Don't sleep on Donte Moncrief: Draft Day steal (1 Viewer)

FBG says Wayne will likely play on Sunday... Where does that leave Moncrief for this week? WR3 with upside? Are you still playing him and who are you playing him over? If Wayne was out, I'd have played moncrief over edelman, but with Wayne in and NE vs. Denver, Edelman's my guy.
I'm playing Bowe over him (0.5PPR) with JJ on bye. I also don't trust the whole H. Nicks angle.

Dropped Wayne for Moncrief last week due to injury but with the news that Wayne is playing, dropping DM for Wayne in ppr :loco:

Holy crap, that's not a shabby percentage of snaps at all considering the QB. I was wondering about that myself.

Great WR3/flex for the home stretch IMO.

Given what we're hearing, I would expect that more of Nicks's snaps as the 3rd WR will go to Moncrief going forward, but you never know with coaches.

after that last performance and nicks performance all year, i cant see how they dont swap nicks and moncriefs snap %

I like him, but am wary of his ceiling. This smells of a setup, where the Colts draft a stud WR to go with the late 3rd rounder that's been a pleasant surprise. He doesn't seem to have natural ball skills and that's going to lead to some drops and missed chances that a Jeffrey would make. Hilton is probably the biggest counter to that discussion, because WR isn't exactly a huge need and given that they have a playmaker already, maybe they are satisfied to go with what they have until they can shore up other spots. I just don't see Moncrief being the lifer that people are wanting him to be with Luck. He's not Luck's Harrison or Wayne, likely he's more like his Colston, holding down the fort and overachieving until a thoroughbread shows up.
Most people got Moncrief cheap, we're supposed to be unhappy if we get 80-1000-7 for the next 6 years?
That's not what I said. Note the first sentence. Those numbers you cite would indeed be fun for a guy you got cheap (how cheap? He was a late 1st in both my dynasty leagues) but that's not the tone this thread is taking. I didn't say unhappy, or bust, or disappoinment. I'm wary of his ceiling, that's all.

@PFF_NateJahnke: Colts Halftime WR snap count: TY Hilton 37, Reggie Wayne 37, Hakeem Nicks 26, Donte Moncrief 7

Still stuck behind Nicks, eh. Bummer.
Vs Nicks former team, any chance that was part of the snap count?
I doubt it - at least not to this point. I could see a coach giving 4th quarter garbage snaps (like the ones starting right about NOW) for altruistic reasons, but I think if the coaching staff felt Moncrief would give them a better chance of winning today, he would have been playing more than Nicks in the first half and early third quarter.

Rotoworld:

Donte Moncrief - WR - Colts

Donte Moncrief played on just nine snaps through 2:57 left in the third quarter of Monday night's win at New York.

Moncrief finished with 25 snaps, but that's irrelevant. Before garbage time, he was out-snapped by Hakeem Nicks 37-9, a maddening number for anyone that has watched Nicks play at all this year. Until the coaches make the move and insert Moncrief as the No. 3 wideout, he won't be a viable fantasy play.

Rotoworld:

Donte Moncrief played on 30 snaps in Sunday's win over the Jaguars, two more than Hakeem Nicks.

Reggie Wayne led the way by playing on 71-of-76 snaps, followed by T.Y. Hilton's 59. So Moncrief's count was skewed a bit by Hilton taking it easy (presumably because he was operating on no sleep after the birth of his daughter), but it's still notable that the rookie is eating into the washed-up Nicks' time. If we can ever get into a spot where we know Moncrief is going to get 60-70 percent of the snaps, he'll be a strong WR2/3 play.

There's also a lot of noise about Duron Carter going to the Colts. If that happens he could compete with Moncrief for snaps/targets.

Talk about maximizing limited opportunities - look out next year
what about the rest of this season? wayne has really slowed down
2 receptions in a blowout game, even though they both went for TDs, you just can't bank on that. I wish I could, and I'm glad I have him in my dynasty league, but for this season he's a wildcard.
A mere 35 points on my bench.

Not sure how you can start him, though, as he's just as likely to go 3-35 next week.

Man. Is anyone thinking about playing Moncrief? Given Sammy Watkins decline, I'm leaning on guys like Mike Floyd, Percy Harvin, John Brown as options for WR3. With Moncrief making a late season sighting last week, does anyone know if anything has changed? Where is he in relation to Reggie Wayne? Despite his huge game, he did so on very few targets. As I type this, I'm starting to feel that given his low number of targets, expecting consistency might be foolish at this point. I'd love to see Moncrief getting a full-time load of targets from Andrew Luck.

Even though Moncrief only had 4 targets again, if you examine Week 13's number a little closer you see he actually had an increased role compared to week 12 and is definitely trending in the right direction.

In Week 12 , the Colts ran 74 offensive plays,

Wayne played 69 had 9 targets

Hilton played 57 had 5 targets

Moncrief played 30 had 4 Targets

Nicks played 26 had 1 target

In Week13, the Colts only ran 51 plays

Wayne played 46 had 5 targets

Hilton played 43 had 5 targets

Moncrief played 28 had 4 Targets

Nicks play 16 had no targets

So in week 12 for the first time Moncrief saw more snaps than Nicks but it was close. In week 13 they ran far fewer plays (partly because of the big plays to Moncrief) but Moncrief saw significantly more snaps Nicks.

This week Haden will likely cover Hilton and at times Wayne. You know Luck will get his yards and with Moncrief clearly playing in most 3 WR sets now he may see his highest targets this week to date.

Also, for all this talk about him still not getting many targets, really no colts wr had that many targets this week because the Colts ran so few plays and Fleener saw a lot. The Browns though actually have been tougher against TE's this year than they have against wide receivers.

I still don't trust his usage. He had two big plays last week. Fleener has been seeing more action come his way and Herron catches a lot of passes too.

Can't trust him...especially in a playoff week.

Just grabbed him off the WW in a 16-team standard league, dropping Andrew Hawkins. Now the question is whether to start him this week. Other options are Fitz and Travis Kelce (WR/TE flex). I hate chasing points, but the whole "start your WR2 vs. Cleveland" thing is enticing. Question is whether he's surpassed Wayne to become WR2. Clearly not in terms of snaps, but possibly in terms of targets?

Fleener has seen more action because their top tight end has been out

Perhaps, but couldn't Allen's return mean there will now be one more mouth to feed?

If Moncrief gets more targets, it will probably be at the expense of Wayne. But I don't that is going to happen in a big way until next year.

Seems like the same situation as Davante Adams in Green Bay.

Risky start, but could pay off big if the defense goes all out to stop the #1 WR.

Tough call, but I think he's worth a shot at flex this week.

Rotoworld:

Donte Moncrief out-snapped Hakeem Nicks 50-18 in Sunday's win at Cleveland.

We can officially call the fight here -- Moncrief has won the No. 3 wideout job. However, it's discouraging that the freakishly talented rookie saw just four targets on a day Andrew Luck threw 53 passes. Moncrief has garnered exactly four targets in three straight games now, volume that leaves him only in the volatile WR3 range heading into Week 15 against the Texans. However, perhaps Reggie Wayne's multitude of injuries/inept play will lead to a bigger role for Moncrief. He needs to be owned in all competitive formats.

1 catch on 8 targets for Wayne and 3 dropped passes. That tricep is bugging him. Sit down for a game Reg, let Donte shine!
