Don't people read the league rules when they join? (1 Viewer)

I believe there are a lot of people who join leagues who barely read the league constitution, then want to change things right away shortly after joining. In the Legends leagues we have FCFS during the off-season (It's a Legends League thing) before and after our league draft, yet there are some who are now complaining about setting a date / time for the FCFS to begin, complaining about the mad rush to add players. Legends IV draft is only 3 rounds, whereas the other Legends drafts are 4 and in the first three no one is breaking their ankles to the keyboard to pickup players after our draft. We roster 27 during off season in Legends IV. Maybe we should go to 4 rounds and then no one would give a crap what's on the WW after the draft, LOL. I know we could go to blind bids and I don't really care if we do or don't, but one thing I won't do is have a waiver priority in the off-season. We do that in-season. None of the other Legends leagues do blind bids and I'm already in plenty of those. I keep telling myself to get out of the commish business, because sometimes I truly hate it.

Just venting,

Chuck

Always good for a commish, we need it to keep us sane.

I have no issue answering questions that i know perfectly well are clearly written in the league rules. It does test my patience after the 237th time.

I do agree with you about long standing rules that some blow in starts questioning.

I get more annoyed when I've gone to the trouble of sharing with the league an explanation or required process but that same recent message board post is ignored or they couldn't be bothered to pay attention to it and ask the same questions

Vent over :-)

Sorry to give you a headache, Chuck.

It's right there in the small print and I missed it:

After our draft a date and time will be posted at the league message board for when FCFS begins for the remainder of the off-season.

maybe you could start a rule that if someone asks a question that is covered by the bylaws they get fined or have to give up there best player then i bet no one would ask any questions and you would feel like clint eastwood and say i know what your thinking did i fire five shots or six but instead you could say i know what you are thinking did i read the rules or did i not read the rules and people would probably respect that brohan

I know it isn't you point, but that is a bad rule.

Actually I would like to quit being the commish in all leagues. I'm relinquishing the job in FLL4 and that only leaves me with FLL1 and FLL2. I turned FLL3 over to another owner a couple of years ago. I would like to turn FLL1 and FLL2 over to someone else too, but no takers. These are long standing leagues with great owners, so I'll continue being the commissioner of FLL1 and FLL2 for now. I've been running leagues for a long time and I think I'm about at the end of my run. I regret turning over FLL4 since it's a new league, but I just realized how I feel about the job and the reason really isn't this simple issue we're having in FLL4. It just got me thinking about how little I really wanted to do the job anymore.

The new commissioner can put it up for a vote.

bein g commish of a league is a big thing and takes a lot of work and everyone blames you for everything even when you did not do anything it is sort of bull and it just gets worse and worse so i get it but i am sure that everyone says thanks to you for everything you did year in and year out and i bet they will tell you that so keep on keepin on and altho i was not in one of your leagues good on you for being the commish for a long time and doing it right take care brohan

Historically, if you have a hard time being questioned or having your opinion challenged, you probably don't have the optimal skill set to be a commish.

I've been a commish for a long time with a good track record. I'm just at the end of the job.

Hey, I know you, how many leagues do you commmish?

We had some questions come up a couple months ago in the league I commish. One or two owners wanted to make some rule changes. (which I am OK with for the most part) As things continued, I politely reminded all owners that a fantasy football league only stays together as long as the Commissioner keeps it together. Owners will come and go, but the if the Commissioner leaves, the league is done.

Because of this, there certain rule changes that I don't want to consider. If it changes the league into something that I don't want to play in, then it's over.

I don't mind rule changes, we do it all the time. My problem is that I just don't want to do the job anymore. I think after 12 or 13 years you get tired of it. I didn't realize this fully until last night. You have to be honest with yourself and your leagues about how you really feel about doing that job. It would say it was wrong of me to take on another league, but I didn't fully realize how I felt at the time. Now I see clearly and I'm hoping we can go forward with the new commish and have a very successful league. I really like a lot of the owners in FL4. It will be a great league.

You're right then, it's time to get out. Not doing anyone any favor by sticking around.

My example was based on why I started the league. I created a league that I wanted to play in. I'm OK with rule changes as well, but if someone said they wanted to start 2 qb's, I would be against it. Not a league I want to play in. Unfortunately, if all 15 other owners wanted to do it, I would either leave the league or look for 15 new owners. But, I won't stick around and do all the work, so they can enjoy all the benefits. But, that's just me.

I can fully understand and respect that.

I've been a commish for a long time with a good track record. I'm just at the end of the job.
I don't blame you, it's a lot of work. Time to go back to just enjoying playing and not have to worry the headcases. Thanks for starting up a great league though, I wouldn't have joined had you not started it.

Thanks and I think we will have a great league going forward. I'm excited about playing in that league.

i can relate on every level here... it does suck to be a Commish sometimes. You can't/shouldn't get compensated for running a league. You have 11 or 13 other agendas to balance. You need to be fair, transparent and firm. You put the integrity of the league above the pettiness. Completely a thankless job. I only do it (did it) to keep a league together or to start a league with friends/compatriots that I respect, and it is my reputation as a sentient being that drives me to do the best job possible when i Commish. I don't need the BS and have no problem walking away if the S is not worth it anymore

I don't think I can play in a league where I am not the commissioner. Frankly I just don't trust anyone to do as good a job as I do and answer all the questions I do, provide the reminders, clarify the rules, run the league with integrity, put the good of the league above the welfare of their own team, etc.

Been doing it for 13 years and I do get tired at times, and considered relinquishing control but that would involve leaving the league so I just pick up my cross and carry on. It's my calling in life so it's my burden to bear
