[Dynasty] 2016 Draft Class (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Ohio State graduate Braxton Miller has been added to the Senior Bowl watch list as a wide receiver.

While the Buckeyes' wideout will mostly be utilized in a hybrid role this season, Miller's versatile skill-set could be on full display at the Senior Bowl, if he accepts his invitation. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Miller has the ideal size and athleticism that NFL scouts look for at the next level. The Buckeye prospect will most likely carve out a Percy Harvin/Aaron Hernandez type role in Urban Meyer's offense this season.

Michael Thomas - WR - Buckeyes

Ohio State redshirt junior Michael Thomas saw 57 of his 68 targets within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage in 2014.

In other words, Thomas was the school's possession receiver with Devin Smith acting as the vertical threat. This role was known, but the figures really put it into perspective. The Buckeyes lost their downfield threat, which opened up defenses when combined with Cardale Jones' arm. The big question is if Ohio State thinks they can replace Smith's skills. If not, they might go with a more efficient, tighter approach focused on Ezekiel Elliott and Thomas' run after catch, with J.T. Barrett at the helm.

Rotoworld:

Rutgers HC Kyle Flood said that junior WR Janarion Grant had only dropped one pass during training camp, a sign that he's working on his hands.

Butterfingers have been a problem for Grant, who caught 25 passes for 312 yards last season. Scarlet Knights beat writer Dan Duggan called the 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior "arguably [the team's] most dangerous player with the ball in his hands" while fellow wideout Leonte Carroo said the team needs Grant to touch the ball "at least 10 times [per game]." The receiver is also a return stud and was named named to the Preseason Fourth Team All-America by Phil Steele in June.

Rotoworld:

Auburn HC Gus Malzahn sees junior QB Jeremy Johnson as having an "NFL arm."

Several days ago, CBS Sports analyst Dane Brugler compared Johnson's potential to that of Cam Newton, praising the 6-foot-5, 240-pound quarterback's physical abilities. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said, "He's got confidence, which is good and he has high expectations for himself." Confident indeed: In the spring, Johnson set a goal of 3,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing this season, something that's only been done by five other quarterbacks in NCAA history. It's difficult to compare anybody to Cam Newton, who exploded into the NFL with ease, but at the very least, Johnson's a far more interesting draft prospect than Nick Marshall.

NFL Media analyst Chad Reuter noted that Western Kentucky redshirt senior QB Brandon Doughty has "the quick feet, fast delivery, and no-fear mentality that a successful NFL quarterback needs."

Last season, Doughty completed 67.9% of his passes for 4,830 yards and 49 touchdowns, against just 10 interceptions. The numbers are gaudy, though as analyst Reuter pointed out, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound gunslinger lacks the big arm typically associated with pro quarterbacks. Reuter likes his feet and delivery, though, and believes that if he's able to cope with the complexities of an NFL playbook Doughty "should at least be a long-time backup, and maybe more."

Rotoworld:

Washington State senior WR Dom Williams "is a smallish receiver who could slide into the late rounds based on his return skills," TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline notes.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Williams averaged 15.3 yards-per-catch, and was fifth on team in receptions (43), recording 656 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns last season. The Cougars will look to Williams as their go-to-guy in their passing game, as he should see an increased number of targets with Vince Mayle out of the picture.

Rotoworld:

California redshirt junior WR Kenny Lawler "has a good degree of upside" according to TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.

Pauline specifically cited Lawler as a "nice-sized target." The junior stands 6-foot-3, 195 pounds. CBS Sports analyst Rob Rang has also previously noted the receiver's build and ability to make the "spectacular catch." A year ago, Lawler caught 54 passes for 701 yards and nine touchdowns. He'll need to supplement his obvious physical tools with improved route-running in his junior campaign if he hopes to rise in the draft.

Rotoworld:

NFL Media analyst Chad Reuter noted that Richmond senior WR Reggie Diggs "snag the pass" with his height and leaping ability.

Diggs checks in at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds. In 2014 (his first full year as a starter), the senior caught 85 balls for 1,157 yards and seven touchdowns. Reuter allowed that Diggs might not always separate from his defender, but has the size to make difficult catches in coverage even when he doesn't bust open. "If he uses his frame to beat corners down the sideline again this season and performs well during an all-star game in January, he should earn the respect of coaches and scouts alike," wrote the draft analyst.

Rotoworld:

Ole Miss co-offensive coordinator Dan Werner said that junior RB Akeem Judd is "a physical guy [who] we need."

Judd was a four-star recruit out of high school and named the No. 1 JUCO running back by Rivals prior to joining the Rebels. The junior redshirted last season due to a confluence of factors, including a toe injury and some transitional issues. The Ole Miss coaching staff has been incredibly complementary of the 5-foot-11, 222-pound junior this summer, with head coach Hugh Freeze saying, "I like him. I think he'll do some really good things for us. I think he has a bright future."

Rotoworld:

Duke graduate TE Braxton Deaver is "one of the better receiving tight ends in the country" when he's healthy, wrote NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter.

Alas, 2013 is the only real healthy season that Deaver's recorded at the college level. During that campaign, he earned a third-team All-ACC selection on the strength of 46 catches, 600 receiving yards and four scores. Everything around that's been darkness. In 2012, the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder was lost for the year after suffering a torn ACL in the winter and a fractured patella in the summer. In 2014, he suffered another torn ACL. When healthy, his best attributes are his soft hands and ability to accelerate on seam routes, but in the summer of 2014, CBS Sports analyst Derek Stephens wrote that Deaver has issues in blocking and lacks the athleticism you'd like to see in an NFL tight end. A healthy 2015 season is almost certainly a must if he wants a chance to crack the backside of the draft.

In its latest Heisman odds, sportsbook Bovada has ranked TCU redshirt senior QB Trevone Boykin as co-favorite with Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott.

Both Boykin and Elliott are listed as 5/1 favorites by the sportsbook, with J.T. Barrett (9/1), Nick Chubb (12/1) and Leonard Fournette (12/1) rounding out the current Top-5. There's no denying that the Horned Frogs' redshirt senior gunslinger is an athletic freak, having thrown for 3,714 yards and 30 touchdowns last season while rushing for 642 yards and eight scores. It's important to keep in mind that Boykin remains a work-in-progress, though. That might lead to a Heisman showing, but he still has work to do as a passer.

Ohio State graduate WR Braxton Miller "remains one of the best athletes in the college game" despite his position change, wrote NFL Media analyst Chase Goodbread.

The draft analysts at NFL.com are counting down the Top-20 players in college football and Miller slotted in at No. 15. Bucky Brooks called him the "most explosive player in college football with the ball in his hands." It's easy to remember Miller's spectacular offensive showings that led to the former quarterback being named Big 10 Player of the Year twice, but he hasn't played a snap since 2013. Perhaps the most interesting comment any of the NFL.com experts made came from Gil Brandt, who tweeted that given his build, the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder's best position in the NFL might be running back.

Rotoworld:

Arizona senior WR David Richards is "slightly underrated" in the eyes of TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.

Pauline likes the senior's size (6-foot-4, 213 pounds) and his hands. As to why Richards might not receive the attention he deserves, the draft analyst pointed out that he "gets lost in the shuffle of Arizona’s receiver rotation." While Pauline doesn't see him getting drafted at this point, he noted that Richards could make a roster as an undrafted free agent. Last season, he caught 23 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown.

Rotoworld:

Scouts see Arizona State senior D.J. Foster as "a late round pick, while others feel he’s mid round talent," TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline notes.

"Some scouts consider D.J. Foster a late round pick while others feel he’s mid round talent. I agree with the latter. Foster is a skilled ball handler with an elusive style that can help a team in a variety of ways, which may be the problem. Many are split on his best position at the next level; running back or receiver," Pauline wrote. The 5-foot-11, 203-pounder was utilized in both the pass and run game by the Sun Devils, rushing for 1,081 yards and hauling in 62 receptions for 688 receiving yards. After spending his first three seasons at running back, Foster has been moved to receiver full-time for 2015. However, expect Arizona State to take advantage of his versatility this season.

UCLA junior WR Devin Fuller has been moved from the slot to the outside in the hopes of maximizing his big-play ability.

Fuller recorded 457 yards after the catch last season, which was even greater than his receiving total. The reason? Screen passes behind the line of scrimmage. "He's going to be a guy you'll see in a lot of different spots" offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone said. It is difficult to know what UCLA's offense will look like with a new quarterback at the helm, but HC Jim Mora Jr. loves to mix screens with vertical shots.

UCLA junior WR Thomas Duarte impressed in goal line situations during practice on Tuesday, making two nice touchdown catches.

Duarte started seven of the Bruins' games last season, catching 28 passes for 540 yards and four touchdowns. His YPC average of 19.29 yards ranked 15th in the country. A former four-star recruit, he figures to be a big part of the Bruin offense this season as they look to play with more consistency.

Rotoworld:

Devon Cajuste - WR - Cardinal

Standford redshirt senior WR Devon Cajuste "plays spotty football" despite "outstanding measurables," according to TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.

"Cajuste looks dominant during some games then is a non factor in others," wrote Pauline. The draft expert was quick to point out that at least some of this is due to a lack of talent at the quarterback position since Andrew Luck departed for NFL immortality, but he doesn't lay all the blame at the feet of Kevin Hogan. The 6-foot-4, 228-pound receiver caught 34 balls for 557 yards and six touchdowns in 2014. CBS Sports analyst Rob Rang voiced similar concerns in early August, questioning whether Cajuste has the speed to separate from defenders.

Rotoworld:

Tyler Higbee - TE - Hilltoppers

Western Kentucky senior TE Tyler Higbee boasts a nice blend of "height, agility, and route-running skills," observes NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter.

Western Kentucky has turned into an underrated source of NFL tight ends, sending Jack Doyle to the next level via a 2013 draft slot and Mitchell Henry in camp with the Packers this summer. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Higbee "could be as good as either of them, as the converted receiver continues to add weight to his frame," Reuter wrote. "Given the chance to show his stuff against Marshall last season, Higbee made six catches for 99 yards and three scores."

Rotoworld:

Jonathan Williams - RB - Razorbacks

Arkansas senior RB Jonathan Williams said that he will "most likely" leave school for the 2016 NFL Draft.

Williams is expected to miss the 2015 collegiate season with a left foot injury. He could still theoretically take a redshirt and return to the Razorbacks next season, but this does not seem a probable path for the 6-foot, 223-pound senior. Williams opted not to split for the draft last season, when he was projected as a possible third-round pick. It's unlikely that he suits up at any point over the next four months, but the senior tried to put on an optimistic face, saying "I'm still definitely 100 percent [part of Arkansas' team], so later in the season if I'm fully cleared and I feel good about being able to play and being healthy, I'll definitely try to play."

Rotoworld:

Austin Hooper - TE - Cardinal

NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter wrote that Stanford junior TE Austin Hooper could "stretch defenses regularly for quarterback Kevin Hogan this fall."

"Yet another excellent tight end is growing up on The Farm," noted Reuter. The 6-foot-4, 249-pounder hauled in 40 passes on 56 targets--totaling 499 yards and two touchdowns--last season. In late June, NFL.com's Lance Zierlein praised Hooper's "quick release off the line of scrimmage" as well as his "long strides [which] create separation in his routes." Zierlein compared him to former Cardinal TE Coby Fleener.

Alton Howard - WR - Volunteers

Tennessee junior WR Alton Howard has been suspended for the team's season-opener due to an unspecified violation of team rules.

While HC Butch Jones didn't delve into specifics, he indicated that Howard's violation of team rules occurred several months ago. "This isn't something that just occurred," said the coach, adding that the infraction "dates back many months." Nicknamed "Pig," Howard has been the Volunteers' leading receiver in each of the last two seasons. The 5-foot-9, 178-pound junior hauled in 54 passes for 618 yards and a touchdown last season. With Howard down for the opener, the Tennessee receiving corp looks incredibly thin, as Jason Croom and Vincent Perry will be undergoing knee scopes on Friday and it has yet to be determined when they'll return.

Rotoworld:

Rashard Higgins - WR - Rams

"Combining drops with a slight build could be an issue" for Colorado State junior WR Rashard Higgins' draft stock, NFL Media's Lance Zierlein observes.

"Almost 54 percent of Higgins' total receiving yards came after the catch, which is not typical of how an NFL season will go for a wide receiver. More importantly, Higgins has 17 drops over his last two seasons, with several coming as focus drops," Zierlein wrote. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound Higgins had a monster season in 2014, leading the nation with 1,750 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns, hauling in 96 passes, averaging 18.2 yards per reception.

Rotoworld:

Nelson Spruce - WR - Buffaloes

Colorado redshirt senior WR Nelson Spruce "wasn't credited with a single drop over 160 targets," according to NFL Media's Lance Zierlein.

]"Colorado's Nelson Spruce didn't excite me on tape, so I was interested to see what the data looked like -- it confirmed the eyeball test. Spruce showed steady hands and wasn't credited with a single drop over 160 targets, but he averaged just 7.2 yards at the catch point with 4.1 yards coming after the catch. That 4.1 YAC number is extremely low for an underneath receiver in the college game," Zierlein writes. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Spruce broke school records last season in Paul Richardson's absence. The reliable possession receiver racked up 106 receptions for 1,198 receiving yards, with 12 scores, earning Second Team All-Pac-12 honors.

D'haquille Williams - WR - Tigers

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein notes that "82.2 percent" of Auburn senior WR Duke Williams' catches went for first downs.

"Auburn's D'haquille "Duke" Williams combines strong hands with a great understanding of how to use his body to post defenders up and keep them in check. Williams' drop rate was just 4.3 percent, which is a solid number, but what is more impressive is that 82.2 percent of his catches went for first downs," Zierlein wrote. The 6-foot-2, 224-pound Williams recorded 45 receptions for 730 yards, with five touchdowns in only 10 games of play last year.

Sterling Shepard - WR - Sooners

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein believes Oklahoma senior WR Sterling Shepard has one of the "premier set of hands in college football."

"The premier set of hands in college football belong to Oklahoma's Sterling Shepard. Shepard has dropped just four passes on 225 targets over his three seasons, including only one drop over his last 162 targets," Zierlein wrote. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Biletnikoff semifinalist hauled in 51 receptions for 970 yards and five touchdowns in 2014, although missing more than half the year with a groin injury. Zielrein believes Shepard's "soft hands, elite focus and ability to get open will make him a favorite of NFL scouts."

Rotoworld:

Mike Williams - WR - Tigers

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein recently spoke with one NFL "personnel man" who questioned Clemson junior WR Mike Williams' downfield speed.

As Zierlein writes, Williams caught 26 percent of his passes 25-plus yards downfield last season despite those concerns. Williams really shines on the outside with slants, vertical routes and then working comebacks off of that downfield pressure. We would question Williams' after catch ability before questioning his vertical speed, if the goal was to find flaws in Williams' game.

Scouts feel Cal junior QB Jared Goff "has franchise potential" at the next level, according to TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline.

"Several west coast scouts have told me while they like Cody Kessler of USC they feel Jared Goff has franchise potential. And though I like Goff, Im not ready to anoint him to that level just yet," Pauline wrote. Last season, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Goff passed for for 3,973 yards with a 35/7 TD/INT ratio on a 62-percent completion percentage. In Goff's time at Cal, he's thrown for 7,481 yards, with 53 passing touchdowns.

Jared Goff - QB - Golden Bears

Cal junior QB Jared Goff said that the possibility of playing in the NFL is "not in [his] head right now."

Said Goff, "I want to win games this year and let everything else like [the NFL Draft] take care of itself when this is all over." The 6-foot-4, 205-pound junior sits atop the quarterback rankings of ESPN draft analysts Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr.. Earlier this month, TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline wrote that scouts believed that Goff has "franchise potential." The gunslinger posted some gaudy numbers last season, completing 62% of his passes for 3,973 yards and a 35/7 TD/INT ratio. Head coach Sonny Dykes, who also coached Packers star Aaron Rogers, said "I certainly think he has a very bright future with us and a very bright future when hes done playing at Cal."

Carson Wentz - QB - Bison

North Dakota State senior QB Carson Wentz completed 16-of-28 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 38-35 loss to Montana.

In addition to the two scores through the air, Wentz also rushed 13 times for 70 yards and two touchdowns. He hooked up with Chase Morlock on a 27-yarder in the first quarter, then hit the end zone twice on his own in the second (from 19 yards out and 11 yards out) before throwing a 10-yard TD to Zach Vraa. The 6-foot-6, 231-pound senior has impressed draft experts with his frame and general physical ability, with ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. ranking him as the No. 3 senior quarterback prospect over the summer. He passed for 3,111 yards and held a 25/10 TD/INT ratio last season.

Rotoworld:

Jamaal Jones - WR - Grizzlies

During Montana's 38-35 win over North Dakota State on Saturday, CBS Sports draft analyst Dane Brugler tweeted that Montana senior WR Jamaal Jones "attacks the ball w/ strong hands and body control."

Jones caught eight passes for 119 yards and a touchdown in Montana's dramatic win, which kicked off the unofficial start of the college football season. Brugler tweeted that the 6-foot-1, 191-pound senior--he's the team's top NFL prospect--was "impressive." Montana's had a history of pumping out draft talent. Since 2000, the school has had more players (10) plucked for the next level than any other non-FBS school. Last season, Jones made 67 catches for 1,044 yards and eight scores.

Rotoworld:

Tyler Boyd - WR - Panthers

NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote that Pittsburgh junior WR Tyler Boyd "won't post the same numbers Larry Fitzgerald did while at Pitt, but his talent is in Fitzgerald's zip code."

"Boyd can go up and compete for the the 50/50 throws as well as anyone out there, but he needs to show maturity and leadership qualities," wrote Zierlein. While the draft expert didn't explicitly mention Boyd's mid-June DUI arrest, it's likely what he means when he writes that he wants to see more maturity from the 6-foot-2, 190-pound star. On the level of talent, there are no questions. Zierlein's fellow NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah labeled him the "most complete wide receiver in the country" due to his ability to run smooth routes and make things happen after the catch. He caught 78 balls for 1,261 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
