Those of you in leagues with a toliet bowl for the non playoff teams, what is your prize? More importantly, what do you prefer the prize to be for winning the Toliet Bowl?

In the HyperActive leagues, we award a supplemental rookie pick (1.13). I think this system works well, but I am not sure it is a deterrent to late season tanking.

Excellent topic and one I've been pondering as I'm am thinking about changing my format.

Currently I adjust the winners draft order to the first pick in every round. However, many people trade away their firsts so they end up just promoting someone else's pick to 1.1.

Thus I'm thinking about changing my leagues to award an additional 1.13 pick to the winner.

We have toilet bowl a loser "prize". Basically, it's a reverse playoff for the teams that don't make the "real" playoffs. Losers advance, winners are done.

The last game of the non-playoff bracket is the Toilet Bowl (featuring the two losing teams from the previous round). The loser of the Toilet Bowl has to bring adult beverages to next year's draft.

Note: The results have NO bearing on draft picks - those are locked based on the bottom of week 13 standings (i.e. the "real" playoff teams have their picks assigned based on their playoff finish - like the real NFL. The teams that don't make the playoffs are reverse order of standings based on week 13). I've never seen a team tank in this league, as most teams are in it up until week 12, sometimes almost all up until the final week, fighting for the last playoff spot.

In one league the winner gets his dues paid in full for the following season. Not an incentive in itself to stop any late season tanking (although that hasn't been an issue) but does allow the teams who just missed the playoffs to have a shot at winning something. I think I would prefer an extra draft pick if I was given that option.

1st overal (however i play in keepers, not dynasty)

It's a great way to keep the league competitive, and ensure that less teams get cheap wins at the end of the season due to apathetic lineup management etc.

Most leagues lottery the picks anyway. Why not allow those lottery teams to compete for the brass ring of a 1st round pick. only done this one year so far, but it MASSIVELY increased league participation, roster mgmt etc by the 'out of the money' teams. Plus it sucks to miss the playoffs, makes it nice to have a reason to still get excited for wks 14-16/17 (18-20?)

fwiw I won said league, so I was out of the running entirely.

one caveat: tweak that we did, was that week 1 playoffs included the 4 non playoff teams (10 team league 1/2 week 14 bye). in a week 14 battle. the winners of those matches faced the losers of the week 14 playoff matches in week 15. with the winner of those games meeting in the battle for the first pick bowl. (eventually won by the team that finished the year 8/10 (4-9) over the team that finished the year 4/10 (8-5) by 32 pts. Not only that but the TB teams in many cases put up better #'s than the playoff teams, in large part due to their efforts to finish strong rather than fade into apathy. It was also felt (rightly so IMHO) that in the past teams had purposefully been neglecting their lineups so that they would have more 'ping pong balls' in the draft lottery.

I thought about this as well, my only concern was trying to make sure the toliet bowl prize wasnt too close to the payout the 3rd place playoff team got.

We get the winner rolls of toilet paper (a big bag from Sam's club or BJ's). It doesn't cost a lot and always gets a laugh. And who doesn't use toilet paper????

ETA: TB is only for teams 9-12, teams 5-8 get money if they win their bracket

That isn't really an issue IMO. If you give someone a choice - would they rather be in the playoffs or compete for the toilet bowl prize, just about everyone would be prefer being the playoffs. In my league the TB winner does get more than 3rd place, but no one has complained about it (and it is not actual cash that is paid out, just free admission next season).

Bottom 4 teams in our league play for an additional pick slotted at the beginning of round 1 (before the first pick assigned based on record).

The incentive to win it is fierce. Especially for the worst team, since it essentially gives them pick 1 and 2 if they win it.

This also resolves the problem of a traded pick becoming the 1st overall. This pick can't be traded until it is won, obviously.

we make the winner of the toilet bowl bring beer to next years draft.

i figure that the 7 and 8 seed (in a 12 team league) have the best chance to win the toilet bowl, so its that extra little kick in the n*ts for missing the playoffs
