Draftkings Core 4 (1 Viewer)

Always love the bit that Jeff Manns does on Fridays on Sirius with his Core 4 (1QB, 1 RB, 1WR, 1TE) to build your lineups around. With the collective knowledge here I thought it would be fun to see if we had a consensus here in the forum we could come up with.

To clarify it isn't just picking the highest scoring player at each position, you have to take cost/value into consideration and it may just be a great value that then lets you pick between some high price guys you want. For example I am working on mine for the Sunday only slate and I'm starting with Tyler Higbee at TE. Mid Tier price but great opportunity with Kupp out and the defense that was ranked second to last against TE's last season.

I love Dotson from Commanders on FanDuel - cheap ($6100), explosive and seemed to have great rapport with QB all pre-season

Mahomes is pricey but with Kelce back, might pay off. Not sure why Z Moss is a go to, doesn’t get GL work.

So I use the Friday Core 4 as my starting point, sometimes I use all 4, sometimes 3 or this past week I used 2 (Herbert and Ertz) although I did use Jefferson without knowing he had switched to him.. Been playing two $10 single entry double ups and one $3 single entry GPP each week. Week 1 hit both double up, week 2 hit both double ups, week 3 hit both double ups and cashed in the GPP for $10. Happy so far, might start moving one of the $10 double ups to a $25.

Week 6:

Stafford
Bijan
Pittman
Hockenson
I'm using 3 of the 4 (Stafford, Bijan, Pittman), went down to Engram at TE who he also mentioned so I could do a little better else were. Against his advice I am using Mostert, I just see a huge ownership percentage in cash games and on DK the price is too good.

Week 6:

Stafford
Bijan
Pittman
Hockenson
No offense, but you guys might want find a new guy to follow. The top people in the industry all had Mostert as the best RB cash play (which was shown in his 90% ownership in my $10 double today). Bijan wasn’t a horrible play but…

Is this guy just trying to be different?

after 5 profitable weeks, last week was a downer, time to get back on the horse:

Herbert
Gibbs (paid down at RB so he could go after….)
Kupp
Pitts

Week 14:

J. Allen (over pay down option Browning)
Z. Moss (over Bijan or Ekeler)
R. Rice (over Ja’Marr or DJ Moore. Also high on Godwin)
I. Likely

Week 16:

Fields
C. Hubbard
Metcalf
Njoku (Sunday morning update; he has replaced Njoku with McBride)

New Season - one note that the picks are based on FanDuel which now includes SNF in the main slate
Week 1:

Stafford
Walker III
McLaurin
Engram

I went with a lot of...

QB - Goff, Cousins, Herbert
RB - Walker, Kamara
WR - Hill, Lamb, London, Pickens, Pittman, Shakir
TE - McBride, Kincaid

I think that's more than three.

I play mostly 50/50s with a sprinkle of tournaments, so mainly target guys who seem to have high floors.

Basic strategy this week was to get two good RBs, one great TE, one great WR (Lamb or Hill), and then load up on sleeper WRs with good target potential.

Week 1 is always when I go biggest and if I do badly then I slow it down.

Well, these guys were absolutely terrible this week.

Rough day for my entries.

Feels like DFS has gotten harder in the last few years. Maybe that's just me being a fish, but it used to feel like week 1-2 were free money.

It was a war out there today. Even my relatively strong entries weren't strong enough.

Week 1 was a woof. He was way too confident in McLaurin.

Week 2 bounce back - some cheaper plays this week to allow you to pay up at other spots:

QB - Fields
RB - Mason (was Charbonnet, but switched mid-show when CMC was named OUT. “Too much of a chalk pick to go against it”)
WR - Amon-Ra St. Brown (banged up Bucs secondary)
TE - Bowers

I went against the core 4 week and and did well.

I do like the Amon Ra and Mason calls, though I think I like Charbs better. I just can't bring myself to trust Fields, though a running QB is king in these things.

Managed to scrape a small profit this week by the skin of my teeth.

Key picks were Conner, Metcalf, and Dobbins.

Metcalf was a sneaky pick with just 1.9% usage in this contest. I played the martingale with a boom-or-bust player after he was cold in week 1.

I also had Kupp, who was a chalk pick at 67.8%.

The guy who nearly killed me was Courtland Sutton. Thought he was a sneaky pick. 12 targets in week 1. Low price.

He gave me almost nothing. Nearly sunk my team's hopes when all I needed was a few grabs.

I had nobody going in SNF and just barely managed to stay above the line. More points from Diggs or Dell probably sinks my entry. Phew.

Kupp hurt a lot of people but that’s the good thing about a chalk play…if it fails, it fails for most people.

I loved Sutton going into the season with how good Nix looked in preseason but Nix has done a complete 180. I’m avoiding all Denver players until they show me something.

Mason will be another must start chalk play in week 3.

Week 2 went well, could’ve been a little better as both ARSB and Bowers had plays where they were tackled inside the one. Anyway, on to

Week 3

QB - K. Murray
RB - Cam Akers (like Mason last week, chalk pick due to price so low)
WR - Godwin
TE - Bowers

Exactly broke even week 3.

What I got right this week: Barkley, JTaylor, Diontae Johnson, London, Olave, RRice, Panthers DEF

What I got wrong: Jameson Williams (ugh), Josh Jacobs, Trey McBride, Mark Andrews

Had a Taylor/Barkley team that stormed out of the blocks only to be sandbagged by Jameson and Andrews in the afternoon.

Still cashed in that one, but it's frustrating to see your late plays wasting the early momentum with nightmare performances.

I was trash last week, my picks outside of the 4 were horrific. Back on the horse this week….

Week 4

QB - Kyler Murray again
RB - Kyren Williams
WR - K. Shakir
TE - Bowers again

I'm going with a lot of variety this week.

Bravely or foolishly trying Lawrence/Thomas in a couple stacks.

Otherwise have a lot of...

QB - Lamar, Allen
RB - Barkley, Jacobs, Taylor, Robinson
WR - Diggs, Shakir, Flowers, Diontae, Addison, Pickens
TE - Bowers, Kincaid
DEF - Jets, Falcons, Raiders

General strategy was to go big on QB and RB, medium at TE, and look for value at WR.

Targeting high scoring games like BUF/BAL, GB/MIN, WAS/ARI.

It's a war out there right now. Have some competitive entries, but there's nothing worse than when a chalk pick that you didn't take anywhere blows up (Nico Collins, Chuba Hubbard). Gonna need some masterclasses from this BUF/BAL game to turn a profit this week.

Well last week sucked. Can’t miss at QB like that. Week 5:

QB - Fields
RB - Hubbard
WR - A. Cooper (narrow pick over Pittman who they liked if Flacco starts, which hadn’t been decided yet when they made the picks)
TE - Kincaid

I got a lot right this week (Lamar, Burrow, Chase), but missed some big chalky games like Brian Thomas Jr. and Tucker Kraft. Also got hurt by Nico going down injured on a few of my entries. Going to cash a few contests, but probably looking at a loss this week unless Pickens goes nuts tonight.

This DFS stuff is hard. In the big contests, you almost have to get everything right, because there are always some near-perfect entries.

It really helps if you know ownership estimates ahead of time or at least have a good idea what are the chalk plays from the main sites/pros. For example, Tucker Kraft was 66% owned in the DK $25 double up and 73% owned in the DK $10 double up I entered.

Not saying chalk will always hit but sometimes it’s best if you follow the chalk crowd.
