Dustin Keller, Ranked kind of low? (1 Viewer)

KellysHeroes

FBG has him at TE18 and thats actually high compared to a couple of other sites; I see him having a nice yr in Mia with Wallace taking all the coverage and DK is a good seem stretcher. Am I missing something?

Does seem low for a guy who was top-10 in 2010 and 2011.

I know that Keller draws absolutely no interest in trade talks. It's weird.

He signed a 1 year contract, so for those who subscribe to that theory, he should be plenty motivated to have a productive season.

I like him heading into next year, he won't suddenly breakout but should be a solid TE in PPR leagues. My only concern is that if he'll receive enough targets or asked to block. The talent is definitely there for him to put up some nice numbers. I loved the signing for Miami and IMO Keller could have been an upgrade for quite a few teams.

Yeah, he was a top ten TE with buttfumbler throwing to him. I'd expect him to be solidly in the top fifteen with a better QB and the weapons Miami has to spread the field.

These are rankings from another site

1 Rob Gronkowski NE 23

2 Jimmy Graham NO 26

3 Aaron Hernandez NE 23

4 Jason Witten DAL 30

5 Kyle Rudolph MIN 23

6 Vernon Davis SF 29

7 Jermaine Gresham CIN 24

8 Dennis Pitta BAL 27

9 Brandon Pettigrew DET 28

10 Greg Olsen CAR 28

11 Jermichael Finley GB 25

12 Martellus Bennett CHI 26

13 Fred Davis WSH 27

14 Jared Cook STL 25

15 Owen Daniels HOU 30

16 Dwayne Allen IND 23

17 Tony Gonzalez ATL 37

18 Brent Celek PHI 28

19 Coby Fleener IND 24

20 Antonio Gates SD 32

21 Rob Housler ARI 25

22 Heath Miller PIT 30

23 Brandon Myers NYG 27

24 Dustin Keller MIA 28

I'm pretty sure Keller should be drafted over the likes of Pettigrew / Myers / Miller / Celek / Gates (hes done) and maybe Housler unless your sure RH is going to breakout

Pardon me for not getting too excited about a 29 yo TE who will be solidly in the top 15.

I'd prefer Pettigrew over him and see him as on par with Myers but I'd prefer him easily over those other guys. I've been big on Housler breaking out for awhile and still like him but Arians does not run a TE heavy offense historically so that has me down on his breakout potential. I traded Kellers straight up for Owen Daniels in a 1.5 PPR TE league in hopes Keller would land in ATL(if Gonzo left), Chicago or Cleveland. I considered those the 3 best landing spots but I still like where he landed and I'd still do that trade over again today so there is an example of where I'd rather have the guy ranked #24 than the guy ranked #15.Still I don't get worked up over his low rankings. You have the big 3 who stand alone in a class by themselves as they are young and productive. You have Witten who is a older but productive and IMO in a tier by himself at #4. Than you have guys like Gonzo is a rock solid top 5 redraft but considering he's only got 1-2 years left in Dynasty I'm not sure where to put him. After that it's a massive crapshoot. Taking the 5 aforementioned TE's out of the equation and just looking at next years production I don't see a big difference between the next TE I'd have on my rankings and the TE I'd rank 10 spots lower. You have some massive upside guys like Cook, Vernon, Finley who have the potential to put some separation between them and the next tier but based on how I'd rank them now I just don't see a big difference. So I think Keller can flirt with TE1 status and possibly ascend into top 8 level but if I'm ranking him for Dynasty he's not in my top 15, probably somewhere between 16-20 and those rankings would be pretty similar to redraft as well. When I know the landing spot for some of the rookies he will likely drop some more but expectations for rookie TE production seem pretty slim to me next year. Besides the fact rookie TE's rarely produce the FA moves so far might have drastically negatively impacted the perceived value of some of the rookie TE's. I still think for instance ATL would be willing to spend a first or second rounder on a TE who will be buried behind Tony G for a year or two. I think the 49'ers, with all their picks and losing Walker select a TE early. Will be hard to get excited about whoever they pick considering he'll be playing second fiddle behind a more talented TE they are already under-utilizing. More than any other skill position the TE production seems more scheme related than talent related. I've been saying for years that Heath Miller was every bit the receiver that Whitten is but rarely was he ever asked to perform that role. To me Myers is nothing remotely special as a talent but he had a big year simply because of the scheme. Vernon Davis might the biggest mismatch TE in the league and he only got about 4 targets a game. After the big 4 or 5 you know are actively involved in their teams gameplan on a consistent level it really becomes a big crapshoot and I don't think you are betting on the talent so much as you are betting on the scheme.
