A buddy and I watched Dumb and Dumber, Happy Gilmore, and Billy Madison about a billion times in middle school. I think I touched my first female genitals during this movie.
Talk about two movies that don't deserve to be in the discussion.
I wasn't putting them in the conversation, but those movies were hilarious to me when i was in 6th and 7th grade.
And they're still funny now. They're a younger generations AH or Caddyshack. Everybody here will disagree but most people between the ages of 25-35 think those two Sandler movies are all time classic comedies. Most of you guys are just old.
No, Sandler just sucks.
How old are you?

Younger than Sandler.

If Dumb and Dumber is better than Kingpin, it's just barely.

94 - Dumber and Dumber, 96 - Kingpin, 98 - Something About Mary. Not a bad four year stretch.

Kingpin is their best, IMO.
In Dumber and Dumber Jim Carrey was at his peak and Daniels gave one of the best comedic performances ever. Which is strange to me because I don't think of Jeff Daniels as a comedic actor.

Neither of them have the presence of 20 minutes worth of Bill Murray in Kingpin. Woody Harrelson played a sad sack as hilariously as possible. It feels less polished in a good way, the gags are more twisted and played up. It's such a bizarre premise and combination of actors that somehow clicks perfectly.

Used to demo DVD back when the technology hadn't become mainstream and had the rights to show some movies. Nothing will sour you on a movie more than looping it at a trade show for 4 days straight. Dumb and Dumber is the only exception. Bought the movie even after seeing it a zillion times.

I was unaware this movie was so polarizing. Saw it in the theater, and was a huge fan of Jim Carrey.

Will re-watch.

E.T.A.: I thought it was funny at the time, but I gave it a 7.

wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?
Hilarious
I remember reading somewhere that Jim Carrey improv'ed that part of the movie, and that the reaction of the guy yelling at him was completely genuine. Makes it even funnier for me.

it was- you can tell that Daniels has a look of wtf too and they cut from him just before he loses it.

Gave it a 4 on the Joe T scale.

Is in the same range as Cabin Boy and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

Slightly above City Slickers 2: The Legend of Curly's Gold. Slightly below Hot Shots and Black Sheep.

Love both of these, but this is awful shtick

You are confusing schtick with humor. Though in this case, he lacks both.

Your scale sucks.

not schtick.
While the type of humor may be similar with D&D and Cabin Boy, RH:Men in Tights, the latter are like 2nd graders while D&D is about to graduate from multiple colleges.

I'm in my mid 40s. D n D comes after the classics already mentioned (AH,CS,Airplane) as well as Kingpin and the Mel Brooks classics Blazing Saddles and History of the World. I also prefer the Monty Python movies. Oh and The Jerk for sure...and maybe a couple other Steve Martin movies as well. Should put Blues Brothers ahead of it also.

Funny movie but doesn't make my top 10 all time.

Bo Ryan about not watching the KY/Wisc game again: "I take that back. I've watched Dumb and Dumber 20 times. I might watch it 21 times."

Nice critique from a great coach.

It's a 10 easily. When a movie makes you laugh all the way through it 15 years later after seeing it 20 times, it is in a very elite class of comedy.

As a 30 year old, this might be the funniest movie I can remember.
You don't get out much, do you?Airplane, Caddyshack, Animal House >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> D&D
This is what I'm talking about. It's a clear step below the classics (including Blazing Saddles).
Oh come on, Airplane in particular is so overrated. Watch it now, it's about as funny as a network comedy.
Wrong. The overrated one in that trio is Animal House.
