Do you start Steven Jackson? (1 Viewer)

Team ROFLCOPTERS

Im worried about the lack of reps he will receive due to his holdout. Do you guys think it is a good idea to start him? Week one is slim for me with Brandon Marshall inactive and my only other flex options is Deuce McCallister or Bernard Berrian.

What is your strategy my fellow sharks?

My strategy is that if I draft anyone in Rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, and maybe 5 I start him week one.

"always start your studs."

I'd probably bench him. Maybe try and trade him for Justin Fargas; he's got a nice matchup and has been getting reps all summer.

My strategy would be to put you on waivers, and assign you to the Assistant Coaches Forum if you clear waivers.

I am benching SJax in favor of Portis and Addai. I do not like the Rams in Philadelphia on week 1. That match-up, coupled with SJax holding out make me think he may get shut down. On the other hand I have Addai who will be at home against the Bears, in primetime, in a brand new stadium. I think the Colts are going to put up some points. Portis is also in prime time, and facing a Giants D that is much worse than the Philly D, especially having lost Umenyiora.

So, you own the 4th, 5th, and 7th best backs and are justifying benching Jackson on that basis?Come back when you bench him for McFadden or C. Johnson.

Well, St. Louis is talking about Jackson possibly not starting and I noticed ESPN talking about not starting him week one (they think he'll get 8 points total). I have been doing this for 9 years and I've never even considered such a thinkg before but all these whsipers are making me nervous.

Jim Thomas spoke of it on "the drive" yesterday. He's their beat writer. Linehan also insinuated that he won't be taking on the full load.

September 1, 2008, 18:00Rams :: RBRams RB Jackson To Receive Heavy WorkloadBill Coats, St. Louis Post-Dispatch - [Full Article]St. Louis Rams HC Scott Linehan sarcastically stated that RB Steven Jackson, who had held out of training camp, would receive 50 carries on Sunday when the team faces the Philadelphia Eagles. "We'll use him; we're not going to inactivate him," Linehan said. "He's going to be ready to go. We've really worked the conditioning level. He's had one grueling week and had a lot of good snaps today."

I am benching Tomlinson b/c he never played a snap in the preseason....What's up with that????

:goodposting:

Ouch!!! I guess I shouldn't tell you guys that I am benching McGahee in my other league :goodposting: I'm a successfull fantasy yada yada yada. I didn't think the question was that crazy due to the circumstances. I will now banish myself to the fish bowl until I become sane.

I think that would be for the best...lol jk

Differant circumstances. Jackson only had 3 practices in the offseason while LT fully participated in every practice. Not having any contact all offseason and being thrown into an nfl game is a recipe for disaster, which is why there has been buzz about Jackson splitting reps with Pittman.

Can't believe the not starting part but...Ron: Jim, what should we expect from Steven Jackson on Sunday?

Is he ready to go and will he handle the full load? How many carries do you see him getting in our first game?

Thanks in advance.

Jim Thomas: Boy that's the question of the hour. I just see no way that Jackson gets 25 to 30 touches. I think Pittman gets worked in there a fair amount.

Your sarcasm had no relevence to the conversation and makes no sense whatsoever. It wasn't witty or funny and makes me question your understanding of the topic.

Dude, quit while you're behind. If you spent your 1st round pick on SJax, you'd best never.....ever ask this question on a message board with people more advanced in fantasy sports as yourself.Have a nice season.

Ah, it's guys like Tat that make the board so great.

the arrogance of some of the people on this board is absurd....

How about, if someone asks a question you think is stupid, you don't bother replying? How insecure do you have to be to reply just to rip someone, and then brag about your "member number" or whatever... yikes....

anyway, I'm starting Steven Jackson this week... even if Pittman gets a few extra touches, unless you have another viable stud RB to put in his place, I think you have to give him the nod.

I had eggs and toast for breakfast.

(just throwing the word "strategy" in your post does not change the fact that it is a "WDIS?")

Would someone even consider not playing their stud running back? I don't care if Lawrence Taylor and **** Buktus come back; I am still starting the guy I spent a first round pick on.

If you're having concerns about SJax, I'd have to ask why you drafted him in the first place.

But to be kinder than some posters here, I understand. Its the start of the season and you want to get off to a good start. You're reading up on every scrap of information you can find about your players and some of it isn't what you want to hear. Its certainly better to do this than blindly pluging players to your line up. Case in point, my matchup for week 1 in one league has Engram listed as a starter. Maybe he'll change it, I'm guessing not though as he has benched Marshall. I guess he just hasn't read up enough on all his players.

I am going to start him. There is no way I am sitting down my #1 pick #4 over all.

I will get upset if Rams only give him 10~15 touches but that is still better than sit him down and he gets 15 carries 120 yards with 2 long run tds.

Some good news is Pace practiced fully in all drills in Practice yesterday as did all the oline.

If you read through the St Louis papers, the only mention about Jackson being limited is from one beat writer's (Thomas) question and answer blog. It's cleary speculation on his part..... Maybe he's right, but the Coach has said Jackson will get plenty of work.. Who to believe? I think you would have to start Jackson with full confidence if the only negative out there is a beat writer's random thoughts..

In a PPR league, the way they use him may be beneficial as I would think a few extra short passes or dumpoffs in space may be used to ease him into the pounding that he hasn't built up to yet. At least I hope...

Well if your asking "who should I start?" then I'd say SJax.

and I think there is a seperate forum for that.

OMGHI2U2

................Rams coach Scott Linehan expects Steven Jackson, who ended a 27-day holdout Aug. 20, to carry a full load in the season opener. Linehan said last week served as a "semi-boot camp" for the running back coming off his third straight 1,000-yard season despite missing four games with injuries. This week, Jackson is on the same schedule as the rest of the roster. Jackson will be running behind a line led by seven-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Pace, who said he hasn't felt this healthy since before last season's opener. "He's ready to go," Linehan said Wednesday. "He's gotten in two weeks of real solid conditioning along with the reps. We're going to play him like we always do. He looks like his same old self to me."
