Donte Stallworth (1 Viewer)

I am trying to figure out what to take of stallworth now with the moss trade. Will he do about the same as predicted before this hapening, less being the #2 guy with moss on the other side, or have his production go up, being moss will be getting most of the attention.

What does everyone think?

Since Stallworth hasn't played a down between signing with the Patriots and the Moss acquisition, I can't say his projections are going down. But honestly, I lock down my first set of projections AFTER the NFL draft [as do most folks] so there's no question Stallworth's 2007 projections will, and should, be lower than they would've if he were competing primarily with Wes Welker, Kelley Washington and Ben Watson for Brady's targets.

Down of course but I also think the projections I see some making on Randy are high as well.
Hey Fruity,What projections are you seeing? Moss was traded to New England two days ago, and I don't know of any 2007 projections being published yet; at least not in our case.

I think they go down, but not much. Brady spreads the ball around plenty, plus no way Stallworth sees any double coverage with Moss in town.
:lmao: What I wonder, though, is whether Moss will supplant Stallworth on some of the deep routes. They can't have both guys running deep on most plays, right?

I think with the addition of Moss, that Stallworth will benefit. He won't face the #1 coverage he was going to without Moss. And the Pats spread the ball around as it is, so he won't really lose a ton of opps to Moss.

I do believe this year the Pats will pass much more, and Tom Brady has a shot at the #1 FF QB spot. (As much as I hate to say that)

People around here pumping him as top 5. Check out the Moss threads. 1200 12, 1500 15 etc.
Ah, gotcha.Well, there's a huge difference between 1,200 yards and 1,500 yards. If healthy, I have trouble seeing how Moss gets any less than 1,200 yards. The 1,500-yard mark would be hard to justify given the Patriots propensity to spread the ball around. Then again, much like Terrell Owens' arrival in Philadelphia; Tom Brady has never had a WR of Randy Moss' caliber to throw to so he could easily target him a lot more than his typical WR1.

its a two edged sword (getting moss & impact on stallworth)...

he is now 2nd best WR on team, but should face fewer (no) double teams...

not that they are comparable talents, but is harrison bad for wayne, holt bad for bruce or fitzgerald bad for boldin?

i could see stallworth getting fewer receptions, but for a higher YPC & similar TDs...

if the team does better, sustains more drives, scores more & specifically more through the air, stallworth could get smaller % of the pie... but if the pie becomes bigger, his numbers could end up being close to a wash (of pre-moss trade projections)...

If healthy is a big key, cause he hasn't been in 3 years. Also key is predicting how many yards you expect Tom Brady to throw for. When you start subtracting yards for Stallworth, Welker, Watson, Thomas, Faulk, Maroney and the 300-400 odd yards he'll throw for to the 4th and 5th WR, 3rd tight end, linebackers etc it becomes very hard to see a huge year even if he's 100% all year.

I have to think the Pats figure out a way to get Stallworth in favorable man on man match-ups over the course of a game and the season. NOBODY playing either LB or S position is going to be able to cover Stallworth, if he is worked into the slot and healthy. The same can be said of Welker. All of those guys have speed to burn. Someone is getting weak man on man each time the Pats roll out a spread formation. Brady will find it. Teams are really going to have their work cut out for them against this offense.

The speed presented by both Moss and Stallworth is mutually beneficial. My feeling is that the two biggest winners of this situation are Maroney and Brady. As far as spreading the ball around, yes, the Pats have done that in the past. Brady, though, has never had a pair of players with that type of measurable talent catching the football for him. (Brown has great heart and team leadership. I am speaking directly to the game speed offered by the new WR.) Somehow, I think Moss gets plenty of looks and he is really going to open up the offense. There are not going to be too many 7-8 man fronts for Maroney this upcoming season. He is in for a very good year..very good year.

As a Lions fan, I can only say it just does not seem fair.

Given the Patriots intense pursuit of new WRs this year [Moss, Stallworth, Washington, Welker], it also stands to reason they plan on throwing to their WRs more often this year. Moss' downside is 1,200 yards IMHO if he's healthy.

There's a reason why no team negotiated with Stallworth when free agency began. Come on guys...

The Stallworth signing comes days after the surfacing of reports that Stallworth has enrolled in the NFL's substance abuse program. If true, this means that any further violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy would cause an automatic four-game suspension for Stallworth.

Stallworth went to a #2 FF WR to a low end #3 WR... infact all the NE receiving option take a hit

He will be spliting the 3rd look w/ Welker after Moss and Watson..

There are going to be games where Stall doesn't even get a look

Up. Wayyyyyyyy up.

Every receiver on the Patriots will set NFL records for receptions, yards, and TD's this year. Tom Brady will throw for eleventy gajillion yards.

Ben Watson looks like he's the benefactor here over Stallworth. They lose Graham (add in those looks), WRs upgraded big time keep the safeties off coverage and play action off the run funnel more production to Watson on the dump offs.

Loves me some Ben Watson. :goodposting:

It's kind of interesting that folks are worried about Randy Moss' health ... Several of his injuries the past 3 years have been due to strange collisions.

Donte Stallworth's career is littered with injury and they have not been the result of contact. Namely he has not figured out how to keep his hamstrings in tact. He has had only one season where he played in all 16 games of a season in his 5 years. IMHO he is much more likely to play a partial season than to Moss.

I see Stallworth with maybe 6 looks a game; at his 50% completion ratio that's 3 catches a game. I'd say he comes through with 50 receptions total.

I think Moss puts the Pats back to being the Pats with Brady spreading it around. Everybody falls very nicely into a role.
