[Dynasty] 2017 Draft Prospects (1 Viewer)

Stanford offensive coordinator Mike Bloomgren specifically mentioned the Panthers as a scheme fit for RB Christian McCaffrey because of their trips personnel.

The Panthers, picking No. 8, have been heavily linked to McCaffrey over the past month-plus. Bloomgren, a former NFL assistant, said McCaffrey will fit in the modern NFL because "teams want to run 21 personnel (two running backs, one tight end) and then split Christian out wide and run 3x1 trips (three receivers stacked on one side of the field)." He further deemed some of criticisms McCaffrey has received "ridiculous," emphatically stating that McCaffrey excels between the tackles, is a good pass protector and will be a three-down back in the NFL. "It’s like, ‘Have you ever seen us play?’ We run power," Bloomgren said. We couldn't have said it any better.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that Browns HC Hue Jackson and his staff are "all-in" on Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett at No. 1, but the front office is leaning towards UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky and owner Jimmy Haslam "badly wants a QB."

Like the opening of baseball and the return of warm weather, April brings its annual Cleveland power struggle related to the NFL Draft. A couple years back, that yearly ritual reportedly led to Haslam leading the charge to trade up to draft Johnny Manziel. We think Garrett will ultimately be the No. 1 pick. Recent reports had Cleveland exploring trade possibilities to move from No. 12 back into the top-10 with an eye on Trubisky, though, so perhaps both divisions within the Cleveland organization will exit Day 1 happy.

To me this draft seems way off the mark for the Steelers:

Reuter: 1 Josh Jones S, 2 Carl Lawson, 3 Tanoh Kpassagnon, 3 Josh Reynolds, 4 Rasul Douglas, 5 Ejuan Price, 6 Chris Carson RB, 7 Anthony Walker ILB

I like the 2nd and 4th picks, Lawson and Reynolds, but not a fan of the others.

Better based on his draft: 1 Jabrill Peppers S/CB, 2 Adam Shaheen TE, 3 Derek Rivers OLB (assume he falls 1 more spot), 3 Desmond King CB/S, 4 Brad Kaaya QB, 5 Jamaal Williams RB, 6 Joe Mathis OLB, 7 Amba Etta-Tawo.

1, a jack of all trades, a weapon in the secondary who can funnel plays back into the middle of the line as an in the box defender. 2, very solid TE prospect, raw. 3a, talented pass rusher who falls due to small school stigma. 3b, another piece in the secondary to shore things up, great value. 4, needed QB depth, once thought of as a possible 1st overall pick. 5, very solid RB, "could be this year's jordan howard" (a BS phrase said multiple times by analysts, he's a solid RB backup).  6, an excellent pass rusher with issues staying healthy. 7, a solid WR who struggled in MD, but as a MD fan I know their QB play has been crap, he played well with Syracuse and is just getting better.

 
NFL Network's Mike Mayock predicts that Virginia Tech QB Jerod Evans will not get drafted.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Evans led Virginia Tech to the ACC championship game in his first season as starter in 2016 and then stunned the NFL draft community by declaring for the pros in January with one season of eligibility remaining. He's got a great frame and good athleticism working in his favor, along with a solid arm, but is extremely raw and struggles with accuracy and decision making.

One scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that NC State RB Matthew Dayes is "more of a specialty guy."

"He’s a one-cut speed guy. He tries to run hard but he doesn’t have any (expletive) behind him. He does have some receiving skills," said the scout. Another evaluator told the Journal-Sentinel that the 5-foot-9, 205-pound Dayes "maximizes his talent but he’s not a very talented guy." The Day 3 hopeful earned second-team All-ACC designation this past season after rushing for 1,166 yards and 10 touchdowns.

First, seriously?  

Secondly, I'll tell you what you don't say if you have even an ounce of self-awareness.  How about this for a start:

“Name a college quarterback who goes into the game-plan meetings on Monday and throws his notes at the coaches,” Kizer said. “No one else game plans the way I do. No one else prepares the way I do. No one else knows football the way I do. No one else is as big as I am. No one else is as powerful a runner as I am. Pat Mahomes might throw the ball 80 yards and I can only throw the ball 72, but I guarantee he can’t throw an out route the way I can.

“No one else can do what I can do. And I’ve truly figured out in this (draft) process, if I can maximize all my potential in every aspect of the game – this is bold – I do have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play. Imagine taking (Tom) Brady’s intellect and Brady’s preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton’s body. Why can’t I be the greatest? The only thing stopping me from it is me. That’s what’s driving me now.”

 
An NFL scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Clemson RB Wayne Gallman is "generic" and "herky-jerky."

"Little bit of strength. Runs hard, but limited. Caught the ball well at pro day but I don’t think he’s a third-down back," said another scout. A third evaluator was more openly optimistic about Gallman's pro potential, telling the Journal-Sentinel that the 6-foot, 215-pounder is a "[r]angy, leggy runner," one who is "[t]ough" and possesses "good vision." Pro Football Focus compares Gallman to Green Bay Packers RB James Stark due to both players' "very good ability to string together cuts once they get downfield." A late Day 2 or early Day 3 selection is likely in the cards for the dependable Clemson runner.

NFL scout who spoke with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel said that South Florida RB Marlon Mack "runs away from contact."
"Not a fan," the scout said. "I think he runs out of bounds." Another scout deemed the 5-foot-11, 212-pounder to be "kind of a third-downish back." One more scouting opinion to pass along on Mack -- an evaluator told the Journal-Sentinel, "It’s good he was in the spread offense. When he plays in the big-boy league and has to run between the tackles I don’t know how effective he’s going to be." These quotes are all dubious enough of Mack's pro potential, but one college running backs coach said earlier during the evaluating process that the South Florida standout "definitely has the talent to be a big-time guy." Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline does not see the Mack Attack being drafted within the first four rounds in his most recent mock draft, but he figures to hear his name called on some point during Day 3 festivities next Saturday.

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein likens UNC RB T.J. Logan to Akeem Hunt.
Logan was stuck behind Elijah Hood for much of his time in Chapel Hill, but he showed explosion when given an opportunity last season. In 120 carries, he ran for 675 yards and seven touchowns while posting a 29-244-3 line receiving. He also took two balls to the house on kick returns. At the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Logan ran the forty in 4.37 seconds. "Sleek athlete with excellent short area burst and the finishing speed to hit home runs in all three phases if the opportunity is right," Zierlein wrote. "Logan will likely be considered flex player on the roster who can compete for duties as a kick returner and third down back."

Washington's John Ross garnered 6-of-16 first-place votes from NFL scouts polled on this year's top wide receiver prospect.
He got more first-place votes than Western Michigan's Corey Davis (5 1/2) and Clemson's Mike Williams (4 1/2), although Davis emerged as the No. 1 "points" getter in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's poll, which used scouts' rankings and not just first-place votes. The points system placed East Carolina's Zay Jones at a distant fourth in this year's wideout class, and USC's JuJu Smith-Schuster at fifth. Eastern Washington's Cooper Kupp finished sixth, Ohio State's Curtis Samuel seventh, and Texas A&M's Josh Reynolds came in eighth. "It's the worst wide receiver class I've seen in a long time," said one NFC executive.
 
 
An executive saying it's the worst wide receiver class I've seen in a long time is a really bad sign.  I wonder how many other NFL execs feel the same way?

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein comps Clemson TE Jordan Leggett to Kellen Davis.

The 6-foot-5, 258-pounder had 46 receptions for 736 yards and seven touchdowns for the national champs last season. His receiving chops are strong, and he compliments them with a great size/speed combination, but Leggett is a disinterested blocker. "Has elite size for the position, but his motor and effort leave a lot to be desired," Zierlein wrote. "Despite his size, might not have the attitude necessary to be an in-line blocker on the NFL level. Tape shows a route-runner who could struggle to uncover against quality man coverage." As for Pro Football Focus, they liken Leggett to Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers, writing: "Short of playing a one-dimensional receiving role, any chance of Jordan’s chances of a prolonged NFL career depend entirely around revamping his overall blocking technique."

blanket statements like this bother me. However I don't like Mike Williams....Corey Davis is the real deal. I don't like the John Ross types...unless they land with a bress/brady etc....

After those top 3wr this class does lack the wow factor although I have been a JuJu fan for awhile now. and Godwin should be a solid pro.

Get the feeling that the back half of round1 in dyno rookie drafts will have people taking the TEs thus the Foremans and WR outside the top3 should slide into value spots.
