Devil's Den Random Murders - Now a possible serial killer? (1 Viewer)

One would think they are safe walking with your wife and two childeren in a park. Do we need to carry a weapon on us now just to walk in the park? This is some scary stuff.

Cristen and Clinton Brink were stabbed to death while hiking with their daughters in Devil's Den State Park in northeastern Arkansas.
Suspect Andrew James McGann, 28, was arrested after a five-day manhunt last week and charged with stabbing Clinton and Cristen Brink to death while they hiked with their two daughters on July 26.

Police said McGann confessed to the killings after he was dramatically arrested at a salon mid-haircut, and he was a match to DNA from the scene. The terrifying attack, which cops said was random, has sparked a second look at two unsolved murders at opposite ends of the country. If McGann were to be considered a suspect in more murders, it could prompt an investigation into the possibility of his being a serial killer.

THE teacher accused of killing two parents in an Arkansas state park is being investigated in connection with two eerily similar cold cases. An unsolved stabbing in 2020 and a mysterious 2023 shooting death are now being revisited in the wake of the double murder at Devil's Den State Park.

What's also bizzare is that he's a teacher. He has crazy eyes. I can't believe someone like this was teaching anyone, let alone children.

The very thought that something like this can happen scares the :poop: out of me. Are we not safe anywhere now?
Serial killers have unfortunately been around for a long time. There’s nothing new as far as “now” goes.
I suppose if you are at a place like a park, where there could be isolation, you probably should carry a weapon of some kind. Something as simple as pepper spray could have saved these people.

My mom hiked (day hikes) the entire time she was alive in CA (1960-2024). A serial killer started hitting isolated hikers in the area...i think in the 70s or early 80s. Trailside Killer? She got pepper spray and started hiking in groups until the guy got caught. Definitely not a new thing /Jack.d.ripper

Of course it’s not a new thing, but it’s no less frightening.

No. Crazy to go shopping, or to church, or to school, or on the highway, or on back roads, or big cities, or small towns.

And we aren't safe at home. Haven't you heard of home invasions? I carry a sniper rifle and baseball bat wrapped in barb wire around the house. Especially to the bathroom. That's guaranteed isolation right there.

Violent crime is actually down quite a bit from the 80s and 90s. We are safer now than we used to be. We hear more about every single bad thing that happens which gives us the impression it’s worse. But yes there are still monsters like this person. And to think he was an elementary teacher. What the hell. Glad he’s caught.

Let me recommend a shower gun. This way you don't need to carry room to room.

The decline happened in the '90s and I don't think a definitive explanation has ever been given as to why. I could speculate but some of what I would say might run afoul of board guidelines.

Enforcement of gang injunctions? The powers that be did a wonderful job in my neck of the woods using gang injunctions to break up gangs.

I think technology has played a big role as well. People have gained more and more ways to entertain themselves from home and have less need to be hanging around outside, bored, looking for things to do, etc. There are a lot of factors that work together. Teen pregnancy has dropped as well. Teen drug and alcohol use as well. It all ties together somehow.
