If the major networks would start hiring announcers and reporters and stop hiring incomprehensible clowns like Tony Siragusa and Keyshawn Johnson, the games would be a lot more pleasant on the ear.
Personally, I think many of the in the booth people do OK jobs, to include Al and John, but none excel in a way that past announcers have excelled or in a way that past radio announcers excel.
The truth is, Howard Cosell could announce this sorry crop of neverwillbes into the dirt any day of the week and thrice on Monday. He was very smart, articulate, insightful and never played a down in his life. He was a professional, good at what he did. Today, without any training of any kind, the networks will stick someone like John Lynch into the booth strictly because he "played the game." Cosell called that a jockocracy, which is what the broadcast booth is these days and the listeners suffer as a result.
Unfortunately, a whole generation of people have grown up not knowing what a good sports broadcaster sounds like.
Listen to the great radio broadcasters of days gone by. Larry Munson or Johnny Most. Those guys were great in a way that Al Michaels never will be.

That's because most everything that Kornheiser says is asinine. It would be different if he was just controversial, but he isn't even that. His way of propping Brees was to say Brees was completeing passes to guys the Saints found on the street a few weeks ago. WTF was that?I think Jaws has a serious dislike for him and his retorts are sometimes kinda cold. But I understand where Jaws is coming from.
I love listening to Madden.
100% agree with this. The close-ups of his face are pretty scary, but he is extremely insightful in his commentary.

I don't really have a problem with Kornheiser, certainly not to the point of muting a game. I'm glad they stopped doing the in-game guests in the booth, although it was ok a couple times, it was mostly an annoying disaster.
I have really liked Collinsworth and Papa(?) on the Thursday Night games.
If I had to pick a favorite group it'd probably be Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker. Johnson's excitability and Tasker's knowledge are an excellent combo. Of course, they are like the D-team for CBS and always seem to be doing Chiefs games or something like that.
