wins.
