Everett Golson - QB - Seminoles

Florida State "provides an excellent opportunity" for graduate QB Everett Golson to "get back on track and improve his draft stock," wrote ESPN's Steve Muensch.

There's plenty of work to be done, as Muench passed along that colleague Kevin Weidl gave Golson a mid-to-late Day 3 range before his season imploded in November (at which point he wasn't draftable). The 6-foot tall Golson must get better at finding throwing windows (balls are frequently tipped at the line), taking care of the ball (his 22 giveaways led Power 5 conferences), improve his footwork and be more patient with his progressions. Golson has a big arm, however, and shows tremendous potential when he sets his feet. Next season, he'll face a typically soft FSU schedule and will enjoy an outstanding supporting cast led by Dalvin Cook, Travis Rudolph, Jesus Wilson, Kermit Whitfield, Ermon Lane and George Campbell. "If he can improve at winning from the pocket by going through his progressions and throwing with proper mechanics, he could once again emerge as a potential NFL prospect at QB," Muench wrote.

Miller is an extremely interesting case as a graduate student on a loaded depth chart who didn't take an opportunity to transfer elsewhere for his final season of eligibility. Instead, Miller will compete against J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones for the starting QB job, a competition he is not favored to win.

Joyner thinks Perkins is one of the best running backs in the nation. It's hard to argue. Perkins finished No. 4 nationally with 1,477 rushing yards last year, ranking No. 3 with 43 rushes of 10 or more yards. "He will be the centerpiece of this offense," wrote Joyner.

Penn State junior QB Christian Hackenberg "will have to put the sophomore slump behind him" in 2015, observes NFL Media.

The 6-foot-4, 236-pounder threw for 2,995 yards and 20 touchdowns as a true freshman for then-Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien in 2013, but regressed to a 12/15 TD/INT rate last season under James Franklin. New systems can lead to significant growing pains; in the case of Hackenberg, it also led to excuses for his play. To be fair, as NFL Media put it, Hackenberg was playing "with a rag-tag offensive line and a number of young receivers." The headaches are gone, the growing pains have been accounted for, and the excuses will lose validity if corrections aren't made in 2015. Specifically, Hackenberg needs to handle pressure more effectively in the pocket.

The site compares Cook to Matt Ryan. "The senior is primed for a run at the College Football Playoff, supported by a stout defense, as long as the new weapons around him on offense are able to make their share of big plays," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Chase Goodbread. "In Mark Dantonio's balanced offense, he won't have the stats of some other Heisman Trophy-contending quarterbacks, but as long as Michigan State has a zero in the loss column, he'll be in the conversation." The 6-foot-4, 218-pound Cook averaged 247 passing yards per game last year and posted a 24/8 TD/INT rate.

"Conner is a big, powerful rusher, but slips through holes and runs with defensive backs like a much smaller running back," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Chase Goodbread. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound Conner rushed for 1,765 yards and scored 26 touchdowns last season and was named an All-American. He jumped over 200 yards on multiple occasions and will do so again in 2015.

"The fifth-year veteran not only chose to stay in college instead of jumping to the NFL draft, but tried to convince the Trojans' top underclassmen to do the same," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Chase Goodbread. "Look for Kessler to challenge for the Heisman, as long as the USC defense is improved enough to keep the team in Pac-12 contention." The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Kessler threw for 3,826 yards with a 39/5 TD/INT ratio last year. He wasn't picked off more than once in any game.

The site ranks Pittsburgh junior WR Tyler Boyd as the No. 1 receiver, placing Treadwell No. 2. Most rank Treadwell No. 1. Treadwell posted 72 receptions for 608 yards with five scores as a true freshman in 2013. The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder had 48 receptions for 632 yards and five scores last season before his gruesome ankle injury.

Prescott threw for 3,449 yards on 61 percent completions with a 27/11 TD/INT ratio and rushed for 986 yards and 14 scores last season. He's an early Heisman frontrunner.

"Williams is a raw receiver, as one could expect given his lack of experience. He needs to improve his route-running and hands," reads his scouting report. "Williams dropped some passes deep downfield that could have gone for big plays." Duke had 45 receptions for 730 yards (16 yards per catch) with five touchdowns in only 10 games last year. The 6-foot-2, 224-pounder is graded currently as a Rds. 1-2 prospect.

Pittsburgh junior WR Tyler Boyd is the No. 1 receiver in the country, according to Walter Football.

Most rank Laquan Treadwell No. 1 at the moment. "Boyd has enough speed to get separation with a burst to rip off yards after the catch," reads his scouting report. "He runs good routes, is very physical, has reliable hands, tracks the bell extremely well, makes acrobatic catches and out-fights defensive backs for 50-50 balls." In his true freshman season in 2013, Boyd hauled in 85 passes for 1,174 yards and seven touchdowns. Last year, he hauled in 78 receptions for 1,261 yards and eight scores. Walter Football calls him a surefire first-rounder.

The 6-foot-3, 227-pound Engran needs to bulk up, but he's got at least one more year to do so. He has outstanding receiving tools. Scout Inc.'s Steve Muench compares him to former Gator TE Jordan Reed: "He has soft hands, he catches away from his frame, and he doesn't have to break stride to bring it in. He also has the speed to make plays down the seam and enough agility to produce after the catch."

SB Nation's Dan Kadar reports that Michigan State senior QB Connor Cook "would have been on the fringe" of the first round had he entered the 2015 NFL Draft.

Many believe that Cook would have been a Round 1 lock, so this is an interesting dispatch. "He's a good player, but maybe not great in any particular area," Kadar wrote. "He also suffers from bouts of inconsistency and will miss on too many throws. Cook has a career completion percentage of 58.3, a number that will have to get higher." Cook is the No. 3 prospect in the Big Ten, according to the Big Ten Network's Sean Merriman. CBS Sports grades Cook as the No. 1 QB prospect in the nation and the prospect slotted No. 2 to the Browns in Todd McShay's 2016 mock draft.

"He's a player to watch who could really rise throughout the season," wrote Kadar. You know we agree. NFL Media notes that Stanford redshirt junior QB Kevin Hogan "was part of the reason the Stanford offense struggled [in 2014], as he took far more sacks than usual and came up short in a number of losses."

It must be noted that Hogan's father passed away in December after losing a battle to cancer, a devastating situation which affected Hogan last season. "The senior started to turn things around late in the year and Stanford is hoping he can continue to bounce back in 2015," Bryan Fischer wrote. Hogan was lost in the pocket early last season, but looked like a top-flight prospect again in season-ending blowout wins over UCLA and Maryland.

Utah senior RB Devontae Booker easily led the Pac-12 in run yards after contact with 815 last season.

"That speaks to toughness," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "It’s not an exact science or an exact way to measure it, but it certainly gives you a good idea of who’s capable of taking a hit and continuing to take the football up the field for you." UCLA's Paul Perkins finished second by about 200 post-contact yards. "Anyone can get blocked yardage. Blocked yardage, I can do it," Whittingham said. "But the real barometer, in my opinion, or one of the main barometers in judging a running back is yards after contact." Booker was "without a doubt" the offensive MVP, the coach said. "Devontae was making those yards with defenses loading the box up and expecting him to run the football," Whittingham said. Booker is a Heisman candidate and a Day 2 prospect heading into the campaign.

"Golson's turnover issues were a lethal combination of carelessness and bad luck. I wrote about it earlier this month on CSN, but to sum it up: Had Golson had neutral luck, he would've thrown about five fewer interceptions and had two fewer lost fumbles. But looking back, the carelessness began in Notre Dame's 4th game -- an easy win over Syracuse -- in which he had four turnovers," Stankevitz told the Orlando Sentinel. The former Notre Dame signal caller was a turnover machine in 2014, as he threw 14 interceptions and lost 8 of 12 fumbles, which eventually lead to him losing the starting job to QB Malik Zaire.

Golson, of course, has been brought in to replace Jameis Winston. "While Golson played in a spread attack at Notre Dame, he should adapt easily to FSU's pro-style attack," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Mike Huguenin. "Golson is mobile, but his arm (and not his legs) is his biggest strength, which isn't always the case with spread quarterbacks. He does have a propensity for turnovers (14 picks last season) and needs to stay calm in the pocket." Golson actually threw for four more scores than Winston last year (29 to 25). He will have a better supporting cast with the Seminoles than he did with the Irish.

"The senior has physical gifts but has yet to show he can make it through a season without injury," Katz wrote. "If he does perform to what many feel is a wealth of potential, his stock could rise in a hurry." Madden's grandfather is former Los Angeles Rams RB Lawrence McCutcheon. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Madden ran for 703 yards and three touchdowns last season. After beginning the season with six straight games over 90 yards, he didn't crack 60 again and missed three games.

Vannett, who shared playing time with Jeff Heuerman last year, posted 19 receptions for 220 yards with five touchdowns in 2014. "Those are good numbers for a ground-based offense," the site noted. "With other tight ends off to the NFL, Vannett could be the every-down starter for the Buckeyes in 2015. Some would like to see Miller turned into a sort of slash player, but he's good enough, as a former Heisman contender, to win the job outright. "But Miller has a longer track record than either of them and will fight like crazy to avoid getting Wally Pipped. Let the best man win. "He has to improve his receiving ability for the NFL, but he looks like a bell-cow back capable of carrying a heavy work load." As a sophomore, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound Conner rushed for 1,765 yards, averaged six yards per carry and scored 26 touchdowns. To WF's earlier point, he had only five receptions for 70 yards. The site ranks Foster as the No. 6 draft-eligible RB prospect and gives him a Rds. 2-4 projection. "While he has been a quality runner for Arizona State, his receiving skills will get NFL teams really excited," WF noted. To wit, the 5-foot-11, 203-pound Foster had 1,081 rushing yards and 688 receiving yards on 62 catches last year. This season, he's been quasi-moved from RB to offensive weapon, with the school promising he'll be played at every single skill position. "At the very least, he could have a role as a third-down back," concluded WR.

Louisiana Tech senior RB Kenneth Dixon "is a compactly built shifty runner with good balance, but he probably won't get a lot of yards after contact in the NFL," according to Walter Football.

Dixon has been dominant since stepping onto campus. He tallied 1,194 rushing yards on 6.0 yards per carry in 2012 and 917 yards on 6.1 YPC in 2013 while struggling with injuries. Last year, he recorded 1,299 yards (5.1 YPC average) with 22 touchdowns. WF ranks Dixon as the No. 8 draft-eligible RB prospect and gives him a Rds. 3-4 projection.

Scouts Inc.'s Kevin Weidl called attention to USC redshirt senior QB Cody Kessler's "excellent pocket presence."

Weidl first pointed out a few negatives, saying Kessler has physical limitations and could improve his deep accuracy and mechanics. If those cannot be improved, however, at least Kessler can rely on his pocket management. "Kessler feels pressure naturally and eyes are constantly scanning the field while rush avoiding. Like his poise in these situations," Weidl tweeted. We would have ranked Kessler as the third quarterback in the 2015 class if he had declared. Functional mobility is one of his greatest strengths, as is recognizing the open receiver and getting the ball to them in proper timing.

Howard, who runs a 4.59 second forty, benches 405 pounds and squats 500 pounds, posted more than 110 knockdown blocks over the past two years.

Washington State senior WR Dom Williams "turned heads this spring" and "looks like a lock to be among the Pac-12’s statistical leaders," writes ESPN's David Lombardi.

With Vince Mayle in the NFL, Williams is now the go-to receiver in Mike Leach's offense, making the prediction less brave than it may sound on the surface. Williams has contributed in a big way to the offense in each of his three years on campus. Last season was his best, and he posted 43 catches for 653 yards and nine scores. Expect those numbers to spike in 2015.

NFL Media ranks Tennessee junior QB Joshua Dobbs No. 6 on its list of "10 breakout players on verge of stardom."

"The junior essentially rescued a UT season from non-bowl to bowl-eligible, helping Tennessee win its final four SEC games for the necessary six wins after sitting the first seven games," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Chase Goodbread. "With wide receiver Marquez North healthy again, Dobbs will also have a gifted target that was available to him in only one game last year (Alabama)." Dobbs was named the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl MVP and was also on the 2014 SEC Academic Honor Roll. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound quarterback threw for 1,206 yards with a 9/6 TD/INT rate on 63-percent completions last year. He's lethal outside of the pocket, averaging 78.2 rushing yards per game in his six 2014 appearances.
