Do You Use A Phone Case? (1 Viewer)

Do you use a phone case?

I always do but if the phone was more rugged, then I would love to not use one. Agree with CF8 that they are also slippery little suckers.

Absolutely. I drop my phones all the time.

Yes, I have two phones. One dedicated to work, one dedicated to personal. I do recognize I can put apps on one phone to shut work out but I can also undo them and I know myself too well that I would. So I carry and pay for two phones simply so I can put the work one away when I need to force myself to take a break.

No, I am in the minority but I hate the extra bulk they add.

Yes I have a crack in the screen of my 2 year old phone, but it is minor and a risk that I will continue to take.

Did you end up signing up for 1440? This was one of the features stories this morning.

And yes, yes I do. I'm such a coward. :bag:

I used to go raw but broke way too many screens so I gave in and deal with the slight annoyance of the additional bulk.

I got a case only so i can throw 2 credit cards and my ID in the back of it. No need for a wallet. If i have cash i just shove it in my pocket.

I’d probably keep a case on my phone if I still carried a wallet but I’ve used a wallet case for 5-6 years now. Will never go back.

Went naked for like 10 years. Kept declining the insurance, convincing myself it wouldn't happen again. Broke or lost (and had stolen) way too many.

Finally got the insurance on a 13 in 9/21 and it's the longest I've ever gone not needing it. Not once. Longest I've ever had the same phone for that matter. So by the time I upgrade in 6 months, I'll have paid @ $500 in unnecessary insurance.

Now that, is exactly how you DON'T do it.

Thought this was interesting about how phones now are tougher and people are starting to use them more without cases.

I've had a smart phone with a glass screen since 2007 and have never used a case. I've never broken a phone.
Jonny Ive designed a beautiful device; why cover it in plastic?

Everyone I’ve had is too slippery without a case
This is my reasoning. I have a personal phone (with case) and work phone (without case). The work phone is very slippery and I have dropped or almost dropped it many times. Both phones are the exact same model.

Plus my case has a stand that folds out so I can use that when necessary.

I use a case, but it's a bare minimum piece of rubber just to prevent it from feeling slick/slippery, and to offer a little bit of protection on the rare case I drop it or plop it down on a hard surface a little too hard. I see no need to put one of these $100+ monstrosities on them with screen protector and shock absorbers and side button flip covers and port hole plugs and all that jazz.

What this gentleman said.

This is where I'm at.

I use a plastic case. I just learned metal cases could cause unhealthy exposure to the phone's radio frequency.

I also have a dedicated work phone, which goes on airplane mode when I’m off. Thankfully, I don’t have to pay for it - if it would have been offered a couple years earlier, I’d still be using a flip phone.

Both phones have thin cases, and the work has a screen protector as well. My phone and watch have nothing overlying their screens.

Isn't the phone itself made out of metal? I have never heard of this. Tell me more
For an I phone, if you go to Settings > General > Legal & Regulatory > RF Exposure it will show the phone's RF exposure information including the absorption rate your body takes in.

They even recommend using hands free options to reduce RF exposure.

Below that is a disclaimer.
  • Important Note:
Cases with metal parts may affect the RF performance of the device, including its compliance with RF exposure guidelines.

What unhealthy consequences are you trying to avoid?
I'm just learning about it all now. I had heard the rumors that sleeping with a cell phone on your body can cause cancer, but never paid much attention to it. I don't have my phone on my body too long each day and sleep with it on a nightstand.

It was a bit concerning to hear cell phones have disclaimers on them about reducing RF exposure.

I don't know what the dangers of RF exposure even are, but I've always suspected all this wifi and Bluetooth signals can't be healthy for people.

I'm not tinfoil hat enough on this one to change my ways, but its on my radar now...:ninja:

Raw Dawg is the way to go.
Yes, I've cracked several screens, but I also buy the cheapest phone available.
Currently rocking a sub $200.00 Samsung A15
