A lot of outrage in a situation that is not likely to happen, so lets get a little more real.  Pet/stranger is being attacked (by something else, just same situation, not same time) you have no weapons.  They are injured enough to no be able to help and if you don't help they will die.  Now if you help there is over a 50% chance you wll die too.   You call 911 but help will not be there in time.  It is fight or flight time for you.  What do you do?

I'm a huge animal lover but I would not help my pet in this situation. I don't think I could just stand by if it was a person though.

how do i know the stranger didn't do something to get in trouble. I remember years ago i was out drinking and got outside and there was a fight. One dude was absolutely destroying the other guy. I stepped in to get him to stop, and it ended up being the guy he was beating up tried to rob him (or something, i was certainly past buzzed). Details little fuzzy, but it was obvious the dude winning the fight was not a bad guy.

and I would love to know why some stranger is attacking my pet? need more details...

Couldn't care less about whether animals live or die - the cure for a sick pet? new pet - and feel that 90% of pet love is due to its unqualified and uncomplicated nature and is always a flaw if it is. That said, i've never not stepped in to end cruelty or extreme assboilery when i thought my contribution would achieve same.

Stranger not attacking pet, they are in same situation not at the same time.  Pack of wolves attacking them.

hmm, interesting. i would take the wolves on with the 50% chance of biting it (guilt after the ordeal wouldn't be worth the 50%). If at same time as stranger, interesting choice

I'm not dying for either, sorry. I have folks that count on me. Not putting them in that situation over a stranger. Sure as hell not doing it over an animal.

Agreed. I dont think I would be ok with a 50% chance of my kids not having me around anymore. If that makes me a selfish person, so be it. Its the same reason I dont pick up hitchikers and only ask people pulled over if they need me to call anyone for them. Enough bad stories to make me let someone else deal with it.

I have to know what it is.  I'd fight a grizzly bear, but I'm not gonna #### with a swarm of bees.
