Back in 1979 my mom and I were in a serious car accident. We were crossing over 4 lanes with a turn lane in the middle. We got to the turn lane and a guy in the left lane stopped for us. We inched forward and a car going 85 (in a 35) zone hit the side of the car (my side, the passenger). Neither one of us had seat belts on. My mom was knocked out and taken to the hospital. I was knocked out but came to. I had the car door with tons of glass on my lap, and I was practically on my mom's lap. The cop told me it was a good thing we DIDN'T have seat belts on. If we did, we wouldn't have been able to move with the seats/absorb the shock the way we did. I for sure would have been dead as the seat belt wouldn't have allowed me to move practically onto my mom.

I know this is a fluke and not the norm, but can't say wearing your seat belt will always save your life.
Yea, I wouldn't wear one in case that one in a million accident crops up. Much better odds than the 99 out of a 100 times it could be the difference between life and death.

Seriously, I never considered FBGs to be a bunch of MENSA members or anything. But the fact this is even a point of contention makes me wonder about the collective intelligence of people that frequent this board.

Do you guys jump inside a cab and put on a seatbelt seriously?
Like I wrote, a gb got seriously ####ed up in a taxi accident because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt in the back. Hospital for a month, and continued problems. Since then, I always wear a seatbelt. Especially since having kids. I guess you're too cool for that.

I've also never worn a helmet while riding a bike. Bunch of nerds imo
I've been doored and gone down twice in group rides, hitting my head on pavement all three times. No helmet, and I'd be ####ed up myself. But again- not as cool as you. I hope your kids don't have to wonder some day why daddy wasn't wearing a helmet/seatbelt. Also hope- but I assume it is- that this isn't some idiotic night-time look at me trolling thing.

I don't wear a helmet on a bicycle mostly because I don't ride a bicycle mostly because I'm not 15.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's taxi accident.

Please enlighten us Otis. What is the downside of wearing a seatbelt in a cab? Hopefully you buckle your kid up........
What's the downside of wearing one of those little beanies with the propeller on it? Not really much I guess.

No, my kids surf on top of the cab like Teen Wolf.

Yes, those two things are exactly alike. One might embarrass you, the other may end your life. If bad analogies could be fined, Joe would be a rich man.

Yeah, wish I could be as cool as my friend that wasn't wearing a seatbelt and died my senior year of high school.

Or maybe my cousin that wasn't wearing a searbelt, became a parapalegic and eventually overdosed on pain medication.

If both of them had been a little less "cool" they'd both be alive today. But they got to be cool and die young.

Anyone that doesn't buckle up anywhere in the car is a moron.

I don't wear one because frankly it doesn't even cross my mind when I get in the back seat (which is rare).

It's like being shocked that somebody doesn't wear ear muffs and safety goggles while mowing their lawn...
Congratulations on making the worst analogy in the history of this forum.

Oh come on... it's not even in the top 100 of the worst analogies in the history of this forum...

drama queen
For proof of this, please see the current Tony Stewart thread.... we have people comparing Tony hitting a guy while driving a racecar on a dirt track to somebody trying to avoid a squirrel in a family car on a residential street...
