Draft-based Fantasy MMA is Here (1 Viewer)

Fellow FBGs,

I've been working on a project to develop a true fantasy football style game for mixed martial arts. My labor of love is finally ready to be unveiled, albeit on a beta-test basis. May I introduce to you Magnus Warrior (a.k.a. "MagWar").

Until now, the only forms of fantasy MMA have been DFS services like DraftKings, or football-pool style games like MMAplayground. There has never been a game where you draft fighters and hold them exclusively on teams within a league, over the course of a fantasy season - i.e. a game like traditional fantasy football, but applied to MMA.

Why hasn't such a game emerged yet?

Unlike other mainstream sports, MMA doesn’t have a defined season or consistency with regards to scheduling fights for individual fighters. However, MagWar uses a simple rules framework that works within inconsistent MMA scheduling and yet still produces the fantasy game MMA fans have been missing. The rules give successful MMA fighters significant fantasy value regardless of when they fight during the season.

Please do me the favor and take a look to let me know your thoughts and impressions.

You are welcome to join a public league or to create your own private league and invite your friends to join you. Creation of private leagues requires a promo code right now, since we are still in beta. Post a request on this thread if you would like a free promo code. League fees will be waived for any leagues created with promo codes from this thread.

Cheers,

LawFitz

How do I become an affiliate?
Do you mean as an affiliate marketer? Or are you trying to register to create a user league?

(Sorry, your question was a bit vague.)

At this current point in time, we're not doing any affiliate marketing.

However, if you are looking to join or create a league, there are two steps:

1. create a free user account here: https://www.magwar.com/member/Register

2. create a league for your friends to join here: https://www.magwar.com/member/selectleague

You will need this promo code to create the league... 5CyE2tBQafmb.

By using the code above, all league fees will be waived for you and your friends who join your league.

Cheers

^^^ No need to get snarky, bud. Just trying to provide something cool for fans of fantasy sports and MMA.

I created MagWar because nothing like fantasy football existed for MMA and it was a real shame that it didn't.

I'M NOT BEING SNARKY, TIGER.

DO YOU HAVE A MANIFESTO?

yeah... snarky- sorry. man, it's hard doing the all-caps yell thing. Hurts my eyes.

I mistaken assumed you were a brand new poster who's sole purpose was soaking us about your thing. Since you're not, I'll cut back the stupid schtick- I thought promoting this kind of thing ran against Joe's new (and longstanding) manifesto o' down-with-fun? I can't say definitely because I'm not reading that thing.

^^^ I appreciate the candor, thank you.

The honest truth is that I've created a novel type of fantasy MMA - in that it's modeled after fantasy football. And I need people to help us explore the concept on a broader scale than we've done thus far.

No other existing version of fantasy MMA does that. There are two existing types:

1. DraftKings style (daily fantasy services) - just like with DFS for football, this style is based on a single MMA event (or in football's case, as single NFL weekend). This is more akin to traditional gambling that traditional fantasy football. You play in large expanded pools of players, rather than small interpersonal leagues. And you can overlap picks with other managers - i.e. the same player/fighter can be owned by multiple managers. There is no draft, nor exclusivity in selections, nor a season. This is quick-hitter fantasy.

2. MMAPlayground style (pick'em pools) -  these are similar to traditional "football pools." For every MMA event (similar to a weekend of NFL) users pick winners/finish types for all of the fights on the card. It's like picking the games outcomes and then comparing picks to see who got the most right. Football pools make a fine game, but they are not fantasy football.  MagWar vs MMA pick'em pools has the same difference.

I'm a long-time fantasy footballer and the reason I created MagWar was because I wanted the same type of game for MMA. But now I need help taking it to the broader level. We're not trying to sell the game or collect fees from FBG. We just need your collective user input to see how you like it and how you compare it to fantasy football.

FBG community, can you help us out here? It is 100% FREE for you to play.

There are a couple public leagues already set up there; and here are some more promo codes for you to create FREE private leagues:

Is that an acceptable manifesto? :)

given the recent manifesto, I'd say to check in with the mods about how open they are to this kind of thing...
