Anybody know if offensive minded head coaches are more likely to draft an offensive player in the first round? Are defensive minded head coaches more likely to draft a defensive player in the first round? Any stats on this?
Thanks
Interesting question - I think you need to modify it a bit though since the HC is not always the decision maker on draft day.I do think we can distill philosophy from looking at draft pick patterns while the current regimes have been in place. A few I think are true:
Tennessee - Take the best raw athletes that they think translate well and develop them
NE - Very specific ideas about what
types of players fit in their system, and a very shallow draft board
Oakland - SPEED
and mental instability
Philly - OL/DL have priority, don't worry about immediate contribution
Other General questions include: Measurables vs. Game Tape, How important is Character/Leadership (such as putting emphasis on team captains)?, Positions teams never seem to draft too high, One Year Wonders vs Consistency.
I'll try to flesh out my thoughts as the draft gets closer.
