In my last year of pharmacy school, I did a rotation with a Target District Manager. We did a lot of store visits, mostly unannounced. The first thing they did was check out the cart situation in the parking lot. They said it was ‘tell’ of what they could expect from the visit. You can pretty accurately guess how well the store is being managed, shrink and other stats. In the pharmacy it was the rate of prescriptions filled but not picked up. He’d make predictions in the parking lot and be right 90% of the time.

Since then I’ve always paid attention to the parking lot cart situation and who brings them back.

Thanks to this thread I've been wasting 30 minutes a night watching cart narc videos.

Many of them are hilarious but the guy is just begging for a beat down - especially when it puts stuff on people's car.  I think he crosses a line there, even if the people are a-holes.  He has no right to do that.

if there is no cart return i still take it back to the store....... you guys are soft
This has always been my practice too, but this past weekend I paid a price for being conscientious. The grocery store my wife and I go to doesn't have any cart return areas in the parking lot, carts have to be returned to the pavement near the store entrance. I returned our cart this past weekend and headed back to our car. As I was crossing the traffic lanes in front of the store a lady in a SUV made a left turn out of the same aisle we were parked in and somehow didn't see me crossing towards her. Ran right into me and knocked me on my ###. Couldn't believe it. Maybe I should sue the store for pain and suffering because they don't have cart returns in the parking lot.

Those Cart Narc videos really are fascinating. Obviously there's probably a ton of footage of totally non-confrontational stuff, but man....it just shows how people REALLY double down to defend themselves even when they're clearly in the wrong.

I mean...the corral is literally 50 feet away in some of them.

The suction cup flag he's added recently is hilarious.

What does it mean if a lot of prescriptions aren't being picked up? That staff isn't returning them to inventory after a certain amount of time has passed? Or that they aren't proactively contacting customers about orders that are ready? Or something else?

It means patients aren’t picking them up within 10 days. It may be a sign of staff being unreliable - not making calls, phone number not updated, etc. But it’s more likely an indication that the customers are unreliable. There’s very good reasons for not picking up in time but we typically see the same people over and over again.

That’s the way I feel…he’s going to get shot one of these days. He pushes it far more than I could. I start rooting for the lazy butts half the time now.

I'll admit, I thought of this thread yesterday when I went to the store with my kids.  They are old enough now where they can be in the car for 5-10 minutes or even longer if need be.  There was no cart corral near where I happened to park so I walked the extra 75-100 feet to return the cart to where they were queued in front of the store.  :D

I think...for the most part...he picks his targets pretty carefully.  There are a few exceptions, but for the most part...its women, older guys or overweight guys. Basically, people that are unlikely to be a threat or he can easily get away from.

But I did watch his "Best of 2021" video this morning and there were a couple of scary ones (including one dude who pulled out a gun)

I agree but he’s going to pick on the wrong person one day. I watched the one with the father son altercation. If the son got him, he would have hurt him. The narc started mocking the dude telling him he would never catch him.

He will either get shot, run over or someone else gets shot/run over because of the interaction.

Have the police ever showed up? Has he been sued?

Sued for what?

It is funny to see a lot of these people, who appear to have limited physical abilities, aggressively approach like they want to fight.  Cart Narc always backs down and gives them space.  But what if he didn't?  Couldn't he legally defend himself if they chose to hit him?  Cart Beatdowns would get even more views than Cart Narcs.  And no way was the gun guy actually going to use it.  I was really disappointed when Cart Narc retreated.  Perfect chance to deploy the flag.

Starbucks employees a bunch of people in the morning, not so many in the afternoons.  I contend that if more people scattered them they would have to hired even more people.  I guess the store could also purchase more carts and we'd have more stories like these https://nationalcart.com/history/  I'm not sure why you guys hate America.  Now maybe you are correct and if we all return our carts and restock the groceries we take off the shelves the corporate overlords will just pay people to sit around and watch cartnarc videos.

The job creator schtick is hilarious.  Couldn't imagine being a grown man and not picking up after myself...or teaching my kids it's okay to leave your toys out all willy nilly when you're done playing.

Not totally related to this, but I have a few philosophies when it comes to grocery store parking lots.

Anybody that doesn't think Covey applies to grocery store parking lots is wrong......begin with the end in mind!

I always park in a spot fairly far away, that is going to make good sense for my exit route. And generally a spot close to a cart corral. Right next to is ideal, if possible.

I make big Sam's runs for the restaurant, and those big covered cart corrals really come handy loading a massive order in the rain (I absolutely do not, never will, use the designated loading area near the door in the rain. That's inefficient, and should be reserved for little old ladies or men with no shame).

I also believe that if you drive by the entrance of a grocery store, you've likely made a mistake*. Most people do it. They are looking for that magical spot so they can park 3 inches closer. In the process they have to deal with congestion and foot traffic trying to get in and get out. And of course, a lot of wasted time in the process.

*I'm sure there are other exceptions to this rule based on layout, but the only one I can think of is Aldi, where usually the parking lot is designed so you have to drive past the entrance. Also interesting that they can pull off this design with customers bringing back their own carts. It says something about the Aldi customer culture, that they can pull that off without it turning into a cluster.

Yep, never drive by the front of the store. Whatever side you enter on, just find a spot over there

I believe Aldi still charges a 25 cent deposit for carts which is taking away jobs from hard working Americans.  They must be stopped!!!.

I don’t know? People sue for everything now, and often win.

Putting people on YouTube after they tell him to quit videoing them? Is that legal?
I've seen them explain this before, basically saying the people are in a public place with security cameras everywhere...no expectation of privacy at places like that.

Not 30 minutes a night, but probably a few hours total.

My wife does nearly all our shopping so...in the last 10 days I've likely spent more time watching cart narc videos than time spent returning carts in the last 20 years.

I understand and get that. But people telling Mr NarcCart “you do not have permission to video me and post a video of me on YouTube “….is that still legal?

Someone did that in one of his videos and Sebastian flat out told the guy it’s totally legal and even gave the guy his lawyer’s name.

VandyMan said:
Dunno. Some of the lawyerguys might know. My assumption is it must be legal or those videos would get shut down.

I would think if he's monetizing those videos in anyway he would need their permission.  Impractical Jokers blur out anyone not signing a release.

I had insomnia last night and clicked this thread - ended up watching NarcCart videos for 45 mins in the wee hours. Looking forward to watching more. That said, it does seem that putting something on someone’s car is more often than not what triggers the outbursts. And I can sort of get that, even if it’s not behavior I would exhibit under those circumstances.

I almost always do.

The times I have not have been for specific reasons such as a gout flare up in the ankle.

I feel it is a strong indication of the quality level of your humanity on whether youndo or not. My kids know, we put our carts away.
