Dolphins pick up TE David Martin

Dolphins signed former Packers TE David Martin.

This, couple with the news that Randy McMichael is on the trading block, could make Martin someone to watch in training camp. He's never been able to stay healthy as a pro, but Martin has great pass-catching skills and Cam Cameron will know how to use him. Mar. 4 - 10:24 pm et

if the Dolphins can get a 3rd for McMichael they should do it

Wonder if they signed Martin to ensure they have a suitor for McMichael?

Regardless, I'm glad to see Martin gone from Green Bay. Hopefully he signed for enough money and plays well enough to get them a compensatory pick in '08.

:goodposting: As a Packers fan, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that you couldn't be further from the truth in regards to Martin's hands.

Hey, it's not me saying it. I only cut and pasted the info.

Sorry, thought it was you.Whoever said it is pretty far off, though.

The writing is on the wall for McMichael. He's as good as gone. With Martin, Peele (who played under Cameron for 4 years and was drafted ahead of McMichael and who is a much better blocker than McMichael), Rader, and Massaquoi, there is no way that McMichael stays on the team to collect that $3M bonus he's due next Monday.

How well do the Dolhins' picks and TE rookie projections align?Greg Olsen would be a good fit.
To answer your question here are the Dolphins current picks:Round 1 (#9 Overall)Round 2 (#40 Overall)Round 2 (#60 Overall, From New England, if Wes Welker did indeed sign with the Patriots)Round 3 (#71 Overall)Round 4 (#104 Overall)Round 6 (#166 Overall)Round 6 (#183 Overall, from Denver via Wilkinson Trade)Round 7 (#200 Overall)

Dolphins should have been able to move McMichael for a 4th round pick. They did not do a good job by just releasing him.

What in the hell are you talking about? Sure, he had a few drops last year, but he is an excellent recieving TE. His main problem is staying healthy. And compared to Bubba Franks, he's freekin' Tony Gonzalez...Will he be in the same league as Gonzalez, Winslow, Gates, Shockey? No.

Will he be a steal late in drafts and outproduce one of the guys listed above? Yes.

His drops came at critical junctures in the games. Plus, before last season Packer fans never knew if he was any good because he was never on the field. I'm pretty sure Gilbert Brown would have put up better numbers than Bubba and Lee. Next to those guys Martin looked solid, but he is anything but.

If Martin is so good, where the hell was he the past few years when Green Bay needed a TE and another receiving option so bad?Martin will be out out of the NFL in a couple of years. He's no better than the veteran minimum at this point.

From what I've seen Martin seemed to have decent hands, but I guess I'll defer to the GB homers. I don't recall many drops.

On the bench hurt, which is why Tompson didn't resign him. And is also why I said HIS MAIN PROBLEM IS STAYING HEALTHY. (please see my original post)
