Lots of nice calls in here regarding the under, hope you guys made out well.
Ashamed because of a muddy field during a stinking football game.... - a life .They should have A) replaced the grass PRIOR to the high school/pitt/steelers games; or B) instead of just laying the new sod over the old field, just ripped up the old turf and laid the new. They knew the schedule well in advance. No excuses. Sharing with Pitt was a horrible idea really. I dont know how much control the Steelers/Rooney have over Heinz Field honestly, but somebody needs fired.I dont want field turf, i just want the grass taken care of properly. They need to destroy the field and totally rebuild the drainage system and place new turf (mostly real grass) down again after the season. I am ashamed to be from Pittsburgh right now.

Thanks for the nice note. And yes I will enjoy spending that money. Now my next problem is if I should bet my Pack against the Boys. I will be at the Casino this morning and if the spread is more than 6, I will take the Pack. I am also thinking that the over might be a good bet too.aardball44 said:Hey, you started the thread. Turned out to be one of the most prescient threads ever posted in the Shark Pool, IMO. Lowest-scoring game in MNF history. No score at all until the last 17 seconds. The debate about the condition of Heinz Field last night will echo into next year. The only thing that could have made it more controversial is if Miami had won the game.Give yourself a hand and enjoy spending that money.coachjim said:Thanks for the input guys. I took Miami +16 and the under (40). I feel like I owe the guys that related what a mess the field would be part of my winnings. That is what is great about this site. The abundance of football information is great.
They did, I think. Unless the announcers were kidding around. It's been done before, IIRC.Last nights conditions actually won it for me, as I had Taylor, J. Allen, Jeff Reed, and FWP going against Roeth, down by 20 or so. Reed's kick gave me the 1 point win, and #1 spot in our league. Whew! It was exciting. I'll keep you guys updated.maybe they should have used clumping kitty litter?
That would have been perfect for burying the brand of "football" I was watching last night.maybe they should have used clumping kitty litter?
totally agree. Early in the season, Soldier Field was inexcusably bad, due to high traffic from high school games. I have to believe the NFL is going to step in here.None of the HS games were played on the new sod. There is no excuse for the field conditions. I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL steps in and forces a change after last nights debacle. And that may not be a bad thing, with a team being regeared towards speed rather than power, every Steeler fan should be rooting for the latest technology in field turf to go in as quickly as possible.
Someone came up with a T-Shirt of fantasy excuses, and the little symbol is "point to the shirt", anytime someone blames any random thing on their fantasy loss. It's a quick way of saying, "No one is interested in your lame excuses for losing this past week".I apologize for my ignorance, but can someone please explain the significance of the emoticon of finger pointing at the shirt? I figure it is something obvious, and I am just being dense...I just seem to be missing the point.
Thanks...just out of curiosity, was "The Heinz Field slop gave my opponent's D/ST 10 shutout pts. and killed me" on the t-shirt?Someone came up with a T-Shirt of fantasy excuses, and the little symbol is "point to the shirt", anytime someone blames any random thing on their fantasy loss. Hrm ... not a good week to own both 85 and Roethlisberger and needing a win to get into the playoffs. UghNi ....Not that I put much stock in any weather predictions five or six days out, but here's the forecast for Pittsburgh next Sunday (Bengals at Steelers on Sunday night):

So what do you call zero offensive points in two games? They rank 22 in points scored and 13th in rushing yards. They have tons of problems but "complete lack of offense" is just ignorant.Miami's complete lack of offense warrants an under bet.
You realize there are only 32 teams right? They rank 22 in points scored....Miami's complete lack of offense warrants an under bet.

That is one of the things that bugs me about fantasy football (not enough to make me break my habit though) You should not be able to overcome a 20 point deficit in a game that both teams combined 3 points.I know, I knowLast nights conditions actually won it for me, as I had Taylor, J. how about if you start defenses or IDP?That is one of the things that bugs me about fantasy football (not enough to make me break my habit though) You should not be able to overcome a 20 point deficit in a game that both teams combined 3 points.

Steelers get NFL help for turf problemTuesday, November 27, 2007Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-GazetteThe NFL has assigned one of its officials to remain in Pittsburgh this week to help the Steelers prepare their playing surface for their next game, Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals."We are working closely with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the grounds crew at Heinz Field to prepare the field for Sunday's game," an NFL spokesman said in a statement today. "Our football operations department will be available to provide any and all necessary assistance as preparations continue for Sunday's game.''
Thanks. I dunno if I buy that. The new turf is sitting on top of the old turf and was torn up pretty bad last night. In years past they simply replace the old turf with new and didn't have a game played during a monsoon almost immediately after they laid it.I assume they'll be able to fix it up a little but I think it is going to be crappier than in year's past.I think it will be entirely dependent upon rain. There are no other football games there this week so if it doesn't rain the field will be as good as it's ever been this time of year.
Read it wrong...Wilbur Wood said:the field at Heinz is and has always been a disgrace. Worst turf in the NFL.
It would cost ~ $1.5M to put in a state of the art field turf. Rooney's are penny wise pound foolish.
They compound the situation be allowing High School and college games to be played on the field.
No. It is owned by the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.abrecher said:Do the Steelers own Heinz Field?
High school kids that will never play pro probably think it's a dream come true. That'll never stop, good or great PRWilbur Wood said:the field at Heinz is and has always been a disgrace. Maybe Ronnie Brown has something to do with that? They rank 22 in points scored and 13th in rushing yards. They have tons of problems but "complete lack of offense" is just ignorant.Miami's complete lack of offense warrants an under bet.
Did you actually watch this game? The field wasn't 'muddy', it was unplayable. There's a reason this was the longest scoreless game in over 60 years. It's a minor miracle that Pittsburgh made even one field goal at the end. Sheesh.Ashamed because of a muddy field during a stinking football game.... - a life .They should have A) replaced the grass PRIOR to the high school/pitt/steelers games; or B) instead of just laying the new sod over the old field, just ripped up the old turf and laid the new. Actually, the "Sports and Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County" owns Heinz Field. The Steelers manage it, as far as I know.abrecher said:Do the Steelers own Heinz Field?
No, Pitt plays at WVU Saturday.Pitt Panthers have another game on Saturday there, the the Steeler play on Sunday. Could be another quagmire.
My mistake..Thought the backyard brawl was at Pitt. But can that field possibly ever recover this year? No way the roots will take in December.I do agree that it lowered Pitt to Miamis level last night. No, Pitt plays at WVU Saturday.Pitt Panthers have another game on Saturday there, the the Steeler play on Sunday. Agreed, the Steelers get Duraspine'd next year.twitch said:What's strange is I dont think the Steelers' brass even realize how much that new surface will benefit their team. And I realize the Steelers are unbeaten at home. But they have one of the fastest Ds in the league. They have the fastest RB in the league. And they now have one of the most prolific passing games in the league. Strong footing will only make them even more dangerous in all areas. After last night's debacle, there isnt a doubt in my mind that Pittsburgh will be a playing on the latest and greatest field turf available next year.
LOL that's weak. Last night was truly an exception. In their previous 5 home games, the Steelers were averaging over 30 PPG, so if they can do it the field is not really an obstacle.Horrible fields make for great defensive #s. The Steelers are tops in the league? Wow, what a shocking development.
Maybe I am wrong but when you punt the ball and the ball plugs upon landing, that seems to have more to do with the amount of water that has been absorbed than the number of games that been played recently. At some point, too much water is just too much water.I don`t claim to be Jerry Baker. But late November in Steel town I would venture to say there is a good chance it could be a bit damp. That being said why would MNF be played on the field the same weekend after they had 5 HS games on Friday. The U-Pitt game on Saturday. Even in decent conditions the natural grass field would be torn up after 6 games in two days.
