Drive In Movies (1 Viewer)

Someone in the Jungle Book thread posted about a drive in movie theater.  How many FBGs have drive in's near them and do you still go?  The one near me closed about 15 years ago and they put up a Home Depot instead.  I have really fond memories of drive in's from my teen years since you could go there with your boys and booze, cut-up, run around, talk with other people (drinking and driving laws seemed more lax back then...), or you could take a chick and if she agreed to go you know she was down for some fun, what other reason is there to go to the drive in with a gal if you're not going to get some action?

The death of drive in's due to skyrocketing real estate and technological improvements is one of the sad byproducts of our advancing world.  I mean, sure movie theaters movies look and sound great, but getting a handy, or more, is way more difficult to navigate in a movie theater.

There's one about an hour drive away.  My wife and I took our kids to it several years ago so they could experience it once in their life.

It's a sad thing, but I understand the reasons why they died out.  They were such a fun experience as a kid and as a teen.  Cheap family night out.

When I was in high school there were two X-rated drive ins within a few miles.  One you could actually see the screen from an overpass as you drove by!

10ft high bush?  Yes ma'am!

We are blessed to have one about 15 minutes away. We had two until about two years ago. We go a couple times a summer.

This weekends showing: Jungle Book, Zootopia and Ride Along 2.

Used to go as a kid a lot. Didn't start going back til I had kids of my own and what a change. Back in the day (when you put the speaker from the post into your car) you stayed in your car mainly just to go out and get food and to use the facilities. Nowadays once the car parks everybody out! Lawn chairs, coolers, blankets spread out, SUV's back in and open the hatch, footballs, frisbees start flying around, dogs playing....... It's like a big party. It is a lot of fun. Bring the bug spray.

The one closest to my house closed this year to make room for a Sheetz gas station/market.  There is one left in the Pittsburgh area, about 20 minutes from my house.   The next closest is about an hour away.

Brownsville? That's about 20 minutes away for me as well.  We go 1-2 times per year.  Always a fun night.  Kids love it.

Nope.  The Dependable Drive-In in Moon is the one that's about 20 minutes away from me.     Been around since the 50s.  In the mid to late 70s they switched to porn but they switched back at least 20 years ago.

I would like to take my grandkids but they're still a little young (4, 2 and infant)

We have one about 5 miles from us.  It seems that most people go and park their vehicles the opposite direction and open up SUV hatch or lay down in the back of their pick-ups.

We have only gone maybe 3 times in the past 5 years, but they have a solid concession area.

there's still one in the ghetto that I haven't been to in like 25 years...no idea what that one's like now

there is an Ice Arena nearby that turns it's parking lot into a drive in during the summer...3 screens and audio through car radio.  we've gone a few times...usually end up leaving after the first feature though since the kids are pretty tired by then

I take my kids once a year, but they're usually in the back watching a movie on their kindles.   Actually, we never go but I could see it playing out that way.

Brought the kids a few times when they were younger for the experience.  But, I have little desire to go back.  I can barely stand watching a movie in a theater with people checking the cell phone, talking, etc.  Throw in people walking around, cars turning on and off, poor sound, windows fogging up, etc, no way.  I'll take my recliner and watch at home any day of the week over that.

Never understood how car ride handies are managed.  Like, do you just aim for the ashtray?  Or does it turn into a blue dot gulp?

None anywhere really close to Philly.  Last time went to the drive in was almost 14 years ago visiting friends in the middle of the state.  They were showing a Signs/Country Bear double feature.  Pretty sure we watched Signs and then just drank during the kids movie.  Really it was just hanging in the back of a pickup talking.  Not much in the way of movie watching.

Would take the kids for the experience if there were any near here.

There is one drive-in left in metro Detroit (the Ford-Wyoming drive-in). It has 9 or 10 screens. Other than that I don't think there is one within 100 miles of here. The ones that used to be here have all been gone a good 20-25 years and none were anywhere near the size of this place.

I mentioned Drive In movies in the other thread and we are taking the Grandkids Saturday Night to see Jungle Book and Zootopia.

Can't wait.

The closest one is probably the Delsea Drive In in Vineland. Went last year with the family and some friends and had a good time. $10 a person for a double feature is a great deal except most kids won't make it through the second movie.

There are two in greater Cincinnati.  We try to take to the kids at least once a year.  Very nostalgic for me.

The later is always the hope, however if she wasn't down for that, they'd usually try to play catcher as well as possible.
