Maybe the concussion is worse than we thought.Yeah the big news to come out is that he actually went to FSU.

Duke Johnson (concussion) was held out of Browns practice Monday.
His status for Week 1 against the Jets is uncertain. The Browns currently have just two running backs available on their 53-man roster: Johnson and starter Isaiah Crowell. They're likely going to add another one before week's end.

I hate to admit it but it's starting to feel that way to me too. I don't know what the minimum time to be in a concussion protocol is in the NFL these days but this seems like a long time. The potential is there for a Jahvid Best type career.
ya, it's a marathon not a sprint and I didn't anticipate that he'd take over week 1. The field has certainly cleared and they don't seem to love Crowell, they've raved about Johnson and the big plans and the mismatches he creates so that's all great because the opportunity appears to be there but he obviously needs to be on the field. Concussions are scary and unpredictable things and if you aren't out of the protocol quickly it's a concern. The fact that it's been a week and half and he's still in is definitely not good but he could be cleared tomorrow and it's all systems go. Have to wait and see how things shake out.Still think he's worth holding for a couple weeks to see what happens
Worth holding for 4 weeks. Duke is a baller. He will take the job and run as soon as he is healthy. Injuries like a hammy or a concussion......all over the league. His talent is big time.Still think he's worth holding for a couple weeks to see what happens
Mind telling me where you've heard this information? The field has certainly cleared and they don't seem to love Crowell, they've raved about Johnson and the big plans and the mismatches he creates so that's all great because the opportunity appears to be there but he obviously needs to be on the field.
You mean to tell me you think your team does not have big plans for Duke? If you watched him at all at UM during his career your toes would be tingling.Mind telling me where you've heard this information? The field has certainly cleared and they don't seem to love Crowell, they've raved about Johnson and the big plans and the mismatches he creates so that's all great because the opportunity appears to be there but he obviously needs to be on the field.

among other chatter....that and the fact that they rotated the backs all last year and then went out and drafted Duke relatively early. Similary, they've ooozed all offseason when talking about Johnson at OTAs and when he's been on the field.
I know you're a huge Crow fan so I'm not going to change your mind but I try and read situations and how they are gonna shake out and you've planted your flag and think that Crowell is the man while I think he's vulnerable. We'll see what happens.
That article is from August 9th. One could easily argue that cutting West is an indication that Crowell has did what Wilbert was looking for.http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/08/browns_rb_wilbert_montgomery_o.htmlMind telling me where you've heard this information? The field has certainly cleared and they don't seem to love Crowell, they've raved about Johnson and the big plans and the mismatches he creates so that's all great because the opportunity appears to be there but he obviously needs to be on the field.

I know, I've heard Bloom and Waldman rave about him last year and I grabbed him as a result and he helped me last year. Watched every snap last year and ended up trading him in the offseason.Did you watch Crowell in college? You mean to tell me you think your team does not have big plans for Duke? There are more than a few, inc FBG staffers, who thought he was the best runner in the draft... the character concerns killed him
Much easier to argue that they cut him because they didn't think West was very good and completely independent from their feelings toward Crowell or DukeThat article is from August 9th. show me anything very positive about Crow. I've been scouring all draft prep season. This is one of the situations I was most interested in all offseason. I want guys with a buzz and some game changing ability and from the beat writers and the staff it's been very muted on Crow. Right now it certainly looks good for Crow but last year Tate was the guy with West pushing for time. Then they fail and Crow gets inserted and it becomes musical chairs to some extent for the rest of the season with no one taking the job and running with it. Then you hear the same thing from the coach in the offseason. That article is from August 9th. Tougher to argue that point of view when the move left them with only two RBs and one of those is still in the concussion protocol likely forcing them to promote a guy from the practice squad.Much easier to argue that they cut him because they didn't think West was very good and completely independent from their feelings toward Crowell or DukeThat article is from August 9th. I did and if Johnson gets on the field he'll be able to run with Mack in the lineup as well.If you saw Crowell run w Mack in the lineup, you know what he's capable of.
Hopefully he does what he can do. The discussion will end then. He drops the ball a few times, it's game voer
They cut West leaving Crow as the only healthy RB going into week 1. Y'know actions speak louder than words and all that.show me anything very positive about Crow. Wouldnt be all that mad if Duke comes in and runs the show... If he helps the team, awesome.I did and if Johnson gets on the field he'll be able to run with Mack in the lineup as well.If you saw Crowell run w Mack in the lineup, you know what he's capable of.

and those situations can change fast when/if the guy the writers and the staff has actually raved about gets healthy. This RB situation changed probably 6 times last year. I fully expect that they will sign someone because it's absolutely idiotic for them have one RB on the roster for an NFL game. Even 2 is stupid knowing how RBs get injured. They cut West leaving Crow as the only healthy RB going into week 1. Y'know actions speak louder than words and all that.show me anything very positive about Crow. I've been scouring all draft prep season. I could definitely see that happen. Heck I could see it happen even if they do have a lot of success running the ball week 1. Sign him after week 1 so they don't have to guarantee his salary and have a dependable backup and potential starter if necessary.Unless Cleveland has a lot of success running the ball week 1, Rice will be signed and in line for the starting job by this time next week.
I think the recent news of the OL coach domestic assault will prevent this from happening. I cannot see the organization following that up with the scrutiny of Rice.Unless Cleveland has a lot of success running the ball week 1, Rice will be signed and in line for the starting job by this time next week.
I think he can do it too and it wouldn't shock me if Crowell had a fine year. I like to target players that are good receivers and can possibly play a 3 down role. Based on all the good news and positive vibes and the fact that he'd likely be a 3rd down back and they were lining him up all over the formation to get the ball into his hands made me look harder at Johnson. I think Crow has a more likely chance of success but see Johnson as having a higher potential ceiling if he hits which is why I've chosen him as my 4th RB.Wouldnt be all that mad if Duke comes in and runs the show... Fantasy purposes... I know what Crow can do... I think he can do it behind a solid Oline... The passing game and fumbles are what could kill him... duke... or anyone else who comes in there
I don't see it that way at all. Think it's just an indictment against West rather than endorsement for the Browns RBs but hey we can agree to disagreeTougher to argue that point of view when the move left them with only two RBs and one of those is still in the concussion protocol likely forcing them to promote a guy from the practice squad. No, dealing West was an endorsement for all the remaining RBs on the Cle roster, particularly Crow.Much easier to argue that they cut him because they didn't think West was very good and completely independent from their feelings toward Crowell or DukeThat article is from August 9th. I agree with this. If healthy, Duke will get a lot of run due to his passing game chops and Crowell's lack thereof. With his potential as a 3-down RB, Crowell's flaws/ penchant for fumbling, and the lack of RB depth on the roster, I think he's got a great risk/ reward profile in PPR.I think he can do it too and it wouldn't shock me if Crowell had a fine year. Sure if he's the bellcow that gets all the carries he's going to have a great yearI know it's silly to do...
But if Crowell was given "3 down back" work last season, and we "could" extrapolate his numbers of 148/607/8 to 296/1214/16
Odds are the TDs wouldnt have been that high, but if Mack had stayed healthy, his rush yds likely would have been better than the 4.1ypc he had.
Honestly, if given about 250-280 carries, I dont see 1200-1300/10 being all that farfetched behind that line.
Yeah, you can be the worst starting RB in the NFL but if you get 250+ carries you will have a good fantasy season. It's getting 250+ carries that will be the difficult part.Banger said:Sure if he's the bellcow that gets all the carries he's going to have a great yearSoulfly3 said:I know it's silly to do...

I know it has nothing to do with this, but "worst starting RB" made me think of Richardson and I guess he was a Brown at one point. Shockingly, with the 316 carries he had with the Colts in 2013/2014 he had 977 yards and 6 TDs, so I guess you can have 300+ carries and not have a good fantasy season if you are the worst starting RB in the NFL.Yeah, you can be the worst starting RB in the NFL but if you get 250+ carries you will have a good fantasy season. #Browns Pettine said no reason to think Duke Johnson won't have a significant role in the game
apparently ran the same offense in MiamiSounds like coachspeak to try and play w the Jets' head a little.
Guy hasnt sniffed the field in how long now, is a rookie, and he's gonna full steam? Doubtful
not the point. guy JUST cleared protocol today, meaning he hasnt seen the field since he got hurt... and he's a rookie.apparently ran the same offense in MiamiSounds like coachspeak to try and play w the Jets' head a little.

you don't throw him in for 20 touches at this point, when you have a healthy and very capable Crowell on the team.
I say this as a Browns fan. Im not even starting Crowell, so it's not that.
I can see 20 or so touches for Crow in a game where both passing offenses will mostly stink... and maybe Duke gets 5-10
CLE should be pretty run heavy.. plus whatever catches the 2 guys get
